This is not tin-foil hats, this is real. The U.S. Patriot act gives the government the right to go into your house go through your computer and never tell anyone they were there. Also, if you happen to figure out they were there, and you tell anyone, they can put you in jail.
Once you know how vi works it's very easy to edit your files using a simple regular expressions. I'm not saying anything is wrong with Emacs, but vi is just perfect: lightweight, fast, and powerful. Also, you won't find Emacs on every unix system you log into, like you will vi. There's no way an experienced Emacs user can beat an experienced vi user in a file editing contest.
So what your saying is stealing might not be illegal, if stolen device is not used within the confines of it's original, intended, purpose and function.
So if I steal your money and use it to kindle my cozy winter hearth, should that be considered illegal?
Illegal? Yes. Amusing? Yes. Worth either of our time? No.
Ummm...Hello? This is a science project...This wasn't made by X graffitti artist to ease his spray-finger. It's a science project done with the purpose to create something scientific. If you want to call the creating process art, then fine. Art means to be art and science means to be science. Sometimes scientific things can be creative and artistic and vice-versa, but nevertheless lets, please, maintain our perspectives.
Plus...Hektor is obviously a robot replica of Andy Warhol.
This guy could install all of that in 40Mb because he was running XWindows with twm with no "desktop environment" no pixmaps titlebars or mouse-over graphics, with no super-duper nautilus file manager only an xterm. This guy is wondering why it takes more gas to power a Cadallac as opposed to the Civic he used to drive.
X, apache, perl, gcc, etc. -- are just the bare essentials now, as opposed to the entire system. It's just a case of bigger and better.
I gotta give a shot out to Cheap-bytes. I get a new distro about every 6 months but I only pay about $8 bucks a pop including shipping. It's great. Keep up the good work Cheap-bytes!
Has anyone heard about the Panasonic GameCube? Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM) had an article that mentioned a special edition GameCube to be released by Panasonic that will play DVDs for an estimated cost of ($299). Tasty.
err, standard unix passwords are supposed to be 6 characters or more. you could replace standard with default in that statement...or better yet the standard default setting...
David, I didn't mean it to sound as harsh as its aparently being inturpreted. I was just saying its been a long while since we've seen an official release and that I (and I'm sure many others) have been eagerly awaiting one. I apologize if it sounded negative when I more meant it as constructive critizism. I honestly have a great appreciation for Rob's work and I suppose it just seemed that it was something Rob was either avoiding or being a little to anal about.
Although, I still think Rob needs to update the SlashNET link;).
I made the version number from memory and wasn't sure of it hence the (?). I stand corrected merely on the version number which is purely factual. I was merely stating that I'd like to see Rob put a newer version up. I stand by my previous comment. P.S. How would I know what SLASH was if I had no idea where slashdot.org/code.html was you need your logic corrected.
Rob, come on, dude! When are you gonna release a new version? I understand you not wanting to make tarballs of your code all the time but its been practically forever since you release SLASH v0.1(?). Can you please release more code?
Oh yeah, one more thing can you also please update the SlashNET link? For drdink's sake? Everyone come irc on irc.slashnet.org, and visit slashnet.org =).

Welcome to your country...

^k will put you directly into a google search. cheers!
I want to be disappointed in Orkut, too!!!! Send me an invite!!
The third movie will be exponentially better, just like the book. Gary Oldman as Sirius Black!! Doesn't get better than that, Potter fans! =P
I agree with you though. Minor revisions are required to bring a good novel to screen. The process is most certainly one of translation.

I'll trade a friendster invite for a Okrut invite. Any takers??
Good to know that I'm not the only one that read this years ago. At least 5 years old.
Windows NT scripting is "very functional" but Perl is bloat. Wow, funniest thing I've heard all year.
AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! DEPENDENCY CIRCLES!!!!!!!
Ah, whew, switched to gentoo. Just a nightmare...
You do realize the irony of questioning the appropriateness of apropos, don't you? I'll assume that you do, and suggest you get modded up. =)

Mandrake is based off of Red Hat. It's basically a customized Red Hat.
I played it too...Horrible. I runs at like -0.34 fps on my 600mhz tnt2 w/ 128Mb System RAM + 32Mv Video.

Actually, Sony has already announced that they'll be droping the price. Unfortunately it was only like $30 bucks...
