Actually, all macromedia did was BUY futuresplash animator from FutureSplash Inc because it was a very great, much easier to use compeditor to their shockwave offering if you just wanted to do simple good looking animation. I can remember being forced to use the original product under protest, then actually not minding having to use windows for a few weeks because it was actually a fun to use product.
It took me about 3 weeks of playing with Gentoo to realize that it completely obviates debian. Gentoo has become my fallback OS until some of the stranger hardware I have gets supported in FreeBSD better.
I have my thoroughbredB 1700+ running at exactly the same speed and it only cost me 45 bucks. It DID require a boost to 1.75 volts from the stock 1.5 and a thermalright slk-800 + 120mm fan though:)
Dude, I am ten times beyond sorry. The only thing it did in mozilla was play the flash. I'm modify it so I can annoy republicans without making their redhat boxes freeze. Once again, I'm very sorry.
I bought a line6 over a marshall about 3.2 seconds after pluging into one. It's also nice not having to redo your tube bias if you accidentally knock the thing. It's great for touring. If you play guitar, you have to try one of the line6 amps out. Also, it's got really cool blinking lights.

It all makes sense now! They need to make this new wonder drug as expensive as possible to protect us. I'm sure that's exactly what they were thinking too. The though of making a huge ass profit didn't factor in at all. What a bunch of nice guys.
You know full well I wasn't suggesting they just GIVE them away. But for christ sakes, you have to agree that the money is in treating the disease, not curing it. They know that, we know that, and you have to know that. The current business model involves sucking every last dollar out of a new wonder medicine and inflating the cost no matter how many people die because they can't pony up the sheckles.
About these pharmaceutical companies that are more than willing to sell off their discoveries to the highest bidder instead of doing what's right for humanity. I mean, for christ sakes. How vampirical is it to put profit about human lives? I think Chris Rock said something to the effect that we haven't cured a disease in 50 some odd years, but we used to do it twice a week. It's really sad.
Because if nVidia stuff is still faster on linux, this entire story doesn't mean much to me. I'm serious. Is anyone getting really great 3d on Linux with an ATI products? I'm looking for faster than geforce3 ti500 speed. If you are, how? XFree DRI? Commercial ATI drivers? How good is the 3d support for ATI cards on Linux at the moment, and how stable are the drivers? If ATI is faster than nVidia stuff on Linux right now, I'd seriously consider switching camps. Thank In Advance!

Congrats. They can spam you at will because they have your permission to do so until the end of time unless you notify them otherwise which it doesn't seem you have done.
this might end up being catagorized as SPAM, and as such
In what alternate reality? You gave them permission. See point above.
Microsoft may end up with one hell of a penalty... I'm of the opinion, that they are simply trying to cover their asses, since it's rather easy to claim what they sent is spam from one of the "I hate Microsoft" zealots, and real difficult for Microsoft to provide hard evidence that says, "Here, you opted in to be on your mailing list back in 1998"... See the potential problem to be screwed over by ANTI-MICROSOFT activists?
Ok, I see you trying very hard here to say something negative about the honest hardworking people that generally just don't like the way Microsoft does business, but it just doesn't fly. You can't connect a pointless "whatif" that has no merit to "anti-microsoft zealots" without being a zealot yourself. Nice try though.
It's not a plot to give Microsoft control over bulk unsolicited email distribution, it's just some lawyers and accountants going... HOLY CRAP! We need damage control, and we need it NOW!:P
Actually, it does appear to be a shifty play to give microsoft control over bulk email distribution. At least, the state of washington seems to think it's a little fishy and it is kinda up to them so I'm more inclined to believe the state and lawmakers that made the bill over an increasingly greedy and untrustworthy corporation that has been declared a monopoly in the highest court in the land, and one of it's misguided fans. No disrespect intended.
Doppler weather radar works for wind speed and direction pretty much always because there is always enough reflective material in the air no matter how much water vapor is present. It works across a "volume coverage pattern" that is made up of many "cones" made through repeated 360 degree scans at varying angles. This is how you can nail with extreme accuracy what distance and height air is moving at what speed and direction. Granted, I'm basing this on real world experience as a certified Unit Control Position administrator on the WSR-88D NexRAD doppler weather radar for 3 years.:) I'm considering this radar as it's the one that is in place at most official reporting stations. The military loves the thing. You were close though.
The weather channel gets their data from hourly observations taken by weather observers. Every hour on the hour, everywhere around the world, weather observers all go outside at roughly the same time and measure temp, dewpoint, wind direction and speed, cloud coverage, ceiling, etc. and put it into an "observation" that is sent to one of the weather hubs. Then big computers generate surface charts. Other big computers run analysis on that data and spit out forcast models. Those models are then sent out to people that want them. There are usually really lame errors like weather fronts being truncated or way off. The "forecaster" then modifies these projected models and incorporates then into his forecast, then sents his forecast for his area back out to the big computers. The weather channel then pays to steal that forecast information from the big computer, and put it on their screen doing little to no actual work in the process. They also buy their pretty satellite images from someone like kavouris probably. Weather balloons, along with PIREPS or "Pilot Reports" fill in some of the blanks in the upper atmosphere and over the oceans, but I'd hazard to guess that doppler radar technology that allows you to know wind direction and speed at a great distance away and great altitude is slowly filling at least part of that.
It now seems appropriate to mention....

Seriously. I mean, this is a story in business week predicting their demise basically. How can you stop a compeditor that doesn't have bills to pay, or debt? I mean, I was worried back in the day. I was sure they'd come up with some way of simply taking advantage of strong political ties to make Linux essentially illegal. That doesn't even matter anymore. Money is getting invested. Huge companies are in. I used to flat out laugh at the "world domination" types on here because it just sounded so silly. My argument was always, who cares about the rest of the world. How can they stop something free? It's turning out to be their achilles heel. Microsoft can't buy Linux out. Microsoft is moving too slowly to make something that can compete on cost. They've spent a fortune on trying to market their way out of this inevitable approaching death, and people just don't buy it anymore. I'm not saying that Microsoft will fade into the distance. That's just not realistic. But they will have to give up the childish name calling and get onboard at some point. The sooner they realize they need to give up the server market and embrace Linux as much as they can, the less money they'll bleed down the road. If they don't, they'll lose the server market within a short time, then they'll slowly lose the desktop market. It's all right there in that article. It's what I see. I can't be the only one. Imagine all the PHB's reading that going "wow, that geeky guy telling me about Linux years ago was right. We need Linux now". I don't even feel silly saying that. I would have a year ago. Scott McNeilly in a Penguin suit speaks volumes. It's only a matter of time now.
