Me too!. I've set a community web site with mambo and it was really easy. The best thing about mambo is that once setup everything can be done from the web browser. I was put off from Drupal when I read that modules required to be compiled . (Is that right?)
I have heard however that Drupal is faster due to its page cacheing mechanism. I've also tried XOOP but I did not like the themes upload mechanism. Again with mambo its pretty easy. With XOOP you have to manually copy files.
The only thing I do not like about mambo is its user access granularity, but I think they are working on that for release 5.0
So far De Beers have been very good in identifying artificial diamods from "natural". Also a lot of artificial manufacturers will mark there diamonds as such.
De Beer's have been pushing for some time the idea that natural gemstones are the only ones for jewellery and I am sure people with larger bank accounts than brain cells will take that one in. To me a diamond is just a intresting carbon crystal with a lot of potential applications, but then again to me a Rolex is just a watch which does'nt keep time quite as well as my $20 Quartz variety, so what do I know...
Whether Maureen O'Gara acted under direction from SCO and company, or whether she is just a biased journalist, remains to be seen.
Nothing is that simple. Obviously O'Gara works on the edges of the computer world trying to get scoops(The word vulture seems strangely appropiate).
She has obviosly thought that by ingratiating herself with SCO she will have a front seat in the fight. It is no coincidence that on the last phone conference SCO announced they had private eyes looking into PJ. A few weeks later MOG gets here scoop. However I doubt she was ever directly paid(although the distinction is marginal)
However she has made two cardinal journalistic mistakes. By getting so close to SCO, she has lost all objectivity to a point that her articles cannot be trusted and also she has allowed it to become personal with PJ.
No good journalist would ever allow those things to happen. In doing so she has lost any respect that others may of had of her. Basically she is now an non-entity.
Ignoring the condecending USA's great, UK backwards attitude(At least our mobiles work everywhere...) the author has my sympathy
I ordered broadband from a company (lets call it pipex). Unfortunately abut 20 minutes after I ordered it I realised that they did not provide everything I required, and another one did. So I went to website and cancelled. Then came 4 weeks of hell.
You see pipex had been a little too efficient. Even though I had paid no money, cancelled in the cooling off period, the order had gone to BT. So I found when joined my provider of choice, they could not connect me since BT said I already had broadband.
After that came a succession of calls to pipex to cancel( Including one to a very surly representative who would not believe I had cancelled before being connected), BT to ask them to intervene(Not our problem sir, talk to your ISP. Aaaagh) My new provider, who were sympathetic, but not much use. They suggested if I transferred my phone account to my wife, the pipex broadband would be removed. WRONG.
In the end it took 4 weeks and threats to refer them to OfTel(The Telephone monopoly ombudsman) before pipex finally removed the service and I could join the new service.
Obviously there is a weakness in the system that only a ISP can remove the broadband, which can be severly abused if they want. BT wholesale cannot be contacted in any way to plead your case. Actually I became convinced they have no telephones.
On the other hand I did get a nice free USB modem from pipex....
Then maybe you are designing to too low a level...
Design documents should describe the problem domain and the suggested solution(and perhaps why other routes were not taken). A break down of the system to a level that an individual engineer can code and a description of external interfaces and API's.
These should not change greatly through the project. If they do then it is a new problem and the design should be restarted.
If you wish to document API's etc use a tool like doxygen, since it is much easier to keep it current with the code
The Earth Revolving around the sun is a theory. Basicly, anything that cannot be directly observed is a theory. Evoultion is Just as well supported as any of the above theories I mentioned(sometimes more so).
Of course the church had a difficult time accepting the Earth revolving around the sun bit(See Galileo Galilei) I had thought we had moved on a bit, but obviously instead of the inquistion we just have trial by media.
I don't think you appreciate why he is doing it. Very rich people, i.e ones with more money than they can possible spend in there life time. get to the point when they start thinking about how history will see them.
By donating large amounts of money to charity they hope to rewrite the history books so future generations will see them as philanthropists. Its the only thing their money has not boughtthem(and until immortality comes on the market in a pill form, it is the only way to achieve it) rather than the ruthless buisness men they really were. Look up Carnegie, Rockerfeller, Getty.
The truth is altruistic people do not become multi billionaires. They do not suddenly have a mid life conversion to nice people. They still look at the world in terms of profit and loss.
If this was'nt the case it would not be the Gates foundation, it would be the third world foundation or anonymous donations to the red cross.
When you judge these things you should not look at the botom line, but at the whole history. If someone robs a bank of 10 million, but gives 5 millionj to charity does that make him a better person?
Therefore I plan to keep only 1 million. How about that for generosity!
Of course I hope by then to have my massive house, yachts, etc. And of course as head of a global corporation I thinks its unlikely I will short of dinner invitations or travel requests or hotels etc, but hey a million does not go as far as it used to
Amen, Whats wrong with you lot. We have just landed a probe on the most distant body yet and got data which scientist will be analysing for years to come.
What were you expecting a framed kodachrome 7x5 with a wish you were here slogan? It was only a few days ago many were doubting it would work at all
I think the photo's are stunning and I look forward to seeing the rest of the data, when NASA/ESA have time to release it. I also hope it will generate a new project to send a dedicated lander/rover since clearly after mars, titan is the most fascinating body in the solar system.
(may I also mention that Huygens was largely a project of the open university, a institution which some misguided souls consider not a "real" university. I do some work for them, and I am happy to take the glory by association)
Tanenbaum talked about the merits and critiqued what he saw as flaws of the Linux system. Torvalds ranted about how much Tanenbaum's project "sucks." What a complete dick.
CHEMISTRY The Coca-Cola Company of Great Britain, for using advanced technology to convert liquid from the River Thames into Dasani, a transparent form of water, which for precautionary reasons has been made unavailable to consumers
Actually I think what they mean is Thames Water which is a public water company. Many water from the river thames drinkable while no means impossible would demand some plaudits.
What they actually did was take public tap water meeting EU regulations, filter it and in the process add harmful impurities which were not in the original product.
It has never been legal to carry firearms in the UK, so I fail to understand the correlation. The law was tightened up after the Dunblane massacre, but there has never been a culture of a gun in every home like the US, so the law affected very few people.
I think the rise in gun incidents are more likely to be due to increased availability via eastern europe and an importation via the US of a gun culture to certain communities.
Saying that gun crime is still very rare, and I would rather have my car stolen than risk being shot by a paranoid neighbour.
Not exactly. I am no expert, but I assume that there can be data maintained on the disk at a level well below what the normal read/write head of a disk can detect, but may be detectable via other more sensitive(albeit slower) methods.
I have installed mandrake 7.1 to 9.1. I have never had any real problems. In fact often I have found it easier to install than windows.
Basically what the guy is saying is that Mandrake had problems configuring some hardware and partioning his NTFS partition. Well scuse me for stating the obvious but thats basically because most PC hardware is designed to work with windows and nothing else! Its amazing that linux works with anything considering the amount of support that is given.
The first rule of a successful installation is that your hardware needs to linux friendly. This is not always easy, and sometimes a pain, but you cannot just buy hardware and expect it to work until manufacturers start recognising there is a linux market out there.
As for NTFS partitions, well its a closed source format, so of course you would have problems. I would suggest the following.
1. Change the partition to FAT32 2. or delete windows all together and just install linux. Problem solved
Also I would like to see him do it the other way round. Try and install to dual boot windows on a linux machine and see how far he gets.
I bought the last Norah Jones CD(I like it, so sue me). I bought it mainly to play on my PC at work so I can listen to something and drown out the inane chatter. Basically its copy protection meant it would not play on the PC. There was nothing on the CD case to indicate the copy protection so as far as I was concerned it was'nt fit for purpose.
So anyway I took it back to the shop the next day and got my money back. However somehow in the intervening time it got ripped on my linux machine.
Now look I am not proud of this, but I tried to play fair. I spent my money and I feel they attempted to rip me off. It should be madatory that all such CD's should indicate on it that they do not play on certain equipment.(Then see what happens to sales)
Anyway the outcome of the copy protection scheme is that they did not get a sale, but I got the CD anyway. Well done music industry!
BAsic it redirects your emails to a email address of choice. What I do is give that one out to people I want to stay in contact with and a another address when joining something. That way I can switch ISP's in the future but not lose contacts.
The only problem with the free service is it does put a limit on the maximum number of emails, but so far I have not hit the limit.

I may still download Drupal and give it a go.

I agree in a way. But I think it should of all been privatised, but the hardware bit made a separate company in which anyone company could use.
At moment the relationship between the BT hardware and sales is to cosy

Its a pity they cannot do a deal with getmapping.com to provide detailed images.
That would rock!

Vxworks do provide a lot of good tools. There windview tool is a must if you want to find performance bottle necks.
People forget embedded development is a lot harder than normal PC based stuff, because it can be difficult to get into the device when its running.
I went to a presentation by wind river on there new tools and despite my sceptsism I was quite impressed.

When I'm worth 30 billion, I will also donate 750 million to my pet charity.
Dammit I will donate 20 billion. I know I will only have 10 billion to keep me in food and shelter, but that is the kind of generous guy I would be...
Also I won't even claim my tax perks from it...

The penguins were developing WMD's

Yeah, the strange thing was it was a much sought after job, since it allowed you unprecendented access to the king.

I used to get PC Pro, but there are only so many VB Script Articles you can read.
Both Linux Magazines tend to cover real programing problems at a reasonable level. Plus the DVD saves me downloading vast amounts of OS software.
