Why should this not a priority? As a software vendor based in Canada who makes his living selling software, I welcome this.

Seriously, what part of illegal are you having trouble with here? They found a bunch of sites where people were provding illegal copies of software and they shut them down. They did their jobs, and I am happy about it.

The pressure from inside Canada to do their jobs should be enough, without having to retreat into some sort of paranoid scenario about pressure from the DMCA, MPAA, RIAA and other four letter acronyms that seem to be hotbuttons for the slashdot community.

The scariest scenes in Alien (and other horror movies) take place in tight narrow hallways and crawlspaces for some of the same reasons.

Ah yes, because what the Internet really needs is MORE central regulation!

Seriously, considering the USPTO's stellar record, what makes you think thats a decent model for dealing with such problems. Do you really think adding extra layers to the domain application process is going to make this better?

If I want to register ilovecanadianbeavers.com should I have to submit a business case first? Will I have to prove that I am not making porn? Or is porn okay, as long as its the right type of porn? Will www.fuckgoogle.com still be okay?

Only one way to find out I guess. Please wait 4-6 weeks for domain approval.

Is this what you really want?

Seems less appealing now, does'nt it. Darwinism is nothing more than one of the mechanisms by which the mystery of so called intelligent design is explained. It is not a guide to social well being.

Makes perfect sense. Most times the definitive frames for a shot are stored on a remote server. Most production pipelines involve creating local low resolution proxies to work with - to avoid placing too much strain on the main fileserver, and to prevent saturation of the network.

The bigger your pipe, the fewer proxies you need, the larger the frames you can get from the server, and the less complexity in your pipeline over all.

This happened to me when I was 20. (Nearly 16 years ago).

I met an incredibly hot woman at a club. We hung out a couple of times, then hooked up. She ended up crashing at my apartment most nights for well over a week.

Then one day there is a knock on the door - and when I open it there are two police and her father art my entrance. Seems that 'Angela' was only 15 (in fairness 16 in less than a month) and hadn't been home (or school) in well over two weeks.

She had seemed a bit immature, but no more so than many of the people in my class at university. I can assure you she didn't look 15.

Her father was furious, and the police were obligated to press charges. I am fortunate to have a very good lawyer in the family, so my costs were not as severe as the friend in your story.

Nevertheless it took about a year. A key element in my defense was that I had been introduced to her in a bar, and that I had met her there repeatably before any congress had occured between us. (Ontario drinking age is 19)

In the end I was aquitted, on the basis that she had willfully and sucessfully masked her age from me.

In hindsight, I can recall a hundred things that should have tipped me off to the problem with this girl. No one was serious enough to really get me cautious, and by then the little head was doing all the thinking.

Am I a sex offender? If I had been convicted, it looks like I might have been in some states.
