    I agree there are a ton of trades that can and will still earn a living despite automation. I really don't think plumbers are going anywhere anytime soon either.

    Or perhaps the soviets would have developed them first and became the dominant player. Remember its not like we were the only country working on that tech at the time.

    Um... Right offhand my first thought is "Who are they going to work for next". You might not like the NSA but if all of their top talent goes elsewhere it could be a very serious problem for us. Imagine what would have happened if during the development of the atomic bomb if all of the talent would have went to work for someone else? Do you think that scenario would have worked out for us?
    Just food for thought.

    Well just think about if you had to have a decades worth of knowledge to implement SSL on your website. I think most normal admins would agree that is a high bar to jump to ensure nobody is snooping on data coming over that connection.

    I get where your coming from but standards and guidelines are key to making the web what it is today.

    Okay well the modern Internet is a fuckin mess so maybe not the best example but you know that I mean.

    you obviously don't understand the idea of impossible. So what they had the site secured against injection attacks then did not and now they are vulnerable again magically? You could use a brush up with a dictionary dude. For you that are slower then tar you can attack multiple times and just because this one was DETECTED does not mean ones in the past were impossible.

    Taking the HG wells time machine back a few decades when we could have probably saved it? Even if all greenhouse gasses were stopped completely right this second its going to take a very long time for the earth to trap that carbon again and start returning to normal temperatures. So call it now or call it later but I really can't see what can be done about it at this point.
    Maybe if we act on carbon caps we can save some of what is still alive in the ocean.

    My phone and tablet were both listed so I installed the app and ran the check and neither one was vulnerable to this bug. I don't think the list they have includes vendor OTA updates so its more less based on the software the devices had when they were stock. So my take away is don't put too much faith in that list by itself. You are better to do the check and then remove the app.

    I have had this discussion with many people and most of the dangers we face are not the kinds of things you can "wait out in a bunker" like in some bad hollywood film. Almost all the disasters we face are going to have long term consequences which may last into geologic time tables. You will not have enough supplies to live for hundreds or thousands of years so you are slowly going to run out of resources and eventually die anyway. Although the idea of a rich guy eating those horses is kind of funny in a black humor sorta way.

    You know just because they have the same stuff in them does not mean the design is obviously faulty like this device. I would consider any fire on a jet to be a very serious situation and its not worth the risk so somebody can check facebook.
