Why fight smart kids? Instead lets fight the constant dumbing down of the classroom. School needs to be challenging for kids or they will disengage.
There is no PC way to put it, but some kids are above and some are below average. You hurt both groups by trying to fit them into the same average class. What ends up happening is the class slows down to the pace of the below average students and you end up with more 'black holes' as you put it.
It's worse now though, because you end up having average kids who think they are above average and get slaughtered in college.
I had your same problem. I got A's and B's in high school and rarely did any homework at home and never studied. What I usually did was do the next days homework during the current class.
In math courses for example, the the teacher would take an hour explaining a simple match concept that should only take someone 5 minutes to get. I would just use this time to do the next days homework.
In Lit classes I could listen to class dicussions about books and make out enough of the plot to BS my way to a B.
This was all fine and good until I hit college. I struggled the first year until I learned how to study. It sucked because even though I had nearly a 4.0 my last 2 years (while taking all my 'hard' degree classes), I still only ended up with an overall GPA of 3.2.
Education is the best way to spent our tax dollars.
The last thing we need to do with the current public education system is spend more money on it. The public education system spends a lot of money on per student basis and the facts show that money != better public education.
Someone needs to step up and actually fix the system before spending anymore money on it. A good starting place would be classroom discipline.
Companies can pay employee whatever they want. That is why this memo is so bogus. If EA really cared they would have figured out long ago that working people 70 hours/week and only paying them the salary they were hired for to do 40 hours/week is something they shouldn't be doing.
They don't need to "reclasify" anyone to fix the issues. A salary based employee can be paid extra, or given more time off at the sole discretion of the company.
I did. Pulled my old CC records and sent them to the collection agency showing I paid the bill. The hospital basically said when I paid it wasn't the full amount so tough shit. I explained at the time of service I was told they wouldn't even give the service without paying in full first, again tough shit.
Eventually, I just got tired of dealing through a collection company(hospital kept saying out of their hands) b/c they didn't really care about anything but collecting. It became my problem that someone else screwed up along the way and eventually my time just isn't worth the $30.
I fought it as strongly as I could though out of principle and it went on for awhile. Problem is that they pretty much have you buy the balls b/c an open charge like that prevents you from purhasing big items on credit like a house or car.
Please read what I originally wrote. When service was rendered I was told I had to pay in full which I did with my credit card. I was even told I could not get service until I payed in full. The hospital had my complete information and I didn't changed addresses during the time.
If the hospital decided at a later date thaat I still owed them money it would've been nice if they let me know before sending me out to collections. When I called the hosptial trying to get some information, the girl on the line went to three different systems looking for my account. She even said billing has been messed up lately b/c of their system change they've been going through.
SO lets recap for the idiot above. I get a service and pay in full while there. Hospital decides at a later date I didn't pay in full (billing system error or whoever charged me messed up at the time). For whatever reason the hospital never informs me I still owed them money, and nearly a year later I find out because I'm in 3rd party collections. Explain to me how any of the above was my fault.
Pulling your own report once in awhile shouldn't affect your credit rating. If a company sees many lenders pulling your report it may show you as shopping around for a loan, which may show you're being denied by various lenders. That's the general f'd up logic.
I think the credit scoring system is messed up anyways. Any company can report you for being delinquent and screw up your rating. It then becomes your reponsibility to correct their mistake, which they don't get punished for. They should start fining companies that make mistakes and report credit issues about the wrong person or credit issues that are just inccorect(billing errors etc...)
I was sent to collections one time over a $30 doctor bill. I thought I paid in full when the service was received AND I never received an additional bill. Nearly a year later I get a 3rd party collection notice. I paid the $30(the 3rd party place didn't care that I thought I paid and the hospital wouldn't talk to me b/c they sent the issue 3rd party), but it's still on my credit report that I had a bill that was over 180 days delinquent. The crap that happened to me has to stop.
Why even buy the game then? I read about most of these issues before the game came out, and no matter how good or cool the game is I refuse to buy it(I won't pirate it either). The only way companies will change their policies is by people telling them with their wallets that they won't stand for it.
That's interesting. There was a show about Iraq on last night on the History channel. It explained that one of the main reasons the Baath party and thus Saddam were able to gain control was because of a very liberal (for the region) gov at the time before the Baath party took power. The liberal gov. was giving rights to women(property ownership, etc...) and the conservative Baath party disagreed and finally overthrew the gov.
So where else do you put a game console that is supposed to hook to your TV? Do I need to build a clean room data center just to play video games now?
Even xboxes/ps2 placed on an entertainment rack still get dusty. Every other device on my entertainment rack seems to work fine, why should a game device be any different?
They never were in my city either until the a bunch of old rich people got together with the old rich mayor and wrote an ordinance specifically banning reving your motorcycle. They didn't even put an actual noise level on the ordinance. If you rev your bike downtown they will write you a ticket.
The device (car stereo) is not the thing causing the problem, it's the jackass using it at 2am. Just call the cops and let them deal with it. Noise ordinance laws usually have pretty hefty fines ($400-$500), and if it's as loud as you say as often as you say it shouldn't take very long for them to get caught.
On a related note, they actually have a "no reving your motorcycle" law in the city I live near now. Cops love writing tickets to everyone on their choppers, heh.
I lust after a gadget that can disable those car stereos 'what got bump'.
With all of the modding stories I see on/. it surprises me that many/.ers dislike/make fun of people who mod their cars. It's been awhile since I put any large amounts of stereo equipment in someones car, but I always had a good time solving the custom problems that came up.
It always amuses me to watch one sub-culture make fun of another.
That's interesting. I wonder if at that age you can already see personality traits coming out. For example a buddy who I play hold 'em with regulary loves the action. He makes crazy calls and when he wins a tourney it's a huge deal(big calls, pretty loose). I, on the other, tend to play tight. I don't win in a big hand of glory, but more so of the slow methodical play.
Ripping CD's and shipping them across the inet for all to use I would agree with you is illegal (not piracy, but illegal).
Recording satellite radio to listen to later is akin to recording a football game off of satellite TV to watch later. Are you telling me that all the people who record shows either on the VCR, TIVO, or their computer to watch at a different time are stealing?

Zero is implying that there is a value there and that it is in fact the number zero. Null would imply that no value ever existed, zero or otherwise.
In all of my db designs I try to avoid nulls unless absolutely neccessary. A typical situation where nulls are unavoidable would be in an end date field( no end date as of yet). You also usually get nulls back when doing outer joins.
Remember though that null != 0 != ''. Null is the complete absence of a value.
if we made due without all of those fancy features a few years ago
Group scheduling is a key feature in todays corporate environment because it's different than it was a few years ago. Many people now work in distributed locations and are not always able to respond to a possible meeting request. Having their calendars searchable by anyone who may need to meet with them is a huge time saver.
I submit the many cases where hundreds of people planned on USENET, IRC, IM, or email.
It's possible and even easy to plan events this way, but what about a meeting where I need to see 5, 10, even 20 people at tomorrow? Joe might be travelling today, Jill is out sick, and Bob's inet is crapped out.
Isn't the goal of business to be fiscally efficient? Is there really a positive ROI for you to have Exchange in your office?
I would argue having shared calendars are fiscally efficient. Take the situation where you want to schedule 10 people to meet. It takes a lot less time to check their calandars than for you to contact each person individually or even group email and see who might or might not be busy.
all-knowing, infinitely powerful, and infinitely good
Heh, you brought up the the catch-22 in organized religion. If God is all of those things above, then how do we resolve the fact that people are allowed to suffer here on earth? How can a God who is all knowing, all powerful and all good even allow one soul to go to hell? Where is the grace in a God who lets those things happen?
Always makes for interesting conversation with people who only repeat what others tell them without ever actually thinking about it.
Isn't that something along the lines of "The Thrill of Poverty?"
Why is gambling automatically associated with poverty? Anything that you do too much of can/will ruin your life. By that same logic I could say reading/. all day equals poverty since you'll lose your job eventually.
Gambling is just another form of entertainment that some people take too far. Just because Joe SpendMyLifeSavingsOnLotteryTickets can't control his own life, doesn't mean that I should not be allowed to play cards with friends once in awhile.
What really gets me is how some states like SC for example want to be super religious and say no to gambling, but write a special law into the state constitution allowing the lottery. So gambling is okay when sponsored by the state, but not when privatized? Sounds more like the state wants to keep it's monopoly on gambling./rant off;)

I agree. The ESPN sports games are really good this year. Especially for only $20 :) I wonder how much the $20 games have affected EA's bottom line?
