    Not really sure if it failed or not. It went off the stock market (got completely bought out by a huge company). The question is whether it got bought out dirt cheap or not, anyone know? I am pretty confident it failed with respect to all the money that was invested in it its dotcom days, but I'm not sure.

    I can't say for certain in your area but for the most part broadcasters aren't running their digital stations at full power. When analog goes off presumably they will be.

    Mod it and you can change one little byte in the dvd player to allow progressive output. Why this wasn't enabled by default is unfathomable.

    Yes the signals are compressed in a lossy way, but that doesn't mean it isn't higher quality. Would you rather look at a 1MB uncompressed bitmap or a .5MB JPEG. I garuntee the JPEG contains a lot more useful information to the human eye.

    The difference is the governments aren't funding those people! Oh wait, Governments around the world routinely do things like that. In fact local governments often put a lot of money into funding symphonies etc.--without that funding the "Classical Labels" who are complaining in this case would have a much crappier talent pool to pick from. This same issue came up when some town was releasing its GIS data a while back... I don't see how it is even an issue if it has already been paid for (as with that data and these performances).

    However Apple's share of their PowerPC market is HUGE (not their Power market), this isn't apple dictating IBM's total marketing in all areas, this is apple dictating it in one specific area in which they are by far the primary customer. I still disagree with the parent poster but your reasons don't refute anything.

    What?!? Why would 3% for intel be easier than for AMD? That makes no amount of sense, not even 3%. Even more vexxing is why would an increase that required 3% more out of AMD require %3 more out of intel, who is much larger. Your whole point would make sense if you said "x additional volume is 3% more for AMD but it is only a mere .5% for intel, a drop in the bucket."

    Unless the download page uses your useragent this could be a powerful tool for recruiting new people to firefox. Someone here's the googlebar is great and blocks pop-ups, they go to Google's site to get it and they see two versions, one for IE, one for firefox. What's firefox? *clicks the little download firefox icon which google has placed next to their toolbar download*

    Actually the monkey jumps as part of an evolution designed to dwindle the number of its predators (in this case lions). By making it's corpse unavailable for the lion to feed on it is sort of a cruel trade-off. Humans jumping out of burning buildings just want the least painful way out.

    Well I have another example of uniquely human behavior: filming a fake documentary on another species in which you make that species appear to commit suicide in the wild. I bet no lemmings ever did that (in addition to never commiting suicide).

    That came off wrong, I meant "publically available" rather than "widely known to the public." Regardless the details in this case are pretty sparse and we don't even know if he discovered the vulnerability by toying with inputs to the sites or by examining the source code.

    What's the mechanical means to tell if I am floating in deep space or falling down a liftshaft (in a vacuum, obviously ;-).


    That is a case of two accelerations cancling out, if you consider the force of gravity an acelleration (it was shown to be indistinguishable by Einstein in the General Relativity paper and is part of the way he derived E=mc^2).
