On the mac side, the UI is mostly drag & drop instead of context-menu heavy as in Linux & Windows. I don't miss the second button (much). Not perfect, but not nearly as bad as people switching in from Linux & windows would believe.
Dude I just wanted to tell you that your post (and the well-mod'd ones before it) have just renewed my interest in/. Understandably, it's been waning for quite some time. Thanks man.
The silly but extremely practical solution for data sharing is a USB memory stick.
The only reason I'd have for running windows would be Half-Life 2. Lots of people are suddenly a lot more comfortable with the Mac now, as they can go back to windows in case they don't like the switch. Now most everyone here knows that 99% of them will love the switch and never boot windows again, but it's a big move and a workable Plan B really takes the stress off.
Ugh. Why can't they use the model Mathematica and Matlab use, where you buy a cheap base product, and modular add-ons? The add-ons can be priced for each industry, and people feel like they're getting something real for the price difference.
Anyways, good point on the supportability issue. If it helps, I'm sure it'll be a nightmare for people inside MS too (e.g. enterprise support, sales team, etc.)
Games I've got on my treo (purchased on sprint vision, autobilled to my phone bill) - Bejeweled - Pac man - Ace Poker - Galaga
I paid 15-20 for each, and they're all worth it (Sprint gives you like $15 a month in vision credits to blow on shit like this). The games are fun time wasters, and equally important, a great icebreaker. See an attractive lady next to you who looks as bored as you do? Bring up pac man with all the sounds and music. It'll get a smile.
On a more serious note, cell phone games are also simple and unintimidating enough for the larger market: adults, women, and younger children (a great way to get them to shut the hell up). At $15 a pop, with no game-specific hardware costs, why not?
OTOH, it's also a simple, humble, fun market. And for some reason, the MBAs think that this means it's another internet boom waiting to happen -- because, for them, everything's another internet boom waiting to happen. Fuck them and their booms. It's a simple, humble, fun market. There isn't enough money in it to spend millions on advertising (and hopefully there won't be for a long time), and apparently that's the big 'Mirage' of cell gaming. Again, fuck those idiots and their bubbles.
Has no ill-effect to the user, looks like 1 part was overdesigned. Overall, looks like one person was in charge of the storage and UI for the rating, and another for the statistical interpretation (makes sense, a UI person and a math person).
There's always the risk that good value will backfire in the face of percieved value - namely, that the Revolution will be looked upon as cheap and underpowered in comparison to its competitors.
Just from the number of people I talk to who just want street fighter II or super mario bros again, I can safely say that looking simple and cheap isn't a bad thing. Hell a lot of people still play the original NES (if they can get their hands on it).
When you're in a room of 299 people all choosing to pray around you, and you're the 1 person there who isn't of that religion, try and not feel intimidated.
Slashdot, the center of all PC news and commentary, said that Sun is increasingly becoming a relic. Instead, what has become important are FPS Games on the Internet and the majority of the world will first experience the Internet through cheap $200 PCs.
Dude, read some news about Apple for a while. Thousands of the same stupid "bite out of" headlines will quickly change your opinion.
Wow, that's one of the dumbest fucking comments I've seen on /. in some time.

Not hard to imagine that the fuel gets easily available. For example, coffee shops would be smart to sell it.

Hey man, there's always hope. He did take responsibility (in words only, of course) for the non-preparations for Katrina.

Let's remember to give Apple credit, few thought the iPod would succeed. BUT, I don't think apple's gunning for the business market.
Because they may be doing it for higher causes. Some people, even those in corporations, still would like a better world for their kids.
Dammit CIA, stop astroturfing slashdot!!
They may have had the money, but not the time.
IMHO, MSN+AOL=irrelevant. Who will care when you add Lame Pathetic together ?
A hint? Look at their stock history. No real growth in *years*.
Also, isn't this MS leveraging their existing monopoly to gain an edge in a new market? Anti-competitive?
It also publicizes the cause he donated to, which can benefit from being attached to the world's largest billionaire.
Check out the growth curve on their stock -- it's been flat for years. The company hasn't been going anywhere for a _looong_ time.
Actually, it'd be worse. Imagine jacking in, only to find yourself in Super Mario World 64...
