'I helped wreck a nice beach' I am hopping that Siri will be better that speech recognition that has been floating around for the last 15+ years, it isn't new. What the young people have missed is the video done by Apple Developers in about 1987 which showed a tablet with great speech recognition, but was Sculley's dream and not Steve's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knowledge_Navigator
In many countries, taking photos in public space is OK, but the ower of a building, shopping centre etc has the legal right to prevent you from taking photos within the private space. As for taking the phone/camera, again it depends on where you are, usually it's just erase the film or erase the images, I don't believe that they can take your personal devices away from you. Anyway, it is reasonable to expect that there should be signs around saying 'no photos', or instructions saying that it's condition or entry.
posts starting with "An anonymous reader writes" should be filtered out, or just skipped over. Glad to see their server was slashdotted, saves the rest of us from this carp.
Edison had 1000+ patents, some appear to minor variations on previous works, why don't we complain about Him? as this article is just more anti-apple trolling, why does/, bother?
in the end you must understand that in 99% of cases, they would end up booting you out if it was required. Loyalty only goes as far, then it's down to business.
My guess is that the original deal with NeXTSTEP, that gave Windows 95 many of it's UI elements, finally expired.:-) This leaves only MacOSX still running NS code.
battery life depends on use and charge cycle. normal driving/charging will give much more than 5-6 years use. for many drivers the fuel savings over 5-6 years would pay for new batteries twice over. Anyway, it's a premium car with a premium price, the buyer won't care.
You bought an eReader that browses, not a real browser, You can't expect too much for the price that you paid. This issue stopped me from buying an eReader as I want to browse more than read.
the pattern is usually a low starting price to lock you in and then the price floats up at the end of the contract period, either 6 months or a year later. NBN promises a roughly equal service to most people in Oz, some of us won't see much speed difference, others will. The downside is that rural customers will only get the service they have now, that is, poor ADSL, or 3G wireless, sat doesn't really count as it's usually subsidised and services so few few people. NBN isn't planning on going into towns smaller than 1000 people.
in a world where iPlods are common place I don't see why hearing aids have to be small or expensive. A quick and dirty app would give similar functionality to equaliser type hearing aids and it could easily include DIY tuning by playing a series of tones and allowing the user to adjust the levels so that they sound about the same. First person to the patent office wins the prize.
the new Mac-Mini runs it's fan all of the time, but at only 1800 rpm, once you start to work the thing hard it needs to run at twice that speed. Bad case design leads to noise as the air exits the box. Someone could do a kit that sits under the mini and does a better job of cooling. But as the OP has sold the mini, it's too late. Spend money, buy a nice passive cooled case.
yep, sorry, Motherboards usually come with cables. Unless you buy retail pack CPUs, you don't usually get a heatsink, which is usually the way I buy them. And no-one said CLOUD, you can just have a Single Linux-box or Net storage box which mounts as part of the file system.
It fails because you need to load an OS from somewhere, from something, so you need to include the cost of the USB stick and time/cost of downloading Linux. I didn't see the cost of HD cable either. CPU Heatsink? Minor stuff but it all adds up. 2 GB of ram? pfft. Why have a HD at all? boot from USB and use Network storage.
sorry but I don't get it. Why dump time zones for the sake of business? which is the only major reason for doing so. The majority of the population would get ZERO benefit from changing the current system.
what? they only have, at best, 10% of market share of the PC world. Apple sets a price, you buy it, or you go to the 90% of other people who are able to offer similar product, many would say better products.
I have never been comfortable with this sort of thing. It may be that I've seen too many movies.

A really hot BBQ, when the alloy melts then they are done, serve hot, with chips.
Apple Events would have done the same. I loved CyberDog, so sad when it stopped working.

undocumented is not hidden. There is also a bucket load of standard UNIX apps there for you to play with too.

I come back from holidays and see this, and Steve steps down too. I'll miss you more.

we were building GM GTOs in Australia and sending them to the USA and GM was selling them at a loss just to keep in that market niche.
