It does not matter if someone else builds a better version, the person who developed the original idea has some protection, to think otherswise is the domain of big business. In the good old days the second company would negotiate a license or some other arrangement.

  10. Newton, been there, done that on The Death of Folders? · · Score: 1

On the original Newton PDA, all info was tagged and thrown into a 'soup' so when you wanted anything it was retrieved by a search. It completely removed the concept of folders and directories. But people like folders and so psuedo folders appeared, which were simply the results of searches. Apple also pushed the concept of a 'folder' icon opening a window and actually showing search results in the pre-Copland (spelling?) OS8 days. I don't think that CP/M had folders or directories?

I am reasonable, I just think that it is a laugh that people post spelling corrections in a global forum, on the internet. I don't correct merkins for mis-spelling 'colour' and I try to avoid grammar correcting. The issue is Big US companies, who are currently hoarding patents, being unhappy that they have to pay for a key piece of technology. IIRC Apple was wanting 50c per firewire port. :)

So share files with 10 people for a year and the damage is 10 x 12 x $5 = $600, and as many people are being leached by others for many gigs of mp3 per month, you could say that the usual $3000 damages claim may be a cheap way out.

sorry, I don't have any sympathy for thieves or idiots.

I don't believe that they sell it as MacOSX Tiger, so the suit will only stop, what? references to an internal code name for a product, that has been used for a couple of years, big deal.
