  2. Re:Just do what Global Warming Advocates Do on Getting The Public To Listen To Good Science · · Score: 2, Insightful

Except that Global Warming people actually have EVIDENCE. You don't.

The current problem is that we have too many people who are willing to tell lies to support their political views. They have found that the lies are much more acceptable when you have an authority figure telling them to the populace. Thus, you get Creationists pretending to be scientists when speaking to the public. The same goes with Global Warming deniers and other followers of Pseudoscience.

People don't trust science anymore because they have been lied to by people like you for so long they don't know what to trust or who to believe. One group of "scientists" tell them one thing and the next day another tells them something else.

We have gotten into this mess because people like you started to believe that Science somehow had to reflect their own political opinions, no matter what the evidence. (Like the melting polar icecaps.)

In 2004 I listened to an interview with Ralph Nader and why he was running. It was very apparent by the end that he does not give a damn what happens if he runs, he is only concerned with feeding his ego. In fact he seems to think that the disaster of the last eight years is a validation of why he must run. He does not have a clue, nor does he want one.

Ralph needs to wake up and figure out just how much damage his running would cause.

A vote for Nader is a vote for McCain.

My first car (a 1984 Ford Escort) required a special tool to replace the timing belt. (And you *HAD* to replace it every n thousand miles because if it broke you were screwed and needed very expensive repairs. And the 1983 model was worse. If it broke on an 83 Escort, you had to replace the valves.)

Seeing how tight they cram things into some of these mini-cars these days, it does not surprise me that it requires a mechanic to do much of anything on them.

  8. Blame Outlook on Corporate Email Etiquette - Dead or Alive? · · Score: 1

The reason that people in corporations top post is because Outlook pretty much forces you to top post. Since so many companies use it, it has become the "norm".

Getting companies to handle sane quoting is going to take a big change from Microsoft and a big cultural shift. I don't expect it any time soon. The habits are far too ingrained at this point.

(And, yes, I know where are plug-ins/hacks for Outlook that reformat e-mail. I have yet to get any of them to work. They seem to be based on a loophole that was plugged in later versions of Outlook. I have yet to find anyone who has gotten them to work.)

It is worse than that. You are punished for taking hard courses.

If you expect to get into a good college, you have to have a pristine GPA. In order to get that, you have to cut back on courses that are hard. If you take hard course you will learn more, but you may not score as well. So doing hard things loses out.

I had a crappy GPA in high school. I took the hardest courses I could find. I learned a lot, but it made getting into a good college next to impossible.

The system is rigged against those who want an intellectual challenge. Until we change that, the rest is a foregone conclusion.
