    and when i can use my trackball and mouse to play *anything* i will consider it, however there are a huge number of bad ass PC games that never come out for console.. the reverse is also true but not nearly to the same degree..

    yes finding a decent job in IT has become basically impossible in teh areas i have been in, so much so that i'm going back to school and trying to get a degree in something totally not related to IT at all.. I find it laughable and sickening simultaneously that, after having read the article, a lot of it focused on the belly aching of managers and others who were upset because they had been knocked down to telecommuting one day a week and had to go without their yoga instructors while other people have to sell their houses and make *real* sacrifices to survive.. good luck with your interview.. and dont' count on the job until you have the cash in your bank account.

    this for video rental places if it can be done in an non-environmentally harmful way

    right now my g/f has a $300 fine for having 2 videos that are like 6 mos overdue which is completely insane..

    if the tapes had just melted after 3 days or wahtever no one would have any problems

    (of course here you see the catch 22, because why would Blockbuster pay extra to NOT get their late fee money which I'm sure is a substantial portion of their income)

    if you want your call escalated to higher tiers they always ask you waht operating system.. i even had one tier 3 guy ask me for my email address so he could ask me networking questions after i explained to him what NAT was and that I was using OpenBSD (and that the problem was on their end) and after much cajoling i got him to escalate me against his bosses orders to The People Who Actually Know Shit Dept and I got my issues resolved with in 5 minutes of talking to the "Engineer"... companies are totally unwilling to accept that you are not a moron adn their support monkeys are all scripted and know nothing at all.. so basically if your shit doesn't work and you don't have a *supported* platform you're on your own..

    Comcast does not support *nix at all, and if you tell them you ahve it they will hang up on you, but at least in indianapolis, comcast@home worked with my various *nix boxes flawlessly

    but i haven't bought any cd's for years mostly because the quality of mainstream music is so shitty that i had lost nearly all interest in it.. instead i had turned purely to internet bhased sources like spinner.com to hear diffrent artists of a widely varying and electic range of cultural musical backdrops and hopefully more and more people will find out that like one of the parents above this one pointed out they have been obsolete for several years and are jsut now figuring it out and trying to stave off their inevitable demise.. they're not needed as middle men so they better find a way to "add value" from the *consumer*'s viewpoint instead of theirs

    i consider tomshardware to be one of the best, most honest/accurate/valuable publications available online today (no i don't work for them)... i've used their advice to buy countless components and several full machines and have never been disappointed; they save me the work of scouring 30 different news sites and making my own balanced unbiased opinion because Tom's already is.

    i've bought 3 or 4 copies of some of my cd's just becuase they fuck up, but i haven't had to do tha tin years thanks to p2p services.. i just re-download the song in flawless digital formats and make myself a new disk at a fraction of the cost (roughly 3 1/2 minutes and what a quarter for the cd?)

    i hope phillips rapes them for all their worth for their trademark infringement and then they will learn that not only will they not increase their marginal revenue at all by spending more to sell disks that no one wants but they will lose business instead and maybe companies thsi fucked up will be taken out of the loop the natural way: Bankruptcy

    i've bought every blizzard game from blackthorne on floppy to starcraft to diablo but after what they did I did not purchase WarCraft III, yea I'm just one consumer and yea they dont' give a fuck about me but at least I make an effort to be consistent, where they do not.

    1.44 floppy net-based installs, which is what i usually use and i've been using openbsd since 2.5

    just because there are no "Official" iso's does not mean that they are not available from "Unofficial" sources just look around but you really should support hte project if you can

    (the t-shirts/posters/stickers are all cool and the later can only be found w/ the official cdrom distribution)

    my personal server (which is used primarily for NAT and personal ftp) has been running OpenBSD for years and it's certainly hte most elegant and simply designed UNIX based system that I've ever used and is far more intuitive and secure than Linux (which i have also dealt with since '95 and presently have a debian desktop machine running under my desk so no flames please) by default.. anyway my $.02

    there are a huge number of soundcard without a front panel

    including all the ones in all of the 4 machines i own w/ sound cards, in fact only a handful of modern pc's compared to the overwhelming majority which if they have a cdrom drive ALL have the audio headphone jack on the front

    of course being on /. i don't expect you to be anything but myopic about what other people's hardware requirements may or may not be, just because you waste $200 a year on the latest greatest soundcard doesn't mean everyone else does
