Um, except that a.-release for OS X gives you more useful stuff. Really, the difference between 10.1 and 10.2 was big, far more than 2000 and XP. From what I've seen/read, 10.3 is going to be more than M$ promises to have 2005. Apple is just sticking to the X/10 because of marketing reasons.
Really, considering what you get, the $100+ may well be worth it. If it isn't, then fine, you can keep running your version of 10.n and Apple will still make updates.
Well, read The Hunt for Red October for another reason. Submarines hate, and I mean hate making noise. I would imagine that anything with x86 would be tantamount to having a mariachi band playing in the room.
Yes, Lintel/Wintel machines can be designed to be quiet, but those off-the-rack XServes are probably quieter, at least in a bang-for-the-buck kind of comparison. (Now a cluster of Cubes,...)
Actually, I have no qualms about my local reseller (The Mac Experience). They've bent over backwards to help me out, and I recommend that people make purchases there instead of The Apple Store.
This isn't entirely odd. Theories may have changed since I was in grad school ten years ago, but back then it was thought that the first generation of stars would produce an abundance of massive, quick-dying, supernova-candidate stars. (This is because only H, He, and a bit of Li existed; long story.) This is where you get things like Fe, Si, etc, forming. Also, the deaths of the two stars in the center of the stellar system may have "enriched" the planet.
The real problem is that Jacques Chirac has said he will veto any Apple Music Store in Europe. However, Jobs has threatened to slap David Hasslehoff, so Germany is lining up.
... current suppliers are reporting deminished supplies of PowerMac G4's with resupply dates ranging from late June to early July.
Ding! Veteran Mac watcher know that this is a sure-fire indication that tower replacements are on the way. Since Jobs returned and forced Apple to get tighter inventory controls, this sort of thing has always preceded a new model announcement.
Of course, there are no guarantees that the new models have 970s in them, but I'd be dashed surprised if they didn't.
1. Spread rumors.
2. Get mentioned at Slashdot.
3. Everyone jeers and boos.
4. ???
5. Loss:-(
Loss? Apple has been posting underwhelming but definite profits (almost) without fail for every quarter in the last three years. Name five other companies that have done that. On second thought, given the economic landscape, those profits are not really underwhelming. Still, it was a useful post. Thank you for attempting to add to the Apple Death Knell Counter. Given the likes of John Dvorak as your potential company on that list, your parents must be very proud.
The simple truth is that Apple matters. There are things they innovate (like Quicktime, the Newton, and Firewire, etc etc etc) that are ahead of their time. They also can take existing markets and make something far and away better than what is there (iPod being the most recent example). What's more, they can take someone else's technology and make it acceptable (USB, anyone?) And they also can produce things that change the way you think about 'X'. In this latter category I'd put the GUI, Quicktime, and most recently the Music Store. I have completely changed the way I look at music, thanks to the iTMS and my iPod.
As long as they keep this up, and I don't see why they can't, they will matter and will draw people who want to speculate about the latest and greatest.
I don't know that the 970 in the Powerbook will happen this soon. I recall a discussion on The Mac Observer about the towers being Apple's best money-makers. They have the highest margins, in terms of dollars and in percentage, of Apple's computer hardware. Tower sales have been lagging for a few years, so don't be surprised if there is a big push to sell the towers, particularly in the sense of "The 970 is available, but not in the consumer products and only in our desktop".
Also, Quark has just announced that it is shipping for OS X any day now. Lack of a native version of Quark, along with a sluggish market in publishing, has kept a lot of the tower buyers (ie print shops, etc) from upgrading. Quark is ready to ship, and publishing seems to be on its way to recovery. Those are two big pushes on the demand side.
Also, it would seem silly to have the 970 in the towers and not in the XServe, so expect them there as well; that would further reduce the supply side even further. In fact, I suspect that the 970 in the XServe might drive XServe sales higher, thus reducing the pool of 970s available for laptops.
A 970 Powerbook will be here, just don't expect it within the next couple-three months.
Some of the wealthiest and the biggest names: Gates, Allen, Ellison, Dell,... There was also a guy named Micheal Jordan who seems to have done alright financially.
I used to work with chickens; I was a cock-teaser at RoosterRama. I used to enrage the bantams before the big bout. That's not an easy job, ask Pedro here.
They do have exclusive tracks, and I remember some of them being live cuts. However, I don't know that the labels and bands would be too happy with bootlegs, and Apple wants to keep them happy.
You know, that has worked *SO* well in Cuba. What a worker's paradise! I tell you what, we'll send you there in exchange for some boat people who want to earn their keep. I'll even give Castro a first round draft pick, an order of fries, and the rights to Micheal Moore.

Sure it does! It solves the problem "how do I really hork off those wankers over there?"
(Obvious, yes, but it had to be said.)

I'm married and rather silly, but I'd be interested in buying it. How much?
I've used SGIs and I own a Mac, and I love my Mac, but please try to keep this discussion restricted to worlds where the sky is blue.
Thank you, President Clinton.
(A cheap shot, I know, but I couldn't resist.)
It is odd, but not completely unexpected.
You must be kidding! I am staggered by this; who would have thought. Why, you'll be saying Hitler was a racist, next.

(Sure, mod me down, like I care.)
I know I would. *smacks lips* Delicious! Tastes like a cross between bald eagle and spotted owl.
Nothing worthwhile happens overnight.
