I'm very curious to see what comes about from the myth-vid branch of development. The devs are making a solid attempt at moving away from XvMC and using the 3D engine, as that's what nVidia does in the Windows drivers for their "PureVideo" stuff. It's got a lot of promise and opens up a lot of better deinterlacers beyond bob & weave. However, because ATI drivers have stunk so badly (and because they already own nVidia cards), that's what the devs are working with. For the forseeable future, if you want it to work, that's also what you buy.

As an aside, I've had excellent luck with XvMC for both SD and HD, though I ended up sacking the HD because the Bob deinterlace was kinda ugly and I had the CPU to spare.

I'm not sure of the resolution of each frame, but looking at the eyebrows on Shrek it's got to be pretty high.

It may not be much higher than 1280x1024 (don't forget that 35mm film is 4:3). That's the highest res that even the professional cinema DLP projectors use for display (save one insane model). I don't see what would be gained in rendering a 4000x3000 image over and over. Doubling the resolution squares the number of pixels, and when you're doing massive amounts of supersampling, the time required might jump by a factor of 16 (4 times as many pixels, and 4 subsamples to each pixel).

There are a couple of possibilites:

One is that this is the 2.5L STi engine. The other is that it is an EJ25 NA engine that was modded aftermarket to add a turbo. I would have to assume the latter, as this project looks to have been underway for a year or two, and the 2.5L STi engine was just released this year. 300BHP (not at the wheel) is pretty easy to attain from the EJ25, even with the stock compression ratio.

Gee, I wonder if he keeps the intercooler in contact with the water?

My only concern with the "125MPH" thing is that objects shaped like boats tend to push skyward as speed goes up. Ever seen video of those jetboats flipping a gazillion times and disintigrating?

Maybe not. Not meaning to sound condescending, but paper is made out of itty bitty chunks of wood glued together. What's stronger, a house made out of stone or one made out of sand? Sand is just little chunks of rock, after all. Even if you were to compare cement to rock (which is a pretty good analogy), I'd still put my money on a nice slab of granite.

The "saki process" evidently allows the wood to be reformed without the cracking, and then the sealer keeps it from cracking due to moisture. It probably also adds a certain amount of strength.

The article cites that, among other things, traditional 2D takes too long, and somehow looks dated. Hrm. Someone should inform Hiyo Miazaki that Priness Mononoke & Spirited Away are behind the times. There's something to be said about goddamn moving paintings . They also state that Brother Bear was hand drawn for a warm, organic feel. It's a shame they're in such a hurry to lose that.

Why not a mix of the two technologies? In keeping with the times, the 6-episode anime "FLCL" by Gainax was an entirely digital creation, while still being cell-based. No shortage of cutting edge techniques employed there. Made for a gorgeous DVD transfer, to boot.

Maybe this isn't a such bad thing. Maybe this will make room for other talented 2D cell artists to tread where the Mouse no longer fears to go. I've got my fingers crossed.

If the latter, well, I'm surprised your hard drive didn't start going "YAAGGGDITYBFLORRORGRAPF! I SHALL SKULL FUCK THE CONTENTS OF THIS PARTITION! MAAGGIDDYWRACKNACK!"

I've had that happen before. That's also why the newer Bartons are so nice. As the clock is unlocked, there's no need for the odd front side buss speeds.

The OEM cooler, in an average one-fan case, will see temps in those neighborhoods. The OEM cooler leaves a little something to be desired in its ability to shuck heat.
