This seems to be a classic example of if-it-aint-broke-don't-fix-it syndrome. TW's previous system seemed to handle their needs, and after the merger, they switched to AOL? Does anyone see the logic behind this? If you have a system that gets the job done without complaints, don't change it.

Campaign finance reform would help the situation, but even if Bush plans to sign it, the Supreme Court will overturn it. The distribution UberSecureLinux, is actually a standard distribution of RedHat Linux 6.2, default installation, but it requires you to remove the PowerCord(TM) device from your PC. With PowerCord(TM) removed, your machine is effectively hacker-proof.

UberSecureLinux hopes to dispel the myths that RedHat 6.2 is one of the most hackable distributions of Linux.

  21. Re:So... on Universal Music Prepares for Copy-Protection Complaints · · Score: 3, Insightful

The company's failure to provide a Linux compatible player is going to be the demise of the copyright protection. This is what started DeCSS, some kid who wanted to play a DVD on his Linux computer, because there was no commercial (read:legal) software available to play it.

Of course, they would never provide an open sourced solution, as it would be against the DMCA. Providing a binary only solution for Linux users may not prevent users from defeating the protection scheme, but it will certainly buy the company some time.

The problem that they face with Linux users is that Joe Windows doesn't care about the protection scheme, because he has a player that will work for his PC, no questions asked. However, the Linux community, and correct me if I am wrong, is generally more technical than the Windows community, and therefore, we have the ability to defeat this mechanism, even if our intentions are legitimate.

LinuxHardware.org does hardware reviews, but of course, they plug their own stuff.

Internet.com has a decent hardware review site, but this is mainly geared towards server hardware.

ZDNet also has a pretty decent Linux section, with hardware reviews and compatability lists.

And, if you want to get straight to business, Google has a wealth of information regarding tech review sites.

    Hope this helps,
