Sounds far fetched, but this particular attitude in governments of far eastern countries is NOT uncommon. Typically the officials involved are more afraid that "sh*t happened on his/her watch" than the potentially devastating effect of the disease on the general population. The SARS epidemic is a clear example of this mentality. The last doctor spoke out against the ostridge mentality on recurring SARS infections in China was placed under house arrest. Really doesn't inspire confidence in human being as a specie...
"It can't be reasoned with, it can't be bargained with... it doesn't feel pity or remorse or fear... and it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead."
Some five or six years ago one particular independent software publisher (that shall remain nameless) released a piece of software, where if a serial number generated by "keygen" is entered, it erases system32 directory of windows 9x system it is installed on.
After been alerted such action is illegal, he released additional version of the said software with the deletion code removed.
In criminal cases, the interest of freedom should be representated by an independant counter-prosector. The defendant should speak for himself or not as he chooses. But every defendant should have the same counter-prosecutor.
Minor problem; prosecutors are lawyers too, your would-be counter-prosecutors are lawyers too.
Just because you lay down laws againsts certain behaviors doesn't mean the people will obey the said laws. 419 scams, phishing are all illegal in most countries, but that has never stopped any of the scammers...

I find it ridiculous that the universities themselves are paying anything to the scumbags. How can anyone even consider the possibility that random schools have anything to do with their students actions, much less have legal responsibility for those actions?
"Because it makes the problem go-away for a what amounts to a 'small' fee that they'll pass onto the students."
What's more likely to happen is to permit "restrictive copying" and use the same heavy handed tactics the moment a "licensee" deviates from the said "restrictive copying."
Make no mistake, the corporate entity's sole purpose of existence is to milk their custom.. ahm, licensees for every penny they can get.
What makes you think FCC regulations will stop spammers now? There are so many things peddled by spammers that are illegal in MOST COUNTRIES, but being illegal never stopped them before.
What can UN do? Threaten spammers with weapons embargo? Economic sanction? In the matter of spam, I can't see what UN has to offer that can possibily be effective.

Quick overview: RAID 5 - Requires at least 3 HDs (many times implemented with 5 - can be used with up to 24 I believe).
I don't believe the actual standard restrict the number of members a RAID 5 array can have, although generally each additional drive beyond 8 gives you diminished return.
Data is not mirrored but can be reconstructed after drive failure using the remaining disks and the parity data (very similiar to how PAR files can reconstruct damaged/missing RAR files for the Newsgroup pirates out there). % of total space available dependent on number of drives used.
Data is XOR'ed across all members - 1, and result "parity" deposited in one of the members, the following is one example...
Good deal, ONLY if the manufacturors are being honest with drive spec. Several coworkers that used to work for Quantum have indicate that the actual drive mechanism used in SCSI and ATA drives frequently shares common mechanical parts (platters, spindle motors, etc.) Their differences are ENTIRELY artifical. SCSI drive spec at times looked "better" in part because of the firmware difference and cheating on SPEC; for instance seek time for SCSI drive are computed differently to create the illusion that somehow SCSI drives seek faster...

I read somewhere (sorry, it's been a long time) that maps of varies soviet cities were downright inaccurate for "security reasons."
However, that does not preclude RIAA launching a barrage of legal actions anyway and force him to either concede defeat or face financial ruin.
