Remember when looking at any global warming predicition, these are the same models used to predict your local extended forecast. Considering they can't reliably predict 10 days out, how much credit can you really give a prediction years out?

While the Earth's temperature may be rising, it has done that in the past before man even existed. Are we the cause this time? Noone can truly say for sure, and even *IF* we are, is it a bad thing? Looking at the geological history of the Earth, we are overdue for another ice age.

Now this isn't to say that we shouldn't be looking at alternate energy sources, because we should be. For national security reasons if nothing else. Being dependent on a foreign countries for fuel is not wise, especially when there are many in those countries that would like to see us dead.

I've also seen the hd tests fail to spot a hard drive that was bad too. I spent over a week on one of them trying to figure out why it kept having problems. Since it was in my possession, I didn't have to worry out the cleaning crew causing the problem (see this story under neat idea..)

According to surveys (see article) the average college graduate makes $17,000 more per year than the average high school graduate...

The numbers appear to show that, but what I've seen (and experienced) make those numbers really questionable. I've got both a B.S. and Master's degree in chemical engineering, but have never been able to find employement in that field. A lot depends on when you graduate. In the chem eng field (I've been told geology is the same), companies only hire 0 years experience straight from college. If you graduate during the wrong time in the economic cycle, your degree is essentially worthless. When I got my B.S., only 6 out of 22 in my graduating class had any job offers. My Master's (I was hoping to hit a better time) wasn't any better.

I did the environmental work for a while (until the bottom fell out of that market) and during one seminar I attended, the lecturer read off the results of such a salary survey and asked if anyone knew someone making those numbers. No hands went up, but he got plenty of laughs.

Personally, I've always wondered about those college degrees earn more on average statements. I don't think it's necessarily the college degree, but the person. The type of person with the qualities (personality, intelligence, willingness to work hard) needed to get a college degree would probably be more successful on average than a person without those qualities regardless of whether or not he/she got a degree.

My knowledge (indirect) says yes it is. I remember watching a special (on Discovery Channel I think) called "Come Home Alive". One episode was about a medical student (who looked Indian to me) and his wife (moved from India when was about 6) and how, despite looking the same, were abused at every opportunity.

They had their water and electric cut off for a while, simply because they were Americans. When he was kidnapped, the police helped the kidnappers. Apparently the police in India are paid rather poorly and bribes are done pretty much openly. Indian lawyers hired by his family to help him charged his family American rates, not the local rates.

He (and his family) eventually bribed some people to help him escape, and fled back to the US. He has no desire to ever go back. This is not to say all Indians are bad. His Indian roommate (after his wife had it with the abuse and moved back to the US) did what he could to help him and it was his wife's uncle that was the getaway driver.

There are differences. Americans are not liked in many parts of the world.
