  1. Why would they object? on Directors Guild of America is Fighting Edited Films · · Score: 1

I thought about this question for a while. Why would they care? They've already got our money.

I think they're fighting here not because of "artistic value", but for something more sinister: Ad revenues. You heard me right. If you've seen Vanilla Sky you've already been exposed to the countless in-movie ads for Lexus. Now if they allowed us to control the editing, maybe one day we'll start editing commercials out completely.

To me, it's just corporate double talk. The wolf hiding in sheep's clothing.

  2. MS is should be afraid on Linux Sales Down, But... · · Score: 2, Interesting

MS is indeed afraid of Linux. You see, with other competitors they can just squeeze their profits dry and kill them off. With Linux it's not so easy, because money and profit doesn't matter here. That is one less lethal weapon that they've got. In fact it's probably one of the major reasons Netscape crashed.

So go ahead MS, keep trying. Linux ain't dying buddy.

  3. lack of regulation on Meet the Spammers · · Score: 1

I think the government and many corporations are partly to blame for this.

    1) The government because it's too incompetent and slow to move.

I have personal experience dealing with my local police. I called them once regarding a case of internet identity theft. Their response to me? Something like "we don't have any way to get at these cases, so why don't you just change your e-mail and other online identities?" How INCOMPETENT is that!

    2) Some corporations because they want to reserve the right to market to internet users.

Companies are reluctant for any type of anti-spam regulation, even if most of them don't spam. Why? Because any regulation threatens to restrict them from mass emailing current/potential customer base.

I'm so sick and tired of these types of articles.

It's not like there aren't free alternatives for learning now is it? And if anything the schools should be pushing the government for more funding and do things the legitimate way, as opposed to just breaking laws.

    2. The theory being talked about in the article is already widely known in psychology. I forget the exact term for it, but in real life it's the same. If you got injured in a crowd of people, the chances are less that you'll get someone to call 911 than if there were only a couple of people on the street. In a crowd everybody just thinks someone else will or have already called the paramedics.

M$ knows the government is watching them. They know that any one of these days they can REALLY be split up.

What would you do if your company were in such a situation?

I'll tell you what I'd do. I'd purposely let my competitors gain a bit of market share, but keep them in check at all times. I'd invest in Apple so they don't go kapoof. I'd play up Linux as a competitor just so "they" think M$ isn't really a monopoly any longer.

Don't fall for this people. Not saying that it's happening, but be on the lookout.

    Now for my second point:

M$ has a concentrated effort to kill their competitors, but Linux doesn't. When's the last time Linux embraced and extended a protocol to mess with M$'s implementation? Like never. And when was the last time M$ changed a standard and broke Linux compatibility? **cough**Samba**cough**

Until there's a concentrated effor on behalf of the Linux community to mess with M$ in return, this competition isn't really anything they're afraid of.

Let's just say a day comes when Linux gains so much market share that M$ really starts feeling the heat? What can they do? They can make their own version of Linux and "extend" it till they kidnap it all to themselves. And this would only occur "IF" (and that's a big IF) Linux ever gains THAT much market share.

Dumb topics like "cure for cancer?" or "eat foods with fat to lose weight?" get weekly coverage. Sensational headlines that follow up with a "stay tuned", meaning you have to sit through a whole hour of this "stay tuned" delay BS just to finally learn that the headline was full of baloney, designed so that you will "stay tuned" and watch all of the commercials.

What we see on tv is a distortion of reality. It is based on short sound bites, misleading statements like "a cure for cancer? stay tuned", and a bunch of marketing bullshit.

You know what's the best solution? Turn off that god-awful tv and read the newspapers. Go outside and experience life for once.
