That is my experience with the one Geek I know. I have the feeling what they do is put one head/real geek in the shop and surround him/her with underlings who know how to play games on their xboxen. Likely, the head geek gets overwhelmed with work the others are incapable of handling. So they ship off some of the work which the underlings misdiagnose because they'd seen that error before. And the store's man hours arn't exceeded by the one guy making all the overtime. This makes management happy as they will now get their big bonuses.
Because most Americans can't make the distinction between Socialism the Government Model and Socialism the Political Party. And those that do know the difference think the latter's goal is to set up the former. In a nation where individualism is everything, you'll find greater resistance.
I think they'd be beter off slitting the throats of the people who screw them. There's only one thing greedy people understand better than greed. That's violence.
See, this is how it works. If they pass bills 'protecting' people, regardless of how stupid the laws are, they can say they are at least doing something 'for' people. If the would be good laws get passed over, it's just fodder that nobody remembers.
I live in Wake county. Wakefield is one of the super rich area of the county. And while I'm sure there are some relatively poor students there, the odds of them having access to the resources to set up a proxy is unlikely. Besides, poor people know when to give up. Rich people looking to get away with petty things know when to sue.
Couldn't wait to get home to update your myspace account? They blocked Fark where I work for pornographic reasons. You know what I do? I wait til I get home. Face it. You got caught. You should have given up the first time. Repeatedly moving it just makes you look guilty. Guilty of what? Not running a proxy. Guilty of using school resources inappropriately. See http://www.wcpss.net/Technology/pdf/6446.pdf I think anyone who reads it will agree that regarless of their support of the rules or lack there of, you did in fact break the rules. Better you learn now at an early age there are consequences for your actions. You can't disregard rules you don't like and expect nothing negative to happen to you. Wait until you get to college. No one there will give a rats ass about you. You will be expected to do things you don't like. When you fail, you fail you, not some well meaning underpaid teacher. Best thing you could do right now is admit to your mistake and suck up the consequences.

Maybe if you buy a computer built in Mexico for an American company with substandard parts from Asia you can get one that does that. Or you can play it smart and buy an American product made in America.
I like the 'Corolla Corollary'. If we use 'Ford's Law', I would expect my computer to spontaneously flip over and catch on fire because of a faulty five cent connector.
It's a little obvious the Chinese will sacrifice some of their population in the name of progress. They'll have to as there aren't enough women to go around. No hope for marriage? Join the Army and kill Japanese and Taiwanese. Hell, throw in a few Americans. Until someone drops a bomb and solves both problems.
IBM wasn't crushed by competition in the PC market. They simply changed their revenue model. They would have sold the division/brand to Dell if the money had been right. Lenovo is now in the position that the US Government won't do business with them for security reasons. Many longtime IBM customers won't buy from them because they are backed by a communist government. IBM's only concern is the five year branding contract. Lenovo could fail to maintain or build a customer base and go under due to market pressure. They'd still be accountable to the contract. And after it expires, IBM could take it to someone else. And what would the Chinese have then?
But yes, that's not to say America has a monopoly on success. Conceivably, instances like Daimler-Chrysler could happen in other industries.
Powerful people don't remain powerful by making themselves easily replaceable. Sure, an Indian could fill the position. But that person doesn't have the personal networks from years of kickbacks, backroom deals, favors and reputation. The only reason someone would be replaced like this would be for political reasons.
They're mostly pissed that there's not a giant flashing button that says "Click this giant flashing button to read your stupid mail". Mainly because the userbase they support can only react to things put in that light. Most users only need a few features. Show them too many on the workspace or icon bar and they stop out of bewilderment. Show them too few and they don't know where to start. You start adding 'features' like archiving and they get confused. Tell them they have to use it and suddenly there's a revolt, despite archiving speeding up the app.
I never found Notes to be counterintuitive. The client setup was different than other email clients I've used. I never had any problems with calendaring. But I view that as being a different paradigm. But then again, I worked for IBM at the time. And I assume we were the testbed for their bleeding edge solutions.
I thought HR was there to give upper management something to leer at. Or for them to fuck on their two hour lunches. I don't know which one it is my management team is doing. But our HR isn't doing much in the way of helping anyone do anything.
My company is one of them. Sanmina-SCI
And I hope they rot in hell.

Only the ones worth a shit do it for their love of music.

Which is real practical in a 24 hour operation where you work bankers hours and take a long lunch. And no one on the night shift speak Hindi.

Not a bad idea.
I can think of several sensible solutions.
But they involve things that might require one to seek legal council.
It's a vicious cycle.

Saying Notes is a glitzy version of Access is like saying a Formula 1 engine is a glitzy version of a lawn mower.
Wow, I'd like to see that? How hard/expensive is it to set up a forge?
