The employer exercises their rights to pay you for the two weeks and ask you to leave. When made redundant, I was given an hour, and escorted around. I have heard of 15 minutes, with the person not able to return to his office. At my current workplace they expect 4 weeks notice, but I know that in unusual cases the employee has departed after handing in his resignation.

I have lived in houses with electric storage and instant, and gas storage and instant water heaters, in metro and rural areas. Gas is better because of cost, but there are some current electric systems which given the right circumstances are very efficient. When overall purchase and running costs are factored in, I doubt, based on my experience, that using microwaves would be cheaper/better then resistive electric heaters.

Serial port and ethernet tester. Good quality soldering tool, I like JBC, but we, the the service dept, also use basic Weller with the right tips, cheap and long lasting.

  16. Re:Unfortunately that's it on Australia's largest telco to be split · · Score: 1

Yep, from the earliest times the telecommuncations side of the PMG, then Telecom, then Telstra ran at a profit and financed the expansion of the network, and consistantly returned money to the Government. Taxpayer funded telecommunications in Oz is a Myth. In fact almost every rural service is run at a loss, the cost of providing the service and the links to the rest of the network is rarely recovered from the phone charges. A ballpark figure for just the cost of wire from the switch to the rural phone is ~AU$4000 per customer, not counting the cost of the switch, power, transmission equipment etc, the worst I know of was $40,000 per phone, (on a 128 cusomer system) the customers only payed the maximum $1500 each.
