Had about 10-15 attempts today on my parents AOL connection. I have authentication enabled on my server and seem ot have all patches i can find installed. I wanna be back behind my smoothwall install though.
I don't care how many times Apple says that G4 machines are faster than their PIII/Athlon counterparts at the same clock speed, it simply isn't true unless you're talking about applications that take advantage of Altivec
I think that is the point. I know a lot of physics post grads who use G4s simply because they are so damn fast when you really USE them.
Surely if the WTC has been hit twice they have a way of defending the pentagon. I know missiles seems almost as awful but what if it had been the whitehouse?
But does the average consumer really care? Does it matter to US? The joe/jane in the street who goes to pcworld or compusa to buy a pc will get a fairly equal machine be it a 1.4 (pr1600) AMD or a P4-1.6ghz. But the amd will still be cheaper.
Now when it comes to the techies/geeks/overclockers we will still be able to buy our chips and yeah ok my new bios will say PR1600 but i know that 10.5x133 means it is running at 1400mhz.
Lets see, I do a degree in physics and computing. I run programs and simpulations that even with optimisations can take hours/days to run. A Mathematica calculation for a maths mate that took 24 hours on his p2-450.
I can use voice recognition easily with lots of ram and a fast cpu. I long for the day when I can say "computer play xyz.mp3"
*quote*if you want the real deal, look at the architectures and do some mental math. that G4 (the 9450) if completely optimized could do 4 times the number crunching in the same time as a p4.*/quote*
Oddly in the physics department at my uni a lot of the postgrads and phds use G4s for simulations....
It really does of course depend on what you are planning to do with the machine. If you are an average home user then really there is no need for the latest 1.4Ghz amd or 1.8 P4 unless you are the hardest of hard core gamers. I myself still use a dual celeron 550 machin and a p233 laptop for most of my programming work. However there are ALWAYS needs for faster machines for say science uses. If you are running a simulation that takes 3 weeks even a dual cpu (or scale to 32 who knows) will reduce this time but one day you will need a faster machine for the next level. The early adopters push hardware and feed advancement
No thats not the point. Just because you disagree (as do I) with spamming does NOT mean that he isn;t entitled to a fair hearing against an injust and down right stupid law.
You have broken ROT13 go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect a fair trial. Hey Kevin
Hubble is one of those great things in that it does give us lots of scientific data whilst still apealing to the "oooh nice photos" public who fund it via their taxes.
Nope it is acceptable to add your site to peoples bookmarks. You can even download a dreamweaver extension to do such a thing. It takes very litle work to make this the homepage (i now add - like icq and aol do)

You know that might just be the problem. I have to reinstall linux on my machine soon (new harddrive) so will get back to you on this one.
[Melissa] You go girl, that AOL chick is way to populeeeer
[Nimida] Right on sister she has had over 20 mil users
[Melissa] What to do think IloveYOU?
[ILY] She is l4m3r than that kornukova girl!
I probably should try VMware or that other on LinWin? Silly parents not having cable...
It loads [win2k AOL 6] but it doesn't connect:
See Here for details of my attempts
I know i havn't updated the page in weeks I have had more pressing matters

But the margin is protected by the DMCA and so is to small to write the solution.
Can't see anything in nature or the xxx.lanl.gov archives. Am I being dumb?

See my pain @ http://www.dualsky.co.uk/art/aolinux.htm
Once i add some scsi , network, raid cards I can slow it down again :o)
Must resist urge to be early adopter
Couple a few of these in a cluster with HAL and you have a machine that will refuse to install winXP! I am sorry dave i can't let you do that.

I forgot to mention (in jest) that 100,000 photos is approx 0.001% of pr0n photos on the net

ps congrats to the people who run it
