And here we are told that the CIA only spies on other nations and not within the US.
I will say that her position is such that an enemy who turned her would have a serious advantage and therefore she does need deep investigation as a matter of national security as do all others involved in the intelligence community. The catch is that the CIA is not the org that is supposed to do this sort of thing.
Just maybe this world is so dangerous that all of this spying needs to be going on. Maybe I am lucky in not knowing the evil going on around me.
If the former Soviet segments blast each other into oblivion should we care? The Arab nations are a similar issue. If they happily continue murdering each other, as has been there norm for many centuries, just why should the US give a fig?
Public schools are an arm of government. Here we have an arm of government restricting communications again. Freedom of speech is taking one heck of a beating.
Kids to tease each other. They always have and always will. Some brittle children fold up like a worm on a hot sidewalk if they get teased or bullied. I doubt that we can change that. Other kids toughen up a bit and the attempts to tease or bully them don't work. Although it is a lousy method the tease and bully routine is an attempt to force others to come closer to the standards of the group. As a group the kids do have control of the bullies if the parents and teachers back off a bit. The playground bully can rapidly be taught a quick lesson if half a dozen weaker kids band together and beat a little humility into the bully. Interference by adults often leads into even more intrusions into the world of kids. The normal joys and discoveries of childhood can be stolen by an overly protective environment,
Some families can afford to have a parent at home at all times. For them home schooling via a net education system will be a snap. In effect that will remove about half of the kids from many school systems. Teachers are already being laid off as some school classes are now taught by comnputer alone, in the class room. Security systems monitor kids who are not compliant during class so one person can monitor quite a few classes.
Less fortunate families need the schools but they are not the ones that supply the property taxes that support most school systems. You can see the stage being set for trouble. Just imagine a commercial venture that offers an at home computer course that offers a solid high school diploma. Obvioulsy the companies that charge the most money cabn afford to do a better job of providing learn at home situations. Again the poor are beaten down as even if they have someone to watch the child at home they will have to make do with more economical learning programs for their kids.
So it comes down to this. If we can not solve educational issues now and a whole lot of new issues are being heaped upon the situation by an expansion or learning systems can we really do this stuff without all hell breaking out with angry parents demanding more and other parents demanding a lot less tax money for public schools? And what will we do with the huge numbers of teachers that will soon be forced out of their professions?
I'll put it this way. I would pay money not to live in or visit NYC. I have been there and consider it the lowest of all ways of life. Dirty, smelly, crimne ridden, social horror story and abomination against God and nature pretty much sum up my feelings about NYC. What may have been a decent piece of land before the Europeans took over has become a nightmare of rotting concrete and human misery.
Obviously more than one religion have sects that just can't handle facing facts. It seems to start with an inability to read. The notion that a scripture is inspired somehow gets twisted into the idea that a scripture is perfect. Poor readers can not sort out the difference. Dwayne Wade may play an inspired game of basketball but no man has ever played a perfect game of basketball. Congregations turn this into a real problem by claiming that the perfect scripture is the word of God and can have no flaws or alternate interpretations.
What makes more sense is to believe that God has no limits and therefore God can use evolution to create worlds and creatures that inhabit those worlds. And then realize that scriptures could only be handed to people in a manner in which they could be received and understood. Imagine going back 2,000 years or more and handing people texts about creatures changing over time and having past relatives that were not even human. The effect would not have been instructive and no faith could have been built. Whether it is a Bible or a Torah, either can be used to guide one through a good life. Yet both will fail miserably if used as a manual to try and repair a TV set. Primitive ministers make the error of trying to imply that a scripture is the perfect answer for all problems.
I suspect that a straying wife or husband might be murdered by a spouse if knowledge that the car has been parked at a lover's home. But i don't think the practice of data collection and sale should be banned. After all that plate is public in nature and view. It is far worse when only the government has the right to use such tools. And for civilians you just might save your teens life if you find that he is visiting a drug house etc.. Car insurance companies might offer cheaper policies to those not prone to parking near places that serve booze. In other words it is not all bad news. The public also needs to consider the positive consequences of allowing study of others habits.
If we supplied the terminal patients with plenty of opium and a pipe they would probably be far happier than at any time in their lives. Pain would not be an issue and fear would be at zero. Sadly our society just can't stand the idea that a pain killer as effective as opium just might mean that a terminal patient might only live 28 days whereas without opium that might get to suffer a few more days. Maybe a nice dose of LSD and a good pipe full of opium would be even better. Instead of going out with a whimper why not go out grinning and giggling and really happy about the experience?
There is an issue with quite a few distros being released that do not easily show streaming video. These days one expects video to just work out of the box so to speak.
A combat plane needs to be able to take a punch as well as to strike out at the enemy. Just like a boxer. Some boxers have "bad" skin and cut easily and take long to heal. That means they can't fight often at all. Some boxers somehow need a huge support staff. Some aircraft are like that as well. They can be high maintenance and require frequent, expensive attention. Some boxers have weak bones in their hands and wrists. They can fight but they can't punch hard enough. And some types of boxers are harder to get in the first place. Bantam weights and heavy weights are rare compared to more mid-range body types.
If one views a war plane as one views a boxer things become obvious rather quickly. I wonder how quickly either England or the US could have tooled up to produce large numbers of Bugatti war planes.
College is meant to exist for people who love academic pursuits. College normally has nothing at all to do with job opportunities. To connect higher learning to the workplace degrades the concept of college and frankly would attract people into the college system that are undesirable. The heroes of learning that we are taught about in college often lived in abject poverty. Whether it is Mozart or Van Gogh or Hemmingway making a living was not their goal in life. Look at the money spent by those that play the oboe or the bassoon on their instruments and going to conservatories. Yet how many of the oboe players or bassoonists make anything at all in payment and even among the lucky ones the pay is on the miserable side. Trying to make a living as an astronomer has to be a real hoot. Seen any ads for astronomers wanted lately?
Thanks to global warming oil that is now coating the rocks on the beach will soon be completely under water and out of view. And when your seafood hits the frying pan you no longer need cooking oil to keep it from sticking to the pan. And dredging for gold where the river mouths reach the ocean may no longer be an issue as well as one simply can not run oil coated gold particles through the sorting riffles as it will not stay put. Also modern society has never figured out how to deal with tribal people in the artic regions and oil in their diet may well finish off what smallpox and alcohol failed to completely accomplish when tried out upon them in years gone by.
Hey! If i really believed that rant i would sign up for the Republican party.
In such a course the first thing I would point out is how dismal we have always been at predicting what the future will be like. From my own view point I would suggest that we have at least a 50,50 chance of descending into a dismal and barbaric spiral into oblivion. It is one whopping assumption that the future will be better than life is now. We have a population that just assumes that "they" will find a way to solve our problems. Yet not a single politician will touch the population explosion issue and few will admit that growth is an environmental horror story and that the world economy is based upon growth,
Getting drunk, getting high on dope, riding very fast motorcycles, and skipping education entirely might be the best plan of all for modern youth. A fast ending but exciting, short life might be a good goal.
Good employees are almost always available if an employer is really willing to pay. Whether it is an IT professional or a feild worker picking oranges it distills down to the same issue. If farmers paid enough there would be American laborers who would instantly leap to picking oranges. And if technology oriented companies are really willing to pay then the best workers will stand in line to get hired.
Two issues exist. The first is a class warfare type of situation where the bosses feel that they are superior and employees are just convenient dirt to be misued at will. Only a shallow pretence of caring about employees is made. The second issue is that many businesses have no reason to exist and actually simply can not pay good wages for quality workers. In my area restaurants are a huge example. We have far too many restaurants that stand almost elbow to elbow, Most go broke or survive on a thread. They get by on the hope that one day they will become popular and capture the market. Employees is such businesses only do well by accident and in fact the owners may become enraged to find that a worler does well while they dread their businesses survival odds.
Politics enters in when borders are allowed to be easy to cross or work permits for foreigners are common. And the tax payer is the chump who pays for it all. Picture an American who can not survive on wages picking fruit being replaced by an illegal immigrant. The American ends up on unemployment, or disability or welfare. the farmer hires the illegal worker for one third the pay and the tax payer pays for the American worker who is idled.
Air craft without pilots, ships of war without human crews, soldiers in the field replaced with machines will create a much larger and more potent military with far fewer humans involved. The nature of war has changed quite a bit but our ability to sting an enemy is on the increase.
I have grave doubts that this course in finances is not designed to support right wing ideas. There is almost nothing involving finances that is not political or a matter of unproven beliefs.
Traditional ideas about business and the work ethic may have already killed us off as the effects are accumulating and no remedy for the growing, negative effects, is at hand. For example we are no where close to eliminating slash and burn deforestation which has the potential to kill all life on Earth. We have no handle at all on causing the population boom to reverse itself. The world's oceans are effectively dead or at least on their death beds. We can not house, feed or provide care and stability for the world's population. All of these woes fall back upon the fact that businesses are at the root of it all. And not one single politician deals with any of this, ever. Business and finances are all about endless growth. Growth itself may be our worst enemy. A catastrophic, world wide, total collapse of the economic system just might be the best thing that could happen to us if it shut down modern businesses and eliminated 90% of the world population.
Given that the above is somewhat correct would it not be true that little Johny and Susie should be taught that bankrupticy and no-pay of debts is an ideal state of behavior? Should educated students be taught to maintain, advance, or destroy existing systems? It is all political.
There is a new technology that makes it impossible to lie in court or when interviewed by police. I suppose businesses will want to use it on employees as well. It seems that the muscles that control the voice box move even when you only think a thought instead of speaking it outloud. A cop could easily tell everything that is going on in your mind with this technology as could a wife or a divorce lawyer. I wonder how society would do if the truth were always available for all to see. Imagine politicians and diplomats being interviewed.
If we had a major war similar to WWI or WWII we would quickly rue the day we allowed our railroads to shrink and offer such limited service. The ability to transport the large numbers of troops as well as the items required to support a war effort simply is not in place now. Trucks and air could never handle it. And even if we had the trains we may not have ports that are able to handle the bulk and the munitions required to be shipped by sea. Texas lost a town when a munitions ship exploded in WWII. Ports for war supplies need to be large and rather distant from populations. In Florida our larger ports are now surrounded by high population densities in most cases. During the Cuban missile crises Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale had numerous military vessels, warehouse loaded with supplies and an oil storage depot including a power plant that supplied the county and an international airport that would have all gone up if only one little bomb was dropped by accident. The loss of a couple of aircraft carriers, submarines and military supply vessels could have been caused by one, primitive saboture who lacked any real training at all.
Why the heck would anyone trust the FBI more than the NSA? The FBI has some ugly and illegal activities in its history. Not to mention that Hoover was a serious nut case. We are talking about an agency that had a fat, old, gay man, in the closet while married, who liked to dress as a female ballarina and spin about. And Hoover did not mind having a hand in certain assassinations either.
For quite a few people with either religious or unusual beliefs there is a belief that the nature of reality or actuality can not be penetrated as a designed law installed by a creator. If it is simply an advanced race and we are living in their simulated universe or whether if is God that intends for us to live within a perpetual mystery the end result is the same. Humanity will never be allowed to understand the nature of things. There is also some belief that only after death are we allowed understanding.
In banking certain executives are sought out due to their position in life. For example if you are from family with great wealth and have numerous contacts with other very wealthy people and an impeccable background you will be highly paid. It is the type of thing at which a person can pick up a phone and make two or three calls and put together a multimillion dollar investment pool for a project. If such an individual sees a hot deal and is willing to put a few million of his own money in the pool it is easy to get his social contacts to do the same. Implied in that situation is that the executive must have leisure time and spend that time in the same resorts, yacht clubs, golf clubs etc.. His kids will be in the same exclusive private schools as their children. In order to be in this position he actually must live a very wealthy lifestyle so that his contacts remain frequent and firm. It is the classic case of money being drawn to money. It excludes normal people.
Just maybe we might want to consider making it illegal to use farm land to make ethanol. And maybe we could keep prices down in the US if we halted the export of agricultural products and seafood. And if we were ever intelligent enough to close our borders and have enforced birth control quotas we could regain economic sanity.
The very purpose of a license plate is to make public the identity of a specific vehicle. Trying to say that govenrment or anyone else can not keep records of where a plate is noticed is absurd. My wife, my teenage kids, or an employee just might be driving that car. It does not track the owner at all. The tag identifies the car and not the driver.
Worse yet one doesn't even need a plate unless one uses the vehicle on a public road. So just what element is private about a plate openly displayed in public. If I notice a suspicious vehicle can i write down the plate number just in case something happens? The privacy nuts get way over the edge these days.

Explosive greed might be the term that fits. Another example of big business being more than willing to kill people to make another penny or two.

just hope that this bug is not designed to attack large, warm blooded, animals.
