Yeah - and people who get stoned are really good drivers, too, I suppose?
Same goes for a lot of pain killers you can buy in any shop. When using those, don't drive. When drunk, don't drive. When being stoned, don't drive. Why can't marihuana be treated the same as alcohol, coffee or tobacco?
It's possible to use an ORDINARY kitchen knife to get loads of cash from almost anyone! It's indeed fun for the whole family, get your 12 year old to hold the knife against the throat of a random person in a quite street, and shout "GIVE ME ALL YOUR MONEY" in his face.
C'mon people, you have (well, I have at least) a legally binding contract with your isp that you do NOT try to alter any settings to the modem without their consent.
It's been said before, but it doesn't seem to sink in with the slashdot crowd: Just because you can doesn't mean you are allowed to.
In addition to that, all cellphones will start transmitting at full power when they cannot reach the base station. Sounds like jamming is a really bad idea indeed.
I once worked (temporarily) in a hospital, where the entire patient information system was made in Clipper by one of the surgeons in his spare time. He had a custom version for every user: when someone wanted some new function, he coded it on the spot for that person. No version management, no design, nothing.
This guy was approaching 65, and he was the only one who knew how it worked, so it was an accident waiting to happen. No-one wanted a new system however, *because* it was tailor made for everyone.
As it turns out, there have been a lot of screwups in the operations performed there. (Wrong bloodtypes, unnoticed allergies, etc.)
When someone points out there's an exploit to application Foo, and tells you how this can be used to steal all his private porn, it's all good and proper, because of the obscurity != security thing.
But when someone comes up with a way to marginally increase your daily spamload it's evil?
I think I'm getting the hang of this slashdot thing.
You and your product may have been very clear on the ad/spyware issue, but I'm absolutely sure I have never been asked by an installer if it was ok to replace my winsock.dll by something that resolves.cool and.new tlds etc. Or to redirect all my http traffic through some hit counter. Yet this happens when installing some of these "freeware" tools.
The problem is that these companies are not upfront about it. Morpheus has an anti-spyware logo on it's site for chrissakes. Only when everybody comes bitching to them, they change their EULA's and say, hey, we told you all along, and you agreed, so what are you complaining about?
"[Anti-adware program] has been found on your system. It may remove files that this software needs. Do you want to remove [Anti-adware program]?"
If it gave a warning like this, fine, I'd cancel and that would be it. If it gives you a choice (like ad-aware does), it's ok, otherwise it's not.
Erm, the usual order is to define your specs FIRST, then start with an implementation. Fairly basic CS stuff. Ok, this does not always happen in the real world, but that's hardly an excuse.
That's probably because all the author did was replace the dll with one that just does nothing. AD Aware just checks if the dll exists, and voila, you got a hit.
Here's a quick breakdown of the spam I receive:
75% is in a character set or language I can't read. (I filter anything *.tw, that takes out a lot of those)
10% promises to enhance my sexual performance
5% asks me to look at their bestiality or incest pics
5% is "really not a pyramid or chain letter scheme" to make money fast.
5% says I HAVE WON!!!! something, where I usually can't figure out WHAT I've actually won. (usually it's an amazing opportunity)
<1% is for products I might actually use in this lifetime.
I don't know who of the above the DMA represents, but I don't think they have a large influence on the crap in my inbox.

view;talk;yes;unzip;resize;touch;head;finger;strip ; latex;mount;play;gasp;yes;yes;yes;umount;zip;sleep
That is the sadest sig I've seen in a long time.
You should go out more.
A 6 billion strong beowulf cluster of human brains anyone?
Great idea, imagine the seti score for that one...
Let's hope they don't start using rocket jumps, auto-aim scripts and transparancy hacks.
If you can see it, it can kill you!
Close your eyes, and you should be safe.
Then again, that might kind of defeat the purpose of the experiment: see lots of colorful sparks.

Yes, crashing planes and scuds hitting army barracks are funny, but patients losing their lives is not.

Didn't exactly surprise me

You mean when you just happen to have an aluminium lined bag filled with goodies you just bought at another, similar store?
Does that happen very often to you? I personally have never been treated like a thief in a store, but your milage may vary.
An MD5 implementation has been found on this computer. This can be used to disable our program. It will now be removed.
My name is Dr. Sbaitso.
I am here to help you.
Please move your pawn to E4.

help them write the specs

I claim prior art.
Furthermore, I have a method to expand the range to anything from 1/2 Hz up to 6Hz.
So when a joke RFC is submitted, it's a fun joke, but when the patent office has a joke patent, they're morons? C'mon, it's a joke. Laugh.
I'm completely ignoring that you're probably a troll here, but there IS no such "law of nature".
By your logic, cesarian sections and ivf aren't fact either.

I strongly advise against copying PS2 games with pen and paper. Better use an infinite amount of monkeys with typewriters.
Except in France, I believe. Anything above 56 bit is illegal there.
I think the launch would be a pretty risky thing. Imagine the rocket blowing up at 15km up or so.
Always happy to lose some karma for humor's sake.
It's been good posting with you people, we should do this again some time
combined with this article, you could be right... Goldeneye, anyone?
