Look, I sympathize, but you can hardly blame Apple (or America) for the exchange rate, for VAT, and for other nations' import tarriffs.
And this works both ways, you know. Our idiotic government won't let us have broadcast HDTV until 2006, amost 20 years after it was first invented... in Indianapolis!
My iMac looks fine on my desk, but it's one I restored. Genuine mahogany with 'antique-looking' iron hardware and a leather top that was made/installed by a guy here in town. It cost a few sheckles, but boy, for all the time I spend at the desk, is it ever worth it!
Sometimes you need to pay for quality... but why do I need to say that on the Apple forum? Oh, right, slashdot. Nevermind.
Good point. Also, some tracks are "album only", but they ar few and far between, and actually it usually makes sense.
Example: there is a classic Firesign Theater album called "Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers" that I plan to buy. It is "album-only" for $9.99, but there are only two tracks on the album, "This Side" and "That Side". So even though it's not REALLY $.99 per track, I have no problem paying the $9.99 for the album. It's certainly worth it.
Dang, son, where do you live? Here in Indianapolis, hardly the center of the universe, I can hear those, plus two alternative, two Mexican stations, an "adult alternative" (kinda like WXRT in Chicago but without the 'my aren't we cool' smarm), rap, R&B, news/talk, sports (two), classical, two German-language shows, and a lot of home-grown talk/comedy shows. Ten years ago we had country, classic rock, pop, and one news/talk station with nearly the same number of stations. Say what you want about ClearChannel, Infinity, Emmis, etc, they've made radio richer in the mid-sized town. While that might not be everything in the world, it's a dashed sight more than we used to have.
(Although I'd like to find the person who decided that western swing is no longer country music and punch him/her in the mouth.)
maybe i'm wrong basing investment decisions on personality, but its the only stock I own I have not lost money on in the past several years.
No, you're not wrong. Character counts; it's not everything, but it compensates for a lot. People deny it, and a lot of popular opinion is against the idea. However, the longer I live, the more I see that character counts.
In other news, government bureaucrats are found to be less productive than their business counterparts, and a new study indicates that politicians are unethical.
Oh, and this just in, the New York Times (unofficial slogan: yadda yadda yadda) is reporting that life is inherently unfair. Film at 11.
(Actually, I kinda doubt the NYT would report that, though The Washington Times might.)
The Bob & Tom [bobandtom.com] Show is hardly local.... unless you live in Indy.
Yeah Toast!
And I do! I've been listenining to Bob and Tom so long I remember when Kristi left & came back, when Heywood Banks first showed up, and when Chick was doing afternoon drive with Dog. I also have their lp releases.
And maybe it's just me, but their jokes making local references are the funniest. I remember Herm Johnson rambling on about trees and saying 'Back in Toledo there was this fella named Dick Crumble who knew all about trees...'. I nearly drove into the ditch. (Dick Crum was the inspiration for Mr. Obvious, in case you didn't make the connection.)
While I like my XM radio and I like hearing great national shows (and I would include Bob and Tom in that), it's those inside jokes that I miss with national and homogenized radio. That's why I listen to WIBC on the drive home, because Dave Wilson's show is funny and Indy-oriented. YMMV, of course.
Dude! Don't dis the Boon's Farm... I actually like that stuff. Isn't sterno lighter fluid or camping alcohol or something like that?
During Prohibition, some people would strain Sterno through a handkerchief and drink it. (The Sterno, that is, not the handkerchief.) It was known as "Canned Heat". Blues musician Tommy Johnson got hooked on it and had a song about it called "Canned Heat Blues"... whence came a really bad sixties band's name.
perhaps we should wait until MacWorld Expo to set straight the rumors, and see if perhap a new/great product will be introduced in its place, or if this will infact happen at all.
Look, if you're going to be reasonable, you can just leave Slashdot right now...
When iMacs are outlawed, only outlaws will have iMacs.
Now I know more than ever why I always like Bugs Bunny and Foghorn Leghorn better than Ricky Rat... although Bugs' now being associated with AOL and Ted Turner has made him lose his lustre.

Well, see, it's like this. Al Gore hired his old friend Bill Daley ...

Yeah, create quality, user-friendly products.
(Oh wait, is that bashing? It is? Good, so long as one knows ...)
*ahem*. Apparently you've not seen the Ballmer video.
Um, so, does the phrase "Lighten up, Francis" mean anything to you?
Seriously, this has to be one of the most useless and uninteresting items to appear on Slashdot in the recent past.
DANG! That's against some serious competition.
What, there's no "Obvious" moderation option? Hm.
Yes, this is exactly what they are doing, if "killing with extreme prejudice" falls under the "serious impact" category.
Well, it's spelled "Chimera", but it's pronounced "Throatwarbler Mangrove".

Uh, that's his Trim Jeans jogging sweats. (Too many moon pies, methinks.)
What, Oscar Wilde was a beta tester?

Not if they're Red Swingline Staplers ...
Older machines can't run OS X, and perl allows you to write command-line-like scripts, sorta, on a Mac.
