I'm not saying that a tsunami wouldn't be bad news for the East Coast I'm just saying that it's less likely to cause the mass damage than pacific and Indian tsunamis for one simple reason. On the East Coast the continental shelf extends fair far out and would rob an approaching wave of much of its energy.
Well, you probably won't like the answer but I have it on good authority that in case of emergency, (i.e. the Govt. really enforcing anti-trust laws) the buildings on the MS campus will transform into giant robots, march on Washington D.C. and install Bill Gates as our new overlord.
I for one hope these robots aren't made from surplus military hardware, that's been "cleared" for civilian use. Kung fu robots + evil military chips = killfest 03.
How about a bike. Faster than walking and we already have the infrastructure to get you anywhere you want to go. Once you've biked 200+ miles in a single day you'll start to believe in the bicycle as an alternative form of transportation.
Shortwave is cool, precisely because you donâ(TM)t have to be tethered to your computer. You can take shortwave radios anywhere. My smallest SW radio is about the size of a deck of cards, and Iâ(TM)ve taken to some of the most desolate, deserted places you can imagine. Thereâ(TM)s something comforting that after a hard day of hiking in the high desert or some Smokey Mountain cove I could flip a dial and hear, âoeFrom London, this is the BBC.â
Is that it's digital. It's either on or off. With my analog shortwave set disruptions to the ionspehere may create very staticly barely useable signals but I fear with digital I will get that horrible cell phone on-off dropping effect.
The great thing about analog is that even in horrible conditions if your willing to ignore the noise you can still get a useable signal.
Oh and by the way shortwave rules. You haven't had fun until you've tuned Radio Tirana.
Here's the thing. Corporations are required to retain applications for employment, not resumes. There is a difference. Applications are like contracts, in fact if you read the back of yours it probably said that if you lied on this we can fire you. If the writer of this article had just picked up the phone and called the EEOC he could have saved a lot of time and there would be one less topic on/. today.

No joke. I interviewed with HP a few years ago and when I made a casual comment about how my old laserjet just kept going and going, the guy interviewing me started ranting about how those old printers were ruining HP's business. He said that if the engineers had done their job right those older printers would only have lasted for two product cycles. Sheesh.
Reed believes that as more and more of radio's basic signal-processing functions are defined in software, rather than etched into hardware, radios will be able to adapt as conditions change, even after they are in use. Reed sees a world of "polite" radios that will negotiate new conversational protocols and ask for assistance from their radio peers.
Oh. great I can see it now, radio software crashes right in the middle of my favorite program. No thanks I'll stick with my crystal set.
As others have pointed out the article only says that digital beats film for digital display. I've seen 35mm negatives blown up to 40x32 and still look acceptable. Medium format can go far past that and large format, well I suggest you check out this site. If your serious about making lasting memories or interested in making photos you can display film is still far ahead of digital. On the other hand if all of your pictures are going to be displayed on a 14" monitor digital maybe for you.
As a native of Atlanta I just love seeing local shops featured on your show. How has the fame that come along with Good Eats sucess changed your life? Can you eat at a restaurant in peace? Do you find every food supplier in town lobbying to appear on your show?
Anyone else notice the big DARPA logo. Let's see attach the torso to some tank style treads and those fingers are perfect for firing an M16. Ladies and gentlemen the solider of the future.
The author seems far to concerned with the liberating aspects of technology and not the far more serious ways government in using technology to limit our privacy. I live in a major American city and there are government cameras everywhere. Didn't Orwell predict TVs through which the government could monitor activity. Look no further than your computer, with the Patriot Act the gov't can easily find out what you've been doing online. How long before they gain the abilty to remotely activate your quickcam and microphone remotely?
Proof I shouldn't post and eat at the same time. That should read the the... "that the EULA by forbiding reselling of a product helps maintain price discrimination."

They leave open the 40,000 spam purveyors with servers in China.
How many pounds in a gallon.
Can anyone in Cinci report an increase in HF interference?
If Phillip Morris starts selling tomatos, I'm not buying.

Turned into the Hulk.
Ain't he unglamo-rays!
Wreckin' the town
With the power of a bull,
Ain't no monster clown
Who is that lovable?

Maybe Smashmouth could do it.
That carrier vehicle looks pretty fragile for re-entry purposes. Any guesses as to it's composition.

My wife wants to know who is W.

They're always being chased by the cylons.
No way. Remember the first thing Lucky Buck did on arriving in the 25th century was to reintroduce disco.
