Then you read wrong. It's pretty obvious he means he's bought countless DVDs, from licensed distributors, as fansubs as discussed in the article are not sold for profit, or at all.
Actually, that's not really the case in the sub groups I have run across. I have seen a few smaller companies who released their product in Japan only, but WITH English subtitles. The groups who were likely to have subbed the product refused to because they already had subs.
I think in general "released" means "released with English subs".
I'm not so sure most people buy the DVD. There is a lot of ignorance out there and a lot of people assume that fansubs are legal and complain when a title gets licensed.
$70 is also kind of low for a set. A regular 24 or so episode show is usually going to run to 5-7 discs, at $30 retail, which can usually be picked up for about $18 each online, and your total is $100 or more.
Compared to a US Television show that is quite a bit of money for a single season, but you also have to take into account the fact that a US TV show has already made its money back and an Anime release has to make costs and profit on DVD sales alone for the most part.
Of course, it should be noted that by and large IT professionals earn more money then most other jobs
Q. What is the difference between then and than? A. These two words are quite different!
Their only similarity is in the way they sound. Than is used to compare or contrast things, as in "He is a lot smaller than his older brother." Then refers to time or consequence: "And the Canaanite was then in the land" (Gen. xii. 6.); "If all this be so, then man has a natural freedom" (Locke). So if one thing follows or results from another, use then.
Than is also used before a pronoun, as in "Paul loves pizza more than me."
Than or Then?
Than is a conjunction used with comparisons. It rhymes with pan.
Then is an adverb that refers to time. It rhymes with pen.
Examples: He likes you more than me.
First you take a cup of flour, and then you sift it.
There's the sales tax as well as the postage. that 2.40 turns into 2.77 or whatever postage is these days. And then there's the time wasted following up on these rebates.
It's almost as if the goal is to make EVERYTHING have a rebate, so that you can't track them all, so what you remember to send in they can "forget" to rebate to you.
Yes, 5th 3rd does have some idiotic tendencies like that. it's $25 overdraft fee now. The fact that they still use a paper based deposit system annoys me. But that's who we use.... Most of the time when a scenario like yours happens to us I just bring in the dated deposit slip and they refund all the fees.
So your answer to my original question is no then.
The fact that Fansubs don't cost money is where you missed the point and probably why you took the meaning you did.
Uh huh. Yeah. If I create something I have every right to show it wo who I want and not show it to who I don't.

So you're saying regardless of whatever the legal system says, that everyone has the right to see everything produced ever?

Guess you've never heard of a pager?
I'd just be happy with the option to play the original versions.
Since this is Massachusetts it has a couple of relevant pieces right now. Gay Marriage being at the forefront.
I broke 300 hours a couple times on dial up....of course, I was telecommuting.
Precisely. Even the 200 hours/month plan still isn't even 7 hours a day.
150 hours per month?!!?
that's like 6 hours a day for 25 days
Of course, a lot of fantasy is pulp and sucks. Even if you're not a fantasy fan you can find some good novels that happen to be fantasy.
That assumes that the rebate requests never get "lost", or they claim you failed to include all the information.
Why is this on the front page? It's not exactly news....

It's just like the mail in rebate scam that goes around....
How many people forget to send in those $5 rebates for items?
