From the article: Are you looking to monetize DNS lookups? No. That base level of DNS (domain name system) response is an obligation we took on when we inherited that contract. But it would be commercially unreasonable for anyone to suggest that we shouldn't be allowed to build incremental services on top of that if they deliver value. --
So what is next? Building ads on everyone's domains because they "deliver value"? Or maybe they should just redirect all the domains to their "site finder," because anyone looking for anything should probably just go to Verisign's ad site--they ARE the internet, right??
I agree with this in concept (if it is implemented correctly), as long as people understand that FormMail is one of the biggest exploits of spammers out there. They just use the form to use your server to send their emails. Don't believe me? Check any server log.;)
Second, this is really lame. Why do you want to bomb the engines for your baby site? Who really is looking for it when they search with those keywords?
Third, why in the world is this on/. ?
Maybe this will finally break my slashdot addiction;)
And what happens when you change to a different type of mouse? My change to wireless optical was quite a change which took some getting used to, and I'm sure it didn't "sign" the way I used to. Or whatever.:)
I doubt there is one available at this point. However, you may very well be able to emulate the software under WINE or (probably easier) Crossover Office. Yes, before someone jumps on me, they are built on the same code but I have noticed that apps run better (and faster) on Crossover.
If you don't have the expertise to research topics like this other than posting to "Ask Slashdot," maybe you should reconsider lecturing on such a topic. Teaching should be the overflow of something you know very well, not something unknown and thrown together by asking a web site. I hate to sit under lectures by people who don't know what they are talking about, and it is always very noticable.
Research papers are for learning---teaching/lecturing is when you already know and want to teach others what you have learned.
Right, like MSBLAST? RPC call is wide open. What about the MESSENGER service? Wide open for spammers. That's not third party stuff, that's built right in.
Now, I'm in agreement that it is sometimes the applications, but Outlook does come with the OS and is developed by good ol' MS themselves---that isn't a third party app.
Don't forget that with MSCONFIG you can simply disable "msblast.exe" from starting up, then it stops.
My wife got hit with it yesterday (she does most of the customer emails, so I'm sure it came from one of them) and she was even using Mozilla;)
I knew something was up, and google didn't have anything on "msblast.exe" so I figured it was something new and glad to see she wasn't the only one who contracted it.
I'd love to switch to Linux if I could get my HP LaserJet 3150 to work... I've tried it with every HP driver I have gotten ahold of and it just doesn't work. It's always "unsupported," and it's not even a "for windows" printer. That is annoying because I printer alot every day.
But other than that, I really love to use it, and love that I ran run PS7 and MSOffice on it now. Works great!
What do you expect? You think those seals are anything more than to keep people thinking their information is secure?
All those little seals require money, and when you pay them and fit in a couple of general rules, you get it. Easy as that. Yes, it's stupid, but for some reason consumers really think it's more safe to shop for a company that has a seal then those without one... even if they both use SSL that are "signed" by the lofty security people (Verisign, Thawte, etc.) rather than their own servers.
I've used PS7 with Crossover Office before (about three months ago)... it ran very smooth, and very fast! I couldn't tell the difference between on Linux and on XP, except that in XP the widgets look a little sleeker for some reason. I can now finally do quality photo maniulation without banging my head against the wall in Linux;) I highly recommend Crossover, it's a great product.
Sure, you can print 8x10s with it! But they stink. I've done it before... but you say what you have to in order to sell your product. If you have a 4mp camera, you don't have to interpolate in order to get it up to 8x10 @ 300dpi. But 2megapixels?? Give me a break. It's like enlarging the slashdot logo on this website and blowing it up for a color t-shirt...;)
If they really think 8x10's will turn out very well on a two megapixel sensor, they must be kidding themselves. Sure, they can enlarge it, but the quality of the camera is minimal and blowing it up will just make it look worse. However, for 4x6's this should be fine, although I'm sure people who are used to regular cameras will be unimpressed.

I do believe the "man" they were speaking of was not male, but just a synonym for "mankind."

Just use this. Life is good, eh?
You can run Photoshop easy in WINE... It works great too! Seems to run just as fast in most areas, I was very impressed!
(It should also be noted that I tried it with Crossover Office, haven't used it with the regular version of WINE)
Check out Alexa and their graph about VeriSign's jump... 1,920% jump in a day (also look at their rating, lol).
These guys have always been sneaky. Remember when they sent out the "nameless" re-register postcards? I guess scum never changes....
Some screen shots from Sun's site.
It's all about you, isn't it?

Yes, and notice that their anti-virus program detects both versions of the virus (the old and the "expectant" one) without even an UPDATE? Hmmmm... ;)
Yeah, I patched it up and everything. The Firewall wasn't on before for some reason, so I also enabled it at the same time. No problem since then.
Thanks for the info.

I mean, if you're going to devise a device to kill people and blow up stuff, you should make it as efficient as possible, right?
I'm sure they'll simply logon to mars.spirit.nasa.gov via SSH and fix it. Recompile the kernel or something. ;)

Have you tried this? You can test drive a bunch of different systems and OSs.

Good thing I never paid attention in high school chemistry, or I'd be all confused now... ;)
H20, H1.5O, HwhateverO. It still tastes great!
