  1. Sold my Wii on Is There a Future For Mature Games On Wii? · · Score: 2, Interesting

    Too little too late.
I bought a Wii a few months after release, hooked it up, played Wii sports and thought "this is cool".
A month later I sold the Wii because of the following.
    1) Horrible Graphics compared to the XBOX 360 I had at the time (got a PS3 now).
    2) Games were fun to play with others but for some reason I couldn't find that many people to play with at 1 AM.
    3) No good singleplayer titles that I could play online.

To be honest, the XBOX 360 was better then the Wii in every aspect except social gaming, and although my girlfriend would play sometimes, in the month I had the Wii, after the first week, I hardly ever turned it on.

Finally, the majority of people I know who like console gaming who have a Wii, also have either the XBOX 360 or a PS3.
Nintendo did find a nice segment and are not competing with the other consoles as much as MSoft and Sony are competing with eachother, but I have to agree with TFA, that segment does not include many single-player online gamers.

Now back to COD 4 on the PS3, feel the wrath of my P90!

Yes because Australians are paying other countries for their tax-funded inventions right?

Taking this path is scary, I think it's the wrong move and I hope it will come back and bite the aussies in the behind.
You are happily using inventions (many of them medical saving Australian lives) created by tax-money in other countries yet when you have such an invention you want money for it. Where is the fairness in that?

I seriously doubt e-mail is being replaced anytime soon. There are a lot of companies having issues with in-the-cloud spam filtering for email, I just cannot see them accepting the loss of control of their data by moving to Google Wave.

Hacking or modding any of the consoles you listed will allow you to run copied games. You can see why the companies making the console (and apart from Wii selling the consoles at a loss) doesn't like the modding. However, you can't really claim that you are selling a TI calculator at a loss hoping to make the additional money from software sales, nor can you really claim that hacking the calculator makes you loose any money.

Say what you will about homebrews etc, I think the vast majority who has a chipped Wii is using it to play copied games. I don't think the vast majority of TI calculator owners use it to pirate anything.

You cant say "will lack essential features" when you dont know what will be in there or what people who will actually use this version requires. Personally I think they are happy enough being able to read word docs and write the occasional one-pager.

I very much doubt it will look "junky". Hate Microsoft all you want but you cannot deny that a lot of their success has to do with their "eye-candy". Perhaps companies like Apple have passed them with both looks and usability, but I still doubt Microsoft will release an office version that looks "junky". Again you say this like it was true but you have no proof, not even a screenshot, of what it would look like.

I think this is a good move by Microsoft and I also think they should have done this a long time ago.

Pricing is an issue with Digital Downloads though, the supplier won't be left with an excessive stock of games they have to get rid of for a low price. The benefit of physical media is, for the consumer at least, the price dumping that sometimes happen.
Another example, especially in these times, are shops that are closing down and selling their stock for really low prices.

I wanted to buy GTA IV for the PC just a few days ago, and looked at steam, they charged 50 euros for it which is the RRP.
Shops are charging around 25 euros for it, and talking to some of the local shops they are saying they dumped the price because it didn't sell as well as they thought it would.

On the flip-side, after re-installing my PC I installed the steam client and started an installation on all the games I have bought from there, and left it running over-night. Next morning when I woke up and all the games were nicely installed, patched and completely up-to-date.
