According to Chinese Govt Stats for 2001, farmers on the average makes about 300 US$ a year and city folks about 600 US$. Let's assumed those numbers doubled in the past three years, that's still only $600 and $1200 respectively. So HP is going to sell their $400 computers to... who?
Some years ago when I was working for a certain SCSI RAID HBA company (that shall be referred to as company M) we were shock to find out a certain OTHER company (that shall be referred to company D) is advertising that their SCSI RAID HBA out performs ours by substantial margine in LARGE BOLD letters.
When we took a closer look at the disclosure (in fine print) it states: Company M HBA tested in single threaded mode (READ: Tag Queuing Disable.)
That's when I lost all respect for marketing people...
My observation is that Japanese companies tend to use their domestic market as their paying beta testers. What this means is that the latest gears will go through revisions/improvements base on domestic market feedback before being unleashed on North America. The gest of it is that we'll always be a year or two slower than Japanese domestic market.
He's referring to former Taiwan President Lee claiming to be Japanese. His actual claim was taken out of context however. The claim in question was that he was a Japanese citizen before end of World War II, which is an accurate statement; all Taiwan citizen during Japanese "occupation" (Ching (sp?) dynasty ceded Taiwan to Japan after losing in one of long list of conflicts lost in the late 19th century) were considered Japanese citizen.
"We are looking at reclassifying some jobs to overtime eligible in the new Fiscal Year," Reuff informs staff in the memo. "We have resisted this in the past, not because we don't want to pay overtime, but because we believe that the wage and hour laws have not kept pace with the kind of work done at technology companies, the kind of employees those companies attract and the kind of compensation packages their employees prefer."
"We consider our artists to be creative people and our engineers to be skilled professionals who relish flexibility but others use the outdated wage and hour laws to argue in favor of a workforce that is paid hourly like more traditional industries and
conforming to set schedules," he continues. "But we can't wait for the legislative process to catch up so we're forced to look at making some changes to exempt and non-exempt classifications."
My own translation:
Because the the law did not said we have to, we did not feel compelled to do. In the interest of minimizing legal liabilities, we will, only because our hands were forced by lawyers and bad press.
I've thought (sterotypically) that old Eastern block countries are backward and generally lawless (everything is for sale.) So ASS-U-ME'ing the thieves are from one of "those" countries, what's to prevent one of these companies that had their code "stolen" to put out a contract on those thieves? Once the word gets out, I think it would be a much more effective deterrant than say... a couple years in jail.
The FTC is trying to enforce a law that hasn't even passed', referring to the proposed anti-spyware legislation currently in Congress.
But weren't spammers EXPERTS in complying with proposed laws? I recall the frequent references in spams of how it is in compliance with some bogus bills that were never passed...
I find it amusing and aggrivating that TWO MONTHS after "250MB account" roll out, I still DON'T have it. But within TWO DAYS after announcing termination of support for Outlook/Express, they cut off my Outlook Express access to a Hotmail account I have had since 1998.
To think that Karateka ran VERY WELL on machines with 64k DRAM (UMA, frame buffer only) and 1MHz 8 bit processor really boggles the mind. Kind of makes one wonder what the minimum system requirement for a remake would be...?
By the very nature of the system, the blame can fall on no one other than the maintenance personnel. Otherwise the PHB that authorize the "upgrade," and the system that put the said PHB in the position to authorize said "upgrade" would look incompentent and foolish, and we can't very well have that.

Otherwise for every spammer ... removed, there will be ten new spammers to take its' place.
Most important question of all, can it be patched to RPC-1?
Crackers, people. Not Hackers.

They're not suing (yet?) to suppress the information.
