    Also, we have all these applications that allow us to make really professional looking documents. Sometimes I print stuff I create just because it looks so cool!

    I ran one of those very early C-Net BBS's when I was in my mid-teens. I even went to a gathering of Sysops up in Michigan at the house of one of the developers.

    Great times and plenty to learn. And to think that now I'm paid to do basically the same thing.

    I've been lucky, at least in that respect.

  5. As someone originally from Baton Rouge, I can tell you a large part of the problem is that the area is being built up so much that the natural runoff ability has been greatly disrupted.

    How many programmers need to write a compiler?

    I would bet that the large majority of programmers out there are doing data manipulation and fairly simple GUIs, be they web based or some other toolkit.
