I've been using Linux for the last 11 years but I have also kept Microsoft on the family system because it has been more user friendly and familiar than Linux and cheaper than Mac. However.... this weekend after getting so frustrated at XP and the way it thinks it knows better than I do about what I want to do, and the fact it's o bug/virus/scumware/spyware/leachware etc.. I decided I would finally go completely M$ free. Wiped the hard drive on y laptop and installed Mepis Linux. Ordered a Mac Mini for the family. As soon as it gets here I'm going to install MythTV on the old XP box (ATI AIW 9600). It feels almost like I quit smoking.
I guess I look in the closet/garage/trunk/any other weird place/ and see if I have a registered copy of NT that I really care about. You know.... I I cared about any of that crap I would know where it was.
Am I the only one that is getting intercasino popups on slashdot? I get them on 2 different systems. I've run all of the spybot and adaware like tools that I can think of but I still get them (only on slashdot). What's going on?
Uh.. who pissed in your coffee? I'm talking about the "Big 7" consultants not the Jo Blow consultant. If you are a Joe Blow consultant and are charging $200/hour and you get any jobs at this point then you must be Ada Lovelace.
Accounting majors jumping on the dotcom bandwagon because the companies would hire anybody that touched a keyboard? The problem is the economy was oversold in IT. There was no need for grocery2you.com. They hire 300 people and the business plan sux so boom... 300 accountant/programmers out of work. Now the snowball effect... Sun can't sell as many systems because tiddlewinks.com went caput and their servers are on ebay for 0.02 on the dollar. Same for cisco/nortel/lucent...etc. The market is beginning to stabilize.
Outsourcing is an issue and it needs to be addressed. I think it will end up correcting itself in the next 3 years as the true global economy takes shape.
In 1999-2000 things were out of control. Consultants cost $220-$300/hour and people were paying it.
This is the real compairson. Overclock the AMD to 3.6GHz and see who wins. As soon as AMD gets tthe 90nm process perfected I think we will see a huge boost in AMDs clockspeed.
My brother bough a Pentium Pro 90/mobo at a computer fair in the mid 90's when they first came out (around $900) and we were building the box. Of course beer was involved. We got it all together and powered it up everything looked good until he tried to inhale beer and proceeded to hack on the motherboard. Sparks flew across the room and he system assumed room temperature. Luckily the vendor he bought it from was local and he ws able to return it as "faulty". Let this be a lesson... Don't drink and mod.
Wouldn't it be great if Google went took some of that IPO money and ended this whole fiaSCO? Google is one if not the biggest Linux house there is. With SCO's stock price down it would chump change for google.
Google... Buyout SCO and release all UNIX IP to the public!
Yes, I love the "High level C" language. I remember back in the days I heard about that "C" language and thought that it was a plot to make all of us assembler and BASIC programers obslete. I was right. Anyone use OS9 on a Coco?
I remember a german compan called Omega that was going to do the same with the MacOS. Bold claims that ended up being vapor. Here is a websie with some info on COS.
Take a look at the Dell home systems. They've been including it for quite awhile. I bet there are more WordPerfect users than you realize. Wordperfect is a great word processor. If they wouldn't have stumbled during the Win 3.0/3.1 days then the could still own the market. AMI Pro was really the best word processor during those days until... hmmm... who bought it..Lotus???... IBM owns it now and it is called WordPro.. I Still think that Open office has everything that anyone needs...
I really hate to say it but you are an Idiot. The tax cuts are what's getting us out of this mess. How in the hell is paying more taxes going to help the economy?

The FBI, CIA, AFLCIO, EFF, PGA, SEC, NFL, RNC, and Zell Miller approve.
Now I have to type a paragraph of non-sense because I can't post my comment due to the Lameness filter.
Lameness filter encountered. Post aborted!
Reason: Don't use so many caps. It's like YELLING.
Try to find a driver got a siemens 1022 USB device. What do you find? 40 pages of resellers for amazon. Google has become freakin worthless.

Has anyone seen Steve Jobs and Bono at the same place? Could they be the same........ Nah.....
What? War was their best album!!
It's probably going in the Advance Research Center (ARC) that COLSA runs for the Army
No, what we have here is a cut and paste job from Fark?

I can get a AMD 2000+ and motherboard cheaper than I can get the 512 MB of mem to go into it. This doesn't seem right.
It looks like Autozone has been using Redhat since 1999.

Shouldn't they be renamed "Space Force"? Maybe "Air and Space Force"?
They start outsourcing all of the game playing jobs to India for 1/10th the cost.
Bolo... The ultimate strategy/action game that was originally developed for the Mac but has now been re-written for windows/Linux.

Get it and enjoy.
Wesley Clark's comments from the debate last night. "Let them do the software in India; we'll do other things in this country."
