An enterprise License was just under $2k ($1800 - $1900 if memory serves) per developer per platform (Android or iOS) per year. The next level down I think was ~$1k per platform per year. The License for individuals to be able to have unlimited lines of code, use of 3rd party libraries, and VS integration, among other features was I think ~$30/month per platform. They did have a free option, but you were limited in the size of the programs you could build, couldn't use VisualStudio to build and deploy the apps (limited to Xamarin Studio), and couldn't import external libraries beyond the standard C# imports.

I have to wonder though; did it really require new hardware, or could Sony have unlocked the 4K Gaming capability through a firmware patch? Knowing Sony's track record, I seriously think they're going with the hardware fix only because it will drive more sales of the unit...where a simple OTA update probably would have sufficed. This question probably won't be answered without seeing the proposed hardware differences.

  9. So...would that be the version of Android with TouchWiz, Sense, Cyanogen, LG UX, Vanilla, or some other sort of custom build UI for the underlying Android/Linux Kernel?

With Apple, your experience is going to be about the same as any other Apple users' (save for the power users that jailbreak...but even this has a certain level of homogeneity). Android, your experience is going to change from brand to brand, model to model and in many cases from device to device. Android power users can even get more customizability by loading custom ROMs and being able to change the way core device interfaces work; and ever single one of these different branches and modifications fit into that 80%.

Android devices compared to Apple devices are analogous to the whole PC vs. Mac debate, which always ultimately boiled down to customize-able user experiences down to the hardware level Vs. Stable homogeneous platform with uniform user experiences that never deviate far from Apple's directive.

Hold on. My employer uses systems that are almost exclusively Microsoft based. For me to do my job for them, I have to know my way around Visual Studio. I have to know my way around Windows 7 and Windows Server versions 2008 & 2012. I have to know C# and Visual Basic as Microsoft puts out. I have to have at least one system at home inside the Microsoft Ecosystem (one Laptop with Windows 7 Enterprise) that I can use to perform any work from home duties during my on-call time. This in no way implies that I trust anything from Microsoft, especially in their current mode of ignoring customer wishes and essentially forcing Windows 10 upon any unsuspecting user's throat without adequate warning. Just because my Employer seems to implicitly trust MS in their endeavors doesn't mean that I must also share in that trust.

If MS does anything against my employer's trust that doesn't affect me beyond me being able to perform my job, it is still my employer's responsibility to either train me in the new ecosystem (MS support would be coming in to perform classes for all affected employees as part of the service contract), or spend the time returning the ecosystem to a state in which I can resume my duties. In either case I get paid for my time being a warm body in place. On my personal systems I don't trust MS not to screw with my home ecosystem, so it is then my responsibility that I make sure to mitigate my risks in that regard.

So in contrast to your statement, me making a living using Microsoft Software and me distrusting Microsoft are not mutually exclusive by any means.

You would have liked the GameCube version better. Same graphics and same story, only with a sane control mechanism and everything about the game was mirrored left to right of what the Wii version was. The game was originally designed for the GCN, complete with Link being left-handed as he was always designed to be. To accommodate for most players being right handed, and wanting Link to be aligned right for right-handed play...they flipped the entire game horizontally.

I still laugh when I remember the look the Gamestop employee gave me when I asked for the GameCube version (hadn't had the Wii yet.) Being the 3rd highest selling console, 5th if you count portables, and being gimmicky are not mutually exclusive. Also...being 3rd highest console REALLY isn't saying much when the PS2 and PS are in the number 1 and 2 slots respectively. Also note that the PS2 completely blew the Wii out of water in relation to sales gap (>155 Mil units vs 101.63 Mil units). That's a difference of more than 53 Million Units compared to the margin of less than 18 Million units between the Wii and PS3. I am not a Sony fan by any means. The PS4 is the first Sony product I've even considered purchasing in the last 30 years, and at this point that's all it is. Since 1986 I've been a rabid Nintendo fan, having owned every system except for the DS line of Nintendo portables, and vehemently defended the SNES from my friends' comparisons of it to the Genesis. Yes, this includes the Wii-U...though that is the first console I regret purchasing. Even more so than the nVidia Shield.

I agree that the Wii does deserve a prominent place in gaming history. I also recognize that Nintendo has tried to push the envelop on controller innovation with unorthodox designs since the NES (not to the greatest success). The Wii stick and nunchaku has to be the most gimicky controller system since the U-Force, PowerPad, and PowerGlove. The biggest failing is that Nintendo was trying to push the gimmick as the mainline. When I'm flailing my arms around trying to play an action RPG for the story elements, there's something wrong.

Rights cannot be taken away like that. Rights are not granted nor enumerated, either. The ability to drive must first be proven, then the government grants you legal ability to operate the vehicle on public roadways, and the legal ability can legally be taken away if you show the government that you cannot obey the requirements for maintaining the legal ability. It is not a right.

Actually, Nintendo is pretty much stuck on the GameCube...arguably their last great system where they even had a remote chance of being competitive. The Wii was essentially just a GCN redesign around a faulty UI gimmick with an apparent loss in power and quality. To understand what I mean, look at Metroid Prime on the GCN and compare that with Metroid Prime that's bundled in the Metroid Prime Trilogy. The gameplay is mostly the same (save for the screwed up controls on the Wii -- the gimmick, again), but there are several graphical effects in the GCN version that are noticeably absent on the Wii game. The missing effects in the Wii version include heatwaves coming off the arm-canon after a rapid fire session, space warping when the beam is being charged, seeing Samus' eyes "reflected" on the screen during glare effects, rain drops forming on the visor when looking up at a rainy sky...etc.

Wii-U thus far has only shown itself to be little more than a Nostalgia Machine, and not a very good one as #1 I'd have to re-buy all the classic games I want to replay, even though I have the original carts from 30 years ago and #2 Their current biggest titles are just remakes and rehashes of their biggest titles off the N64 and GCN.

I've debated on a current gen console for about a year now and my leanings, despite my reservations over their corporate stance, is going towards Sony for the first time in 20 years. It's looking at exclusive games like Horizon: Zero Dawn and Bloodborne, and comparing the performance Multiplatform games between the PS4 and the X-Bone that are making me lean in Sony's direction. As far as PC gaming goes, the PC launches of games like Watchdogs and Batman: Arkham Knight left me with a seriously bad taste in my mouth. I won't write PC off completely and have been using Steam for some very good Indie games that I can stream in 4K to my Shield, but the AAA companies are repeatedly proving that if you wanna play their titles, you best have a console.

  22. Yes, that would be correct. It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that there is space enough for his vehicle to make a lane change without causing the potential of a collision. The "blind spot" defense is not valid.

As part of my insurance company's driver education materials, if it comes down to the choice of a comprehensive claim (Deer strike, significant pot-hole, hit a tree, wind up in a ditch) or a collision claim (hit another vehicle or a guard rail), aim for the comprehensive if possible. Then you'll be less likely to face legal penalties as well as it'll be cheaper for the insurance company since there's only damage/medical to pay out for the insured's vehicle as opposed to however many vehicles are involved in the collision.

In this case, it seems the Google car made the wrong choice either due to lack of information (sensor was not aligned to cover potential blind spots or calibrated improperly) or calculation error. Also note that the summary states that the Google car was not rear-ended, but instead hit the bus in its side with the front of the Google Car. This indicates that the bus should have entered the car's "danger detection zone" before the car began moving into the lane. Again, the car didn't calculate something correctly, whether it be that it didn't receive all the necessary information or a bug in the program flow.

Disclaimer: This is only based on information as reported. The official investigation may turn up mitigating factors that I haven't accounted for that may alter my perceived judgement.

You realize you just gave support to the incentive for Disney to continue down the path of H1-B's, right? If their neighbor can't send their kid to college to become the next Walt Disney, they've just squashed a competitor before he even had a chance. They don't want someone who can build an empire out of doodles; they want someone who can re-create doodles that matches up with their marketing formula.

A better argument is that they don't want to stifle the income of their neighbor, because then their neighbor won't have as much disposable income to waste on their trash goods. Unfortunately, even that argument doesn't help out so much, since now Disney is making money hand over fist and having to find creative ways to mitigate overcrowding in their theme parks. Several neighbors no longer being able to afford to take a Disney vacation because of actions that Disney has done as a corporation is not going to cause any of the executives to loose any sleep...or even notice a change in their bottom lines.

  24. This wasn't stop and go traffic. This was an open interstate where suddenly there was a car stopped in the "hammer lane," while traffic was moving at normal speed around her. The lane is so named because it's the left hand lane where speeds are the highest.

  25. Responding as a Georgia Driver very well versed in Georgia Driving laws and have successfully self represented in court on several occasions. Thus, IANAL... but I don't need one on this.

First, a link to someone who is a Lawyer that represents in Georgia, USA

Point 1. The Driver of Car A (the lead car) involved in a rear-end collision will receive a Citation for faulty equippment, however will not be cited at fault for the accident. That will fall on the driver of Car B (the trailing vehicle).

Point 2. The case law is clear on this one. You must be able to perform an emergency stop and not collide with the vehicle in front in the event the vehicle in front of you performs an emergency stop of his own for ANY given reason. Whether this be he's avoiding an emergency stop in front of him, or avoiding a collision with a creature, it doesn't matter. It is the trailing driver's responsibility to maintain a safe buffer, whatever is safe for the conditions at the time, no ifs ands or buts.

Point 3. This is the only point your parent is wrong about. A driver that changes lanes and suddenly decelerates, thus creating an unsafe condition in which a collision occurs and he is rear-ended, that driver will be considered at fault for the accident and receive a citation on scene for "Improper Lane Change".

Again, I am not a lawyer, but I will play one legally and successfully in traffic court more often than not. My only argument with you is that I took exception to your blanket statement of "ALL jurisdictions" and gave you one concrete example of the exception that makes your statement patently false.
