    Keep in mind that that only includes DVDs. HD-DVD will, of course, be available in the future.

    The article linked http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bliq-bush.ht m claims Lovenstein Institute research (which is not to say that said research or the reference isn't biased) estimates Jr's IQ to be 91. For comparison O'Reagan's IQ was estimated to be 105 and FDR was 147.

    HDTV will be locked down so hard that building your own DVR will be difficult at best. Thanks to DMCA, attempt to bypass any of the DRM could potentially land your ass in jail. In summary, once analog TV comes to an end, we're all pretty screwed.

    If the rest of the world didn't like SONY's game, SONY would just take their ball and go home.
    This really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone; Sony exhabited the exact same behavior all the way back to Beta days. When it finally conceded defeat and released VHS decks, it still outpriced them comparing to other competitors.

    I've often thought that lawyers are at the top of human food chain (at least in the US,) since no one is immune to lawsuits. To even defend oneself against such, one needs a lawyer. Regardless of merit or outcome, lawyers win, always.

    Despite what misgiving people may have about tivo, it's be around for some time and is generally considered "stable." Cable companies that has been producing their own DVR probably discovered that it will cost them less to license software from tivo than hiring a crew to develope and maintain their own.

    This is nonenforcable.

    Think harder. It'll be another law in the book that can be used to harass people when "deemed necessary." Keep in mind that prosecutors loves to say things like "suspect is believed to be in violation of (insert a number) of federal/state statues."
