This year's LinuxWorld was much more business oriented. Many of the organizations that appeared last year didn't show. Much less/lower quality freebies. The highlight of the show for me was trying out Sharp's new PDA.
My ISP told me about the first one, I deleted their accounts. On the second one, they just cancelled the server I was leasing from them (without ample time to back up).
I run a small ISP, and two of our clients decided to run fragmented DoS attacks and ping floods that consumed the entire 100mbit connection to our main server. Our ISP got royally pissed and cancelled our services with them because it was against their TOS/AUP.
I have moved on to a better ISP that actually filters attacks leaving and entering the network.
Assuming that this will go outside of your house, it looks like something good for the do-it-yourself isps we've heard so much about (burgerlar alarm wires, wireless in a silo, etc). Also, this would be a great solution for towns out in the middle of nowhere without broadband (last mile). The town government, or an enterprising individual for that matter, could purchase a dedicated line of some sort, and bring broadband to their town.
I wonder if there is any way to use this technology to make a WAN over the power lines. Imagine playing x video game with someone down the street at 14Mbit/s free.
What about those of us who paid $50 only one year ago for SuSE 7/PPC? I still have to pay $50? Rediculous. This is open source software, not Windows. By the way, the tech support is crap, they wont support anything that comes off the cds. I asked for help with the default sendmail installation and they wouldn't help me because it was not a SuSE product, what part of their OS is made by SuSE? None of it.
Every package that comes with SuSE PPC is broken, I ended up recompiling everything that I chose in the installer by hand.
Not to say that I don't like SuSE, but they need to fix some things.
Unfortunately, NSI has much worse problems than that. My domain has been expired on their database since Dec 99 and they wont let me transfer it to another registrar because it is "on hold". I called them and asked them how long it would take until it is deleted from their database and told them it has been over a year and they said "Oh, it will be much longer than that".
This has to be a violation some kind of law.
Anyways, all of my new domain business goes to Dotster, as well as my clients'. Too bad I purchased the domain before NSI lost their monopoly.
I would really like to see a PowerPC version of this. Many companies have released linux versions of their games, however most ignore the PowerPC completely. My linux box is PowerPC, and I would like to be able to run a Castle Wolfenstein server.
Where exactly does this website give a drop of information on the PDA? All I see is "Linux PDA" on the front page and the PDA itself in their online store.
How long 'till they combine this with some sort of tracking technology to see where I spend my money? Although this might be usefull in crimes like bank robberies and massive fraud cases, I really dont see many other uses for this.
I belive that OSXS 2.0 has some kind of printer sharing already.

I will be going tommorow and I was wondering if anyone knows if there are 802.11b access points in the exhibit hall.
:)
Also, any booths anyone reccomends checking out?

Isn't IBM a big company? Just because AOL/TW might buy RedHat doesn't mean that they want to enter the desktop OS market.
Hah... now I feel safe... my name address and phone number are flying through the air for anyone to pluck out. What ever happened to airport security?
What software is standard for CGI? I use FormZ for 3d modeling now, but its really a CAD program.

There is probably a reason for the distribution you are installing having a certain filesystem as default :)

Will this be released in the same time frame as Warcraft Adventres?
Any Macintosh support for this type of networking? I mean we have Airport, but with 1 mile, you cant go wrong :)

Maybe I should patent the the heart and charge people royalties in order to have one. Seriously, this is just as bad as yesterday's Napster crap.
