There be SPOILERS here, but nothing that I think would really ruin the books....
This is a really strange trilogy of books. It's marketed at kids, but most of the allegory is bound to go over their heads. (It's pretty much an "anti-Narnia" series. With as much of a field day as the overzealous wackos have been having with HP, I'm amazed they haven't latched onto this series yet. It's *extremely* anti-religion.)
There's also the problem that the author obviously wasn't planning ahead. There are plenty of *big* references to the Knife as "God Killer", and it's obviously intended for that purpose, but never used in that way. The third book creates the "Amber Spyglass" mainly so it can be a third "item" to round out the trilogy; it serves no useful purpose whatsoever. And then there's the suddenly-tacked-on intense love interest between Lyra and Will in the last few pages of the book to make their parting have *some* meaning.
Overall, the first book got me interested enough to keep reading, the second book really got me hooked, and the third book was so frustrating that I wanted to throw it at the wall by the end.
Actually, it specifically says on this page ( http://www.codingtechnologies.com/mp3PROzone/faq.h tm ) that: "Libraries for the Linux operating system will be available during the third quarter of 2001."
On a different note, I wish Williams would hurry up and finish the Otherland series so I can stop buying the damn things. I don't like them anymore, but I feel that I've already invested so much time and money in the first 3 books that I have to see it through to the end.
You're in luck. The fourth and final volume is due out tomorrow.
Actually, they do show an "uncut" version of Gundam Wing during their "Midnight Run".... Although I've yet to be able to sit through enough of an episode to actually notice a difference.
Alas, the streaming client is MICROS~1 only, for now.
Well, their client software is, but you don't have to use it to listen. On the first page at WiredPlanet there's a link on the lower left for "Change Listener Prefs". Just choose "Generic MP3 Player" and they're more than happy to serve out an mp3 stream that you can listen to in your app of choice.
Personally, I think it's cruel and inhumane for Blizzard to do something like this during my finals week.

Actually, I bought a LEGO Technic set *cough* for my son *cough* the other day, and it came with several rubber bands for use in the steering mechanism. Sure, they're not bricks, but they *did* come with a LEGO set.
I enjoyed the Trilogy myself, as did my wife, but we can't figure out why it was called "His Dark Materials." Just being dense, I'm sure.
Hint: Read the excerpt of Paradise Lost at the beginning of the first book....

Legal or not, do *you* want to be portscanning CIA machines?
But, AFAIK, K-Melon lacks the coolest feature of Galeon -- tabbed browsing! That can be found in Netcaptor, however.
The Black Cauldron ( http://us.imdb.com/Title?0088814 ) was rated PG, but as far as I know it's the only other non-G Disney animated flick.

Terry Jones also wrote the (IMHO-not-so-funny) novelization of Douglas Adams' Starship Titanic a couple years back.
Well, that, and they fired their CEO a couple days ago. That's usually a tipoff.

Even better....they fixed that date, but now 0.6 says it was released in December of 2001. Wow!
And this has what to do with Enlightenment, specifically? Much like the earlier Star Wars/LEGO story being posted under the Games icon....
In all my years of watching DW, I don't think the word "elvish" came to mind even once as a descriptive term for Tom Baker....
Erm....'nuff said.
Someone said he helped his boss's boss print out a resume.
Yes, it's definitely time to worry when your boss's boss doesn't know how to print out something....
their choice of location for the "PC Card Slot" is rather amusing. (Or disgusting, depending on your sense of humor levels....)
Does it frighten anyone else that a few applicants applied for *both* [.kids|.fam] and .xxx ?
First off, it's firehose.net, not firehouse.net.... secondly, the software is still posted on the webpage, unless I'm hallucinating....

Does this remind anyone else of one of the Wallace and Gromit adventures?
Still more ironic, you misspelled "ironically". eh, never mind.

I noticed that xmms wouldn't work with my Aureal card when using OSS for the output, but worked fine using eSound....
Am I the only one that finds it amusing that this story shows up just after one entitled "Expanding Vulnerability of the Net"....?
