World War 1 is where we saw our first patent problems with radio.
Art is the one thing that should be protected. Why should anyone be able to make money off Mickey Mouse or music than the people who made them?
Only art should be protected:
If you're so smart you can invent something useful the other 9 billion of us haven't thought of, and you can't make money off it... Then maybe you're not really that smart at all.
Greenspan is old. Its a fact. He probably doesn't know how to use email. He obviously can't open his eyes to see patents only benefit multibillion dollar pharmacuetical companies. When I'm making billions of dollars to sell AIDs drugs, I'm not putting a penny into research for a cure, so even though they're reaping tons of cash from patent laws, its not helping us get closer to a cure.
Keep copywrights and trademarks, but eliminate patents.
Lets say you can't patent anything.
This has many good effects:
#1 You have patent lawyers and government officials freed up to do other projects... Say roads and housing the homeless.
#2 Only really really rich corporations win patent suits anyway... So in the current setup, a poor man loses lawsuits vs big corporations anyway. A big corporation can make a product better than a poor man's product anyway.
#3 What, you think you invented something so original, 9 billion other people haven't thought of? What do you think you're some sort of god we need to revere? No, all men pretty much know what's capable to be made, your advantage of thinking of a new product is secretly creating , developing, and slamming it to market before other people do. Thats a huge advantage, and if used correctly, you can keep your market... The only thing a big corporation can do is undercut by selling cheaper than it is to make, and they should get nailed with a lawsuit for that as they already do.
#4 Since the 1900's patents have never helped progress, in fact they've been a stumbling block for development. Radio wasn't invented until world war 1 because different companies all held patents... Its just like that now, only a millionfold worse.
#5 Patents are a joke nowadays anyway... Corporations "shotgun" patents(patent 1000 things, with only 1 being the real one) because they don't want people "stealing and slightly modifying their technique" off the real patent. People are allowed to patent things they can't conceptually make until a new technology rolls around, but when the new tech comes in, it'd be easy to make.
#6 I don't know about you, but I'm not sure how much a multi BILLION dollar pharmacuetical company needs to have its money protected... Why can't another company compete with it, which would help the consumers? Oh and, how much do you think a company is looking for the cure to AIDS when its making billions of dollars off it?
I'm sorry Mr. Greenspan, you're old. You need to open your eyes. Stop looking at your laws, but look at how your laws are interpreted. Stop looking at the theory, and look at what's taking place in the market. If you know anything about economics and a free marketplace, you know corporations operate to make money abusing the "laws and system" you create to their best interest. Now you and congressmen are the men in charge to make newer and better laws. That's your job. I just graduated from Carnegie Mellon University, yet I don't have a job because of the economy.
An electronic still camera comprising a lens, shutter, and exposure control system, a focus and range control circuit, a solid state imaging device incorporating a Charge Coupled Device (CCD) through which an image is focused, a digital control unit through which timing and control of an image for electronic processing is accomplished, an Analog-to-Digital (A/D) converter circuit to convert the analog picture signals into their digital equivalents, a pixel buffer for collecting a complete row of an image's digital equivalent, a frame buffer for collecting all rows of an image's digital equivalent, and a selectively adjustable digital image compression and decompression algorithm that compresses the size of a digital image and selectively formats the compressed digital image to a compatible format for either the IBM Personal Computer and related architectures or the Apple Macintosh PC architecture as selected by the operator so that the digital image can be directly read into most word processing, desktop publishing, and data base software packages including means for executing the appropriate selected decompression algorithm; and a memory input/output interface that provides both temporary storage of the digital image and controls the transmission and interface with a standard Personal Computer (PC) memory storage device such as a digital diskette. The digital diskette is removably inserted into the housing of the camera prior to use in recording digital image data.
Like I could copywright artificial intelligence, use of a computer, memory, and a program to simulate the intelligence of a human.
Just sending that to the patent office would probably get me millions of dollars down the line, how can someone stand up to challenge this? Cuz while I'm not a big fan of corporations, SONY shouldn't have to pay for this.
Don't name your product something that's easily searchable on google. Name it something badass and cool, but something original that hasn't been big... Unless you want to drive down your profits and the profits of another company with the same name.
Programming is a lot like meditation. To get into the meditative state is tough, but once you're there, it keeps itself going.
For me, I can code forever, but I have trouble keeping up the design part. Its just something I have to work on. While designing, I go out of mode too easy.
I wrote most of the popular macros for asheron's Call. I was the first person to write the drain health macro. I wrote a bot that ran around, and parsed text by taking pixel readings from the screen and determining words...
For DAOC, it was way easier, I parsed the.txt log file while it was running took the coorinate readings... Then I could triangulate my current direction and figure if i had to press left or right to change to the next waypoint. Then I'd have a complex series of clicking and looking around to do stuff like fighting the correct monsters, lewting, then selling...
Patrol place for monsters. Path to return to vendors
It was great:) I love coding shit like that. I don't view macroing as cheating... I view hacking stats as cheating... Since macroing is shit you could do behind the keyboard anyway.
I just graduated Carnegie Mellon for scientific computing. Use of computers to help people research cures and stuff... Maybe its the fact people make billions of dollars selling drugs for a disease, they have no real desire for a cure.
I don't know, I just know shits fucked beyond belief.
Who's starting the revolution? I'm willing to die for the cause since I don't have anything to lose.
All you need is it to understand english, and imagine in a 3d space.
Type a sentence like Zork, and it makes the scene for you.
Give it a book, and it could turn it into a movie for you.
Vision recognition has a great many uses already, but when vision recognition matures, you'll be able to take a scene and reduce it into 3d reality space. You take the 3d reality space, and give the computer some goals, and its trying to accomplish something in the world.
Thing is, it won't stop at plain vision, you'll get infared, sonar, ultraviolet, radar, all that crap to get the best 3d image possible.
So since vision is progressing, the gap towards AI is shrinking. Also as video games become more realistic, the AI gap is shrinking. I could be bold and say 15 years from now we should have basic AI.
I'm not sure how many people have used internet explorer... But if you go to the wrong website, not click on anything, simply go there... You can have.exe files on your computer that run. Basically most of the stuff is spyware and 900 numbers that charge you 400$/minute long distance. But if someone wanted, they could totally delete all your files in addition to spying on you. Internet explorer with all the security updates, and you might as well be hog tied while hackers take over your computer.
Where do I look for a job. Carnegie Mellon apparently doesn't offer job placement. I have a degree in scientific computing... Basically making programs for scientific research. I'd like to do genetic research algorithms, but I'd be down for some physics modeling or whatever.
I'll work on this project, as long as I'm given proper rewards if we win. Anyone wanna make a website? I already have the ability to link webcams up to a 3d engine..
Basically all we'd have to do is walk down the course, chart the shit, and do image recognition on the stuff we wanna dodge. Someone wanna make a 40 mph tank, and someone know how to take 5 volt and use it as an on/off switch, and we're good to go.
I'm poor as a mother fuck, but I'm making a game because I got heart. Leave me alone, if your game sucks, you're not gonna make money. My game's gonna be far from sucking, just takes alot of fight to get one done.
A revolution? My ass. I may start a revolution with this fight after I make big cash... Maybe house the homeless, feed the hungry with spare change. Get some work groups set up for people without jobs. But thats only if I make it big.
I just graduated Carnegie Mellon University for scientific computing. I can't get a job doing shit for anyone.
I'm coding my own MMOG because theres millions to be had, but in the meinwhile, I have like 50 cents on my table and 50,000$ in debt.
If other people are bitching for money cuz they're having trouble developing their video game, I should be the first mother fucker who gets it.

I think some of the members from Jackass come from Wilkes-Barre.
The whole of South Western Pennsylvannia has been on a downhill slope since the coal mines closed, and it never recovered.
If you query if a site is blocked, it should return a yes or no.
In this way, they're not spreading porn.
I can't access fark.com now.
Fark.com is a political site, not a child pornography site.
Maybe its not blocked, maybe its just down today.
Does anyone have a link of a site banned by PA, that is non deserving?

Look at how lame a patent is:

Man Anarchy Online was so fun with those talking leets. Yah... leets, the only thing I saw in Anarchy Online, because I couldn't zone.
RubiCon? Wait we're not talking about Eskimos?

It was great
At least for DAOC and Funcom.
One guy auctioned infinate gold on every server during a time where if ANYONE put up an auction they got banned within a day.
I did the math, guy was making over $150,000 a month.

Sounds good in theory, but in practice a few years down the road, people can hack an open system like that.
People can still run programs even if you updated.
