If they can process plastics into something edible (work as CHON food sintetizers) or that can be metabolized by the ocean ecosystem could be a way to get rid of the Great Pacific garbage patch should be something pretty good.
In the other hand, if those start to pour into our plastic and oil dependant civilization could be pretty damaging.
Suppose that they put 10000 random persons in jail or directly killed, but 20 of them resulted to be killers. That would justify what they did?
They are stripping privacy everyone, not just people from US. And they probably will have false positives, or scapegoats, or just push an agenda using the information they gathered to extort/force someone to act in their interests. And as Snowden proved, even in the improbable case that they as institution had a justice as goal, the individuals working there could had used the information at their reach for their own goals (and the odds of misusing it increases as you get up in the organization)
Is easy, any page with the keyword "prism" surely is porn and must be blocked. They are keyphrases too, but i still can't understand how porno culture switched to say just fuck to add names to it, specially if those names are from the top people in the government. Must be related to the rule 34 of internet.
they are turning private life into something illegal. And like drugs, or in the past alcohol, its turning the environment where you can have privacy into fertile ground for crime. So you have a catch-22, or don't have privacy and be caught by sneezing in public or equivalent things, or think that have, but while doing so being in the neighbourhood of real criminals, so you become a prey for both groups.
Wouldn't have any "mind control" device a similar effect? Like, i.e games or prosthetic limbs. That would give a more practical use (and reach a far bigger audience), while keeping the benefits.
As i said, the government said that weren't them.... probably. But could had been, after all, reporters or press in general are the ones that receive leaks to announce them.
But odds are high that is just another windows intrusion as there are many, i.e. running a trojan or any new worm, or be a new version of something on the lines of Red October that could take years on be detected.
Not all hacking comes from the government, but as they say, probably a good part do. That was what i read in their denial, "this time, i think that wasn't us"
Will make real sense if is fully human powered, either for recharging its electric batteries or use it for direct propulsion, but probably is needed more power than what we will provide with low effort.
Is that how now is called an enforced remote backdoor? What ensures you that it won't be used to i.e. track everyone, where they are, what they use, what they write or how licensed is the media they are playing? Will be outlawed (or at least, not offered by the companies) the "non-approved" phones because of this?
Probably "think on the children" and "or the terrorist will win" were too used this week, and they had to invent something else. But i would had waited a few weeks so the massive awareness on how they are tracking us deflates a bit before proposing such kind of things.
There are a lot of things that you disagree that you just don't see (fortunately, in some cases). And there are a lot of people that believe in things that are just not real, or "wrong" by any scientific measure. So or you rig the representation not getting close,or getting a lot of the "wrong" people close you rig everything.
The only way to win is not play the game. Just don't login.
In one of the links of above there is a nice hint:
Microsoft Corp. (MSFT), the world’s largest software company, provides intelligence agencies with information about bugs in its popular software before it publicly releases a fix, according to two people familiar with the process. That information can be used to protect government computers and to access the computers of terrorists or military foes.
That seem to mean that they are actively holding the fix of 0day bugs, waiting for the "government" (or the people that have access to that information) make a successful exploit and use it, before releasing a patch.
PostgreSQL is included with RedHat too, is not taken out. But, if despite all what its critics say, you still want a MySQLish database in Redhat, then you will have MariaDB, that is more performant and more future proof in the open side than MySQL.
In the other hand, in some countries there are a pledge for using open formats for government data, something that could give a chance to keep using, or take the information from it, even after the company behind it closes or just decide to switch direction, maybe many years after. The code that is behind don't need to be open source, but usually if is, then the format of the data is open too (or at least, the way to access it).
This is for protecting the big boys, not the small ones. Is not that patents cost everyone 29 billons, is that cost to big companies, they are free to do their share of the trolling, do innovation or not (i.e. MS requiring android device makers to pay them for their FAT patent). Of course, also go to some of the ones that only troll. But is not a solution, just another way to give even more leverage to the big companies.
At least is a bit more targetted than doing it in the feets. It have risks, but doing it right could have its potential. Regarding the people that want to try it as the new fad without knowing what they are doing, shouldnt be much worse than getting addicted to Krokodil.
What you call "the US and the West"? Their government/people on power or the population? I'd say by the numbers that he did a pretty great favor to the 99+% of the people on those regions. How much difference have in practice actual government with an occupation force, after all?
Look at the other end of the line. There should be an irony somewhere out there.

We must spy everyone because they spy us! Is just wrong when others do it.

then turn into enemies to keep them even closer. After all, if they have something to hide they should be conspiring against us.

Just after NSA deploy its own exploit

Can't, all the available money is needed for more important things

Spy on basically everyone on the planet, no one bats an eye. Spy on a public person, everything is crazy now.

The only way they see to "deny" what they are doing is shooting the messenger. "Independent" press has been attacking him since the start.

The problem is not the backup, but who have access to it. And is not just the NSA.

Noone watches the watchers, not even them... and Snowden was one of them.
