I've been reading the Fate of the Jedi series lately and its been enjoyable. Its pretty long-winded though which leads you to wonder how much of a cash-in it is that it is planned at 9 books.
I also fondly remember reading the Zahn books around when they came out. I was much younger then and I re-read them about a year and a half ago. They're still pretty good and got me back into the rest of the SW books.
People still go to digg? Oh, I see what you did there.
I actually went to Digg this morning since Reddit is down. I haven't been in months since I removed them from my RSS reader. All I have to say is "ouch". Front page stories with a whopping 5 comments? Its pretty sad.
They need to work on having some actual selection in who to follow. I'm not too far removed from music that normal people listen to and I couldn't find a single person to follow. Sorry, I don't want to follow U2 or Lady Gaga, but I would expect some tacit groups for classics like Metallica. I'm sure its all about contracts with record companies, but its DOA right now.
I dislike info sharing as much as the next/.-er, but I really would love a place to have the bands that I like listed to get reccos and updates.
Support in an enterprise environment. Enterprise/Professional level software vendors need a base to offer support on and Redhat was the first to be viable in that market. SUSE is kinda there, but Redhat is pretty much the standard when it comes to Linux running high end software packages for businesses.*
*Aside from Z-series/mainframes, but thats a whole other league.
Not to mention MUCH less of a hassle when it comes to boarding, etc. The personable accountability that will be required (minding the gap, being courteous, etc) will take a long time to come, but once its there it could work out well.
I do hope you're right. I get sick as all living hell just waiting for the thing to load the menu at the beginning. The puking doesn't start until around 30 minutes of playing though, so I can get some in before I go to sleep. If I don't sleep afterwards, I have a headache all day.
Yeah, it sucks a bit too much and I feel the parent post's pain. Literally.
Seriously, why? What do you gain with adding more overhead?
I'm not trying to troll. I just want to know why anyone would do this for performance? I understand things like VMWare that allow multiple virtual machines on one physical machine, but why add Linux onto Linux "to run other stuff"?
I know this is setting me up for a'Floggin', but does it integrate with MS Exchange? The only thing keeping me in Windows on my work PC is the need for a calendar system that works with the company's Exchange system.
I've looked at the site, but can't see any mention of it.
Apparently the connection is through SBC Yahoo! DSL.
I recently got DSL through my phone provider (SBC) and am torn on if I like it or not. The CD they send with it has spyware, its own browser, and all sorts of nasty things that WILL bring your system to a crawl easily. Sure Windows doesn't do very well, but a provider's CD like SBC Yahoo's does not help at all.
Hooking it into my Linux box with rp-pppoe was nice though - and the speed is impressive.
If it makes you feel any better, I'm in the exact same boat and the load times are driving me over to the Gamecube more and more. I did see a picture of a Silver slim PS2, so I'd buy that to go with the Platium Gamecube.
To get the books you could also write a letter to the state legislature every day for a few years. I hear that apparently Maine will give up after only a few years.
I'm not sure what these "high end" machines were. I have the problem (intermittantly and only for a few seconds, but it does happen) on my Athlon 64 3200+, 1G PC3200, Nvidia 6800, etc. I know its not the "latest" with PCI express, etc out, but I'd still call it "high end".
I guess if I had a 4.0ghz overclocked, watercooled system with a 512 meg 6800 Ultra PCI express (do they even exist yet?) I'd be smooth, but for now I'm mostly smooth.
You think it'll work? It'll take a miracle (or longer load-times upfront).
That is the root question though - how did this bug get through QA? Its fairly annoying and beyond that takes away from the "immersion" you have during gameplay.
The company needs to actually survive for 5 years in your scenario. IBM has many other money-sources to keep it afloat while it waits to recoup their losses (though they don't, but thats out of the scope of this comment). Yes it would seem stupid, but it takes time for changes to happen and I really don't think their online music store will keep them around long enough.
My name is hyphenated, and its very aggrivating when people just stop at the hyphen. No, I do not go by my first and middle name - my first name is two words that are hypenated and I go by that name. I'm somewhat OK with initials, but leaving off half my name if you don't know me is unacceptable.
Getting all things correct is almost impossible because people make assumptions. If my name were John-Michael I would always be called John and there are some people who don't seem to know what a hyphen is in the first place. My social security card is different from my Drivers license and *some* of my credit cards. It really is a mess, so I feel your pain.
Just be glad you don't have a hyphen.
Though I did always want to sue standardized test makers for discriminating against those of us with hypens in our name...

A lot of small and mid-sized customers are switching too ;)

... but then you would have to use Lotus Notes. Haven't there been enough employee losses in this market without forcing people to commit suicide?
Notes is never an option, unless you are IBM and/or a sadist. I hope their Linux client is better than the packaged-with-wine hack-fest it was before.

No, that phrase is never appropriate.
Lame =).
The same also goes for "The Yellow Rose of Texas".
Can you tell where I went to high school? *ducks*
Support, support, support...
At least they are all much better than the APPRO 4-ways (and the other copies of the AMD reference platform).
Yes, we have a V40z at work, so I'm a bit biased...
I can see it now:
"This call has been brought to you by *sponsor*. Enjoy *spondor*'s *product* today! Now back to your phone call"
*Ring*
"Hello..."

You'll need to protect your personal information tht Sony phones home to their central servers when it detects a wireless hotspot.
Now where is my tinfoil hat.... Oh yeah, its on my head.
Thanks for the linkage. I'm not usually under a rock or anything, but it must have flown under my radar.
I'm somewhere in the middle =).
Am I the only one to see this slick-looking thing come out of nowhere with a "preview" that is on their website only and be skeptical?
Someone could easily put some spy-bot zombie code into their default kernel code, hi-jack another distro, and put out some press on their own website.
Of course this is all about the tin-foil hat that I have on, but there is something about this post/distro that is unsettling.
Otherwise its just another distro that will fail.
Ho Hum...
How great is it that you used "script-kiddie" as a verb. Very nice...

And how much, at that time, would you have payed for that 486 system?
Yeah, today is looking a little more accurate, eh?
