One reason that I don't talk to my family (other than my brother) on AIM is that I sometimes have things in my away messages and my profile that I don't necessarily want them to see. For example, I don't want them to read my away message saying that I'm at a party at 3am on a school night (the reason that they wouldn't know is that I go to school 3 hours and a few states away). I do, however, use iChat AV and my iSight to videoconference with my family.
Hey, I can imagine more than a few ways for Microsoft to get this cool images without making any changes to its lineup. For example, if Bill Gates appeared in the next Big Tymers video dressed in FUBU, wearing a giant gold "M$" on a chain, and throwing money all over the place, I'd think he's cool. An imagine the inroads M$ would make in the urban markets.... suddenly having the latest version of Windows could get you street cred.
My guess is that one of two things will happen: 1) the DOJ will take them down like Microsoft or 2) someone will buy out VeriSign and replace SiteFinder with a page of hundreds of porn ads and pop ups
My friend attends SUNY Maritime in New York and said that his school shut down their network to solve the problems and just got internet today. I was extremely surprised, as I think its a very far-reaching solution to a small problem.
I still haven't moved into my dorm, so I guess I'll have to find out when I go in. I have friends at RIT, West Conn, RPI, Marist, UCONN, NYIT, University of Rochester, and Elizabethtown College and none of them have trouble with their internet connections (I'm assuming this because I talk to most of them via AIM).
I highly doubt this will initially be released in the US. Like all other cool gadgetry, it will probably be out for years in asia before it makes its way to the us. *sigh*
I just got AT&T service a few weeks ago and I am happy with it. Although coverage in my town is spotty (I live in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nothing but trees), their coverage elsewhere is excellent. I also got the Sony Ericsson T306 for free, which I have found to be a good, full featured phone.
FYI, TopCoder is starting a high school level. Right now it is only in Connecticut (my home state, yay! I'm the Top Coder in my school). The final competition is on Tuesday at the University of Connecticut, which I will be attending:D. More info is @ http://highschool.topcoder.com
I have been recieving around 50 spam emails per day for quite some time now. I finally got so fed up with deleting them that I have been just forwarding them to AOL's Terms of Service dept. Maybe some day I'll be able to log into my AOL account without having 500 emails (I only use my AOL account for dialup for when I'm not home so the email goes unchecked for quite some time).
Its kind of a drag that they gave it such a shitty timeslot. I don't know about you, but I'm a student and I have to wake up at 5:30am... there's no way I can stay up until 2am watching cartoons.
I hang out at the WISP message board on broadbandreports.com ( http://www.dslreports.com/forum/dslalt ) and it seems that many WISPs are using these to connect customers to their wireless network. The WET11's antenna is detachable, so you can use an external one. It can also be configured to use POE (power over ethernet) by changing two jumpers.

First of all, just because Apple might switch manufacturers does not mean they will switch to x86. Such a move would not only be impossible, it would be foolish. If Apple were to have anyone else develope processors for them, it would be IBM, as they are the other part of the PowerPC. Neither Motorola nor IBM seem to have an interest in making consumer level processors, which is why it is so long between updates. Motorola also (I believe) owns AltiVec, so if Apple was going to have someone else manufacture for them, they would need a processor that could perform significantly better with much higher clock rates to compensate for the lack of AltiVec or pay an arm and a leg for processors since the manufacturer would have to pay licensing fees to Motorola.
I dont know if this could be it, but the file sharing program for Mac OS X called Neo scans ip ranges for KaZaa/Morpheus clients and can connect directly to the clients without use of the official fast track network. Its predefined for ranges in Charter Communications, Road Runner (Austin, CFL, Maine, MS, Neo, New, NYC, NYC2, NYCAP, NYCAP2, Rochester, STNY, TWCNY, CABLE), and Rogers.com. This and other "ghost" clients could be the reason that RR is blocking ports.
In my opinion, the've just handed the market to RedHat, the very company they want to overthrow, on a silver platter. Not everyone may like the RedHat distro, but they do contribute quite a bit to the community.
What an idiot... to claim that Lindows is a work in progress and therefore they wont include the source with preview releases is BS. All open source projects and linux distros are a work in progress, yet no one else seems to have any problem distributing their source.

the above post is obviously an ad for Verisign SiteFinder

I think most geeks have been choosing brain power over pleasant body odor for a long time now.

if a new model computer is released within 30 days of purchase, Apple will allow you to exchange yours
Also, Apple delays shipments when they intend on releasing new models, you would have recieved the new model anyway.

WHAT? Programmers have sex?
The Nokia innards ones are apparently just the evaluation ones.
However, if they did use Nokia innards in the final product, and the product was faulty, Nokia would get a bad name.
Read the article, those are just the evaluation models.... or so they claim.
