Very OT, but i cant resist. Gnostic pseudo-christian myths of the 15th century
Gnostic pseudo christian myths are much earlyer than that, they derive from maniqueism and are definitly pre 6th century. You can see people got burned for beleiving in those way back then. Actually, its the first recorded hierecy of chirstianity.
Well, this is the best FUD SCO has pulled so far. I mean, this guy is articulate and now hes playing the victim angle. He is also cynic enough to explain to us what this is all about.
The worst part, is that he is such a good communicator one can even end believing in him. And im a blindfolded linux junkie (i live of linux and GPL software, thank you very much).
Now, the interesting part of this, is that lets say yeah, linux infringes by court of law and etc. etc. etc.
It will take the community a year to either fork to a clean base or move to a bsd based kernel. Hey this may even force a scenario where BSD copyright holders my want to release BSD GPL just to not see a GNU pure system die. Anyhow, lets say it takes a year or two to get back on track, by then (2007 since trial is late 2004-2005), i dont think it will matter so much really. Brasil (LA major economie), China (Asia major econimie, probably by 2007 will be second to none), europe...etc. Will be swarming with FLOSS, both at the state and at the private enterprises. Darl has gotta stop them NOW (and he aint succeding), not in 2005.
If he doesnt, darl is gonna have to do much more than this to stop that size of projects (bush would have to invade a couple of pretty large, socialist oriented nuclear, or developing nuclear enabled powers to enforce this).
By 2007, all your OS is belong to us, and maybe you can fuck up redhat and charge them for each sale, but u aint gonna kill debian (a good chunk of it is developed in europe). So there, i aint going nowhere. Gimme my GPL and ip infinging Linux and thank you very much.
Yes, I understand, know and admire thease features of the USA democracy and they are mostly good, proven to also give more power to the little guy and to make democracy more participative through municipal (county, municipalities, states) power.
But still, it is based on the idea that people actually respect their country and its democracy ideals.
I know its a hard thing to accept, but it looks like some people, important people, like eVote boxes makers, or some ballot workers, simply do not understand or care about this values enough to do it right.
And i dont want to go over and speak about governors, presidents and brotherhood thereoff and how even they may not hold this values very dear.
I know electoral fraud when see it. Ive been there, i live in what used to be the result-country of electoral law and values violations.
If you guys dont defend the very mechanism that warrants your freedoms, you may very soon end up going back about 50 years on the matter of your own rights.
All this tells you is how little importance is the US giving to electoral fraud. You have been framed since bush 'won' the election, you just cant believe it. I know the feeling, i live in a country that is the result of electoral tampering.
Here we now have an extremely accurate (if not efficient) system for ballot counting because we had lost all trust about elections. I feel thats the sad way great america is going. I really hope that americans realize the gravity of the matter of having poll workers doing anything but what exactly is prescribed in the law. Do you have any idea of how easy it is to cheat if you dont have a clear, homogeneous, procedure to count and put the ballots in place?
Sheesh, it will kill the traditional participation in democracy if you let it guys, dont let them rob u of your freedom.
Oh, redhat isnt going to be available to me anymore cause ill have to paaaay!
What am i gonna do now? Go to hard to install distros like mandrake? Buahh bad redhat!
Quit whining please, help the fedora project be the best it can be or line up behind your favorite free distro. Free software communities are the only place in the world where users can participate in making the software go one way or the other by setting a quality standard by themselves. Dont waste the oportunity.
Hi, im Mexican. Youre probably wondering why would someone start a comment like that, but actually it has a lot to do with the issue. You see, Mexicans know, first hand, what electoral fraud is. We practically invented it and perfected it through 30 years of mass electoral fraud.
By 1994 we (well, not we, the assholes who did it) had refined the techniques to the point that dead people got to vote.
Now, to the point. Todays mexican electoral system is the most technologically advanced in the world. Our voting card is one of the most secure documents that exist of their class, and the votes are openly and transparently counted, on the naked eye of people from all parties at least a couple of times.
Now, thats expensive! you say, its better to have eVoting cause its much cheaper!
Well, it may be so, but then again your president stole the election because his bro fiddled arround a bit with a couple of classic "shaving" (thats what we call this kind of fraud) of the voting lists in florida.
Now, i find it sad that the modern craddle of democracy (post industrial revolution at least) and the people that conform it are just numb about all this facts, numb about their electoral system being fiddled with be it electronic or just classicly tampered with.
Participative democracy is whence the citizens directly get involved in policy making, either by representation of a non-goverment association, by direct lobbying with their congressmen or simply by participating actively in the policy decition making process.
Cant u see guys? Youve been framed. And now you have wifi enabled voting boxes that are voting for you, and the powers that be are so incredibly stupid they cant even make a vote counting software (come the fuck on, the slashdot poll is probably harder to do than that), and americans are not scandalized about it. You guys are NUMB, youve been taken advantage of, you have people destroying the 'cool' factor of america by removing your freedoms.
Okay, maybe americans are right not to be so paranoid. Id probably wouldnt be as well if i was there and i get it, i mean, who would be so bad as to abuse this kind of glitches. Its an almost impossible thought.
But nay, nay i say, if you dont see the florida thing in your presidential election as the first abuse of the ingenuity that so calssically defines american people, you shurely cannot see the danger, the sheer danger your country is to being abused by evildoers.
I dont know, its an opinion. I got voted down for ofering the code snippet for the eVote Boxes in florida once. Here it is again:
if(vote.for('gore')) {
vote.set('bush'); }
votecounter.add(vote);//And, in this newer case,//uncomment to get the latest behaviour////votecounter.add_seq(seq(25,000,number.random/NOR M));
You see, if they didnt have us on their tails, they wouldnt be developing this nice tech. I havent seen it, but ill bet you its very close to perfect. As is their handwrite recognition (that one i tested and it is superior to anything out there) and other high tech goodies for CE.
I am no fan of microsoft, but in this areas is where they have a chance against OSS. And i think they may succeed in being the best-of-breed for consumer end software if they keep going on this path. This is nice, any CEO will want their gear to listen to them (CEOS like being heard, you can catch them talking to their desks and all with their pants down...err..kshutup).
Competition is GOOD. If this is the only way microsoft fought, id have no problem in buying their stuff. Too bad it aint, they also milk stupid Darlian CoWs From The ScoLAnd so, this means they still go to the trash bin for me.
Your application's Scalability is directly proportional to the number of well used neurons by the application's programmer and the sysadmin.
Java has nothing to do with you being stupid or smart, neither does php.
On the other hand, Sun has a lot to do with the fact that most ITManagers are brain dead trolls that drool over whatever the um... 'leaders' of the technology revolution of the 'Internet' tell then.
I was almost contracted by LARGE MULTINATIONAL (convenience stores, all numbers is the name) in my country to do benchmarking of an HP/Compaq SAN product. They moved everything to Oracle/Linux and now they just wanted assurance that the san was going to behave for the kind of demand they were going to generate (about 4000 sales points, plenty realtime applications on each, enough bandiwth in every one of those).
When they saw the price on the benchmarks (bout 15% the cost of the tested box), they backed out. Last i heard, they switched back to their sucky w2k/SQLServer stuff.
Interesting thing is though, the HP people could not ASSURE their clients the SAN was going to perform adequatly.
I have no idea how good the box is, but it shure does speak badly about the way HP treats and trains its channel.
Okay. What if we make a record in DNS not unlike the MX record to support jabber-like protocols right into the DNS standard?
That would effectively make it possible to make IM kinda like the mail service, easyer to adopt from the perspective of large and small ISP's and webs ervices providers.
This way, you could sort of 'ask' your ISP what IM servers are running throughout their networks, it could be propagated all the way to the top (thats the nature of DNS), so we could all probably find each other one way or another....
Very OT, but i cant resist.

You better be carefull, we do not forgive nor forget, stand down!
Diebold has filed a responsive pleading...
Pleeeathe maathter, dont kill us in a PR war with the g33x0rx... Please...
EFF Sayz: NAY, i hereby condemn you to the removal of both your bits.
.....The Beaver F0rkS YOU!
Um...
apt-get install kernel-source-2.4.6-test9 or 10 whatever....
Then apt-get install module-init-tools um....thats it. Edit lilo to dual boot and presto.
Oh, you said redhat....bummer
President Bush main strength is that he is constantly underestimated and overly mocked.
Mkay.... that says it all.
You tell that to the 300k kids fighting them. War is a media show for the assholes paying for it (you).

...last kicks
That is what we call this in Mexico. Now this is what i call competitive pressure.
Now what about excel?
Oh and BTW, now MS is playing catch-up with OO.o.
Thanks microsoft, i think you are starting to 'get' it.

Whatever what! Its a perfectly sound and true statement.
Oh, redhat isnt going to be available to me anymore cause ill have to paaaay!

We havent talked to a single [WINDOWS] user that is using it because its better.....
I would recomend talking to Linux users so that the 'statistic' doesnt skew so much...
Come out! -Gandalf said....
And then, blah blah blah blah.....then gandalf said...
Saruman, Your staff is broken! (all your staff is belong to us)....
You get the point. Its a tremendously important culmination of the first part of the war.

The GPL'D! Linux kernel.
Im putting money into that bet.... FSF, its time to go in for a BIG class action lawsuit now that they still have their money.
Think about how they see this thing.
"Linux is ours, so we can use it as we see fit"
They are switching SCO *ix to Linux, thats how they are getting the cool new features.

MOD_SSL and apache-ssl will probably have the same kind of problems.
Now that you mention it....

Who will pay me for the time slashdot has wasted in my life?
