What is the point of posts (and news items, etc.) like this? I suppose someone will argue, "So that we can prevent such a cataclysm!" To me, it seems very unlikely that we could prevent all -- or even any -- of them. It also seems like a wonderful argument for throwing more billions and billions of dollars down the MIC toilet.
The comparison between this practice and open source is definitely not apt. It's exactly the kind of obfuscation that Ken Brown of the ADTI wants: this Manga distribution genuinely is samizdat.
I assume that Microsoft has twice chosen Sourceforge to host their OSS projects because of the visibility and credibility it lends their open source steps. However, MS certainly doesn't need SF's resources. Does anyone know if MS has made any donation -- monetary or otherwise -- to SF?
You must have really had your nose in the books. Ottawa is also home to OLS, OSW, the GCC Summit, and the Kernel Summit (see http://lwn.net/Articles/3467/ ). Other stuff too.:)

"...it seems, to me, that our personalities appear to be much less influenced by out environment and more by our genes."
What made it seem like that to you? Genes, I guess.
I hope Hollywood recognizes the potential in this for a sequel to "Repo Man" ( http://us.imdb.com/Title?0087995 ). Right down to menacing glowing box. It's pure gold.
...and a paper ballot! The presence or absence of an 'X' or a check, in a human script, is fairly incontrovertible. If counting takes 3, 4 days or a week, it's well worth it.
We all have seen that "chads" are fussy things, prone to hanging. And we're hip to the fact that bits are very evanescent things.
Reaching for democracy is a worthwhile pursuit, worth some pencils, some paper, and a little time.

when does Linux stop being an "upstart" in the popular press? It's getting on to 15 years old, and it's quite prevalent already.
ignoring us will be a better deal than ever!" said Stowell.

...You Shall Know Them.
Yes it is that Mac OS X isn't F/OSS.
Mac OS X is not Free/open source software. Its kernel is; or at least, the basis of its kernel. Perhaps some other parts, too.
"Prosumer"? "Prosumer"?? "Prosumer"???
No really, they've been using the GPL'd Fnord! webserver for years now, I believe. See http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=01/05/25/123223 6
