I am horrified to hear that Enterprise will be changed. I thought one of the strong points of the show was that it was similar to the original series. Although it does have that stupid "temporal cold war" ongoing plot line, most of the episodes are autonomous. It also shows the future as being hopeful and wonderous. It has been good sci-fi so far. I know that most people who are Trekkies nowadays don't care about such things. All they care about are the Borg, interstellar war, professional wrestling type ongoing plot lines, etc. It seems sci-fi is doomed to become a second rate genre no better than romance novels for nerds.
We might be slow in America, but we get things done. We beat the British twice when they were one of the most powerful nations in the world and we were just an overgrown banana republic. We also bailed them out of two world wars. And American English is our language and different from British English. And hey, at least I'm not speaking with a Scottish accent.:P
I was checking out this dupe post and the advertisement was for Microsoft Visual Studio.Net. That's pretty evil. Then I got to thinking about advertising and it seems that I rarely notice those in-article advertisements. I usually only notice the top-of-page advertising. So there is something for the advertising department.
I wondered why my company was furiously upgrading all of its NT4 workstations. And I thought it was because they wanted to increase productivity by not having our systems crash every 5 minutes. Of course getting new systems with more than 64MB of memory has helped as well.
I know that Apple probably has good reason not to make the various beta releases of Safari available to the public, but I think they are missing out on a good marketing opportunity here. These Safari releases are keeping everyone interested, or they're keeping me interested anyway. Plus, people can see the new features as they are implemented and maybe once a favorite feature is added, emails about getting that feature will reduce.
NEWSFLASH - Record companies discover a way to determine who has pirated music over the past 5 years. Millions are billed, sometimes the bills are in the thousands of dollars. Various people whine and bitch about it, but they were stupid enough to download the stuff, so they are getting what they deserve.
The 4300 - current models aren't very different at all. They have the same chassis and components for the most part with only the motherboard being changed because of newer bus speeds and the like. In fact one board change did nothing but switch from having two metal heat sink clamps to one built in clamp and the lastest motherboard revision did nothing but incorporate integrated ethernet on each board. The next big change will be the floppyless systems, now that is innovation!:P
In this day and age of bootable CDs and USB keyboards and mice, the older ports and drives just aren't necessary. If you do have legacy software or equipment, then you should purchase new equipment according to your needs. And its not like they are taking away the floppies and not offering a choice. I am sure that you will be able to get one as an option. However, the typical user running WinXP with an internet connection simply doesn't need a floppy. Almost all computers come with a CD burner for larger files and small files can be emailed or ftp'd to another computer. Most files nowadays are too big for floppies anyway. I am now using an iBook so the point is moot in my case. Apple hasn't offered floppies as standard equipment for at least 4 years now and the Apple customers don't seem to mind too much. If I ever build another x86 type machine, I will probably skip the floppy because I just don't use it.
I mean sure, the plots of the stories are a bit thin sometimes and definitely rehashed, but the same could be said of TOS. I think Enterprise is great because it has that good chemistry between the characters. The characters are interesting and it is fun to see them learning and growing. It's not the plots that make good fiction (whether it be in books, television, or movies), it is the characters. I think that Enterprise will succeed if they stay away from Suliban temporal cold war references and just focus on the characters going boldly where no man has gone before.
My mother is a technology coordinator for the schools in my home town. She says that they throw millions of dollars at technology, but it does not do anyone any good. They do not teach children ABOUT the computers, they teach them WITH the computers. So really it is just a glorified chalkboard/workbook and often times is used as a babysitter. Personally, I think a good textbook beats a computer any day of the week. Additionally, the teachers are the same teachers I had 20 years ago, so they are not trained on how to use this technology. I think computers in schools are a waste of money and time.
My earliest memory was when I was one year old. I remember that there was a tornado and it was green outside and the trees were bent over. I remember that my mother had flipped the couch over and we got underneath it. I told my mother about this a few years ago and she couldn't believe that I remembered it because I was so young when it happened. I had thought that it was just my imagination, until my mom told me it was true. I have other memories that I don't know when they happened, but the tornado memory seems to be the earliest.
The purpose of taking away our gun rights is not to protect children, ourselves, potential burglers, etc. The government takes away our gun rights to protect themselves. The purpose of the second amendment to the US constitution was to guarantee that the People would be able to defend themselves against the government should that government get out of control. So little by little the government is taking away our gun rights and within 20 or 30 years they will come for the guns themselves. The US is about 2 steps away from being a dictatorship and no one realizes it.
Is it just me or do most of you out there seem to think that more and more people are using Apple laptops? Maybe it is because I just bought one, but it seems more and more people are using them and talking about them. And it seems mostly confined to laptops. For me, the Power Mac G4 is out of reach on price and I'm not thrilled about getting and all-in-one desktop computer. Anyway, it would be interesting to see how Apple's market share is changing in the laptop and desktop sectors.
It has been known for several years that there were catastrophic floods in Mars' past. Perhaps this is the explanation. Also, I believe I have seen studies that show that Mars could never have held a significant atmosphere because of its lack of a significant gravity field.
This sounds a lot like Pyschohistory from Isaac Asimov's Foundation novels. Predicting the future using models of how a large number of people behave. Do we give Isacc some credit?
Hey Shatner. TJ hooker ruled. Are there plans for a movie or another run of the show? Is it playing in sindication anywhere? How many horses do you have? Do you really keep them in a castle in Kentucky? What is you favorite food?
Through a steady stream of upgrades I have managed to avoid paying more that $100 for any version of Windows. So if it costs $45 per box then that's $55 profit. Also, I would assume that most of the Windows business is in OEM sales and I've heard figures as cheap as $50 for an OEM version bought in bulk.
As far as using Office and Windows to prop up the rest of their business, everyone knows that has been going on for a while now. The reason Microsoft hangs onto its monoply with such vigor is that without it, the company would collapse under its own weight. So they are almost forced to charge more money and gain more market share just to keep the company afloat. If they were to lose a significant portion of their business in Windows or Office, they would quickly lose profitablity and even $36 billion in cash reserves wouldn't last forever in such a large company.
Boredom... sheer boredom.

..but can it perform felatio like my other "massage therapist"

If you'd cut down on all those extra u's you're putting in color and favorite, maybe your printer will last longer.
Slashdot picked a hell of a time to give me mod points.. I think I'll mod everything -1 Troll
Is that "essense of evil" anything like the "Essense of Emeril?" I need to quit watching food network.

Thanks for moderating this down. Heaven forbid that someone post a comment critical of hypocrites.

Don't forget about $200 in shipping for the Dell computer. I think Apple figures in shipping, or they did for my iBook anyway.
