How do we know Hawking has not already been replaced by an Artificial Intelligence;)
We take it on faith that this immobile guy in the wheel chair with the computer voice is the one really speaking and not a artificial intelligence.
If you invest in Bitcoin you run the risk of having your money stolen illegally. If you invest in Stocks you run the risk of having your money stolen legally. I no longer invest in stocks because every time I purchase or sell stocks, a good percentage of my money gets syphoned off. And I would not invest in BitCoin either because it is a bubble economy and too prone to theft.
The ProPublica application referenced does not use artificial intelligence at all. Instead is used a proprietary algorithm created by ProPublica to analyze a set of data designed by ProPublica engineers, where the data was collected by human beings. The algorithm and data collection created by humans is at fault for introducing gender and racial bias.
There is no artificial intelligence that collects it's own data based on choices the intelligence made, and then peforms an intellectual analysis to come to a conclusion
Just because a computer was used to produce a result doesn't mean you can call it artificial intellegence.
The company is forgetting the basic rule of business that "The customer is always right"
If a person pays good money to play the game, then they should be entitled to play the game the way they like. If the concern is how it unbalances competition in online play then restrict keyboard players to play against other keyboard players, or to play against players who are willing to use a controller against a keyboard.
It's ridiculous and arrogant for the company to assume they should be allowed to ban people from using different devices with their consoles.
Yup it was touch and go whether america would join at all. Just had to wait until the old world powers had bankrupted themselves and destroyed their industry. It all worked out very nicely for the new world order.
The boon of having all the brightest displaced people move to the USA certainly didn't hurt either. The US was at that time, and still is, the safest place to be if you're worried about either terrorism or a real fighting war. The US reaped the benefits of importing a whole lot of german engineers and scientists for decades. Too bad we lost our balls at some point and are afraid of immigrants now.
Sorry, but Canada is way safer than the US. Whether it is terror attacks or any other violent action, Canada is safer. And so are several other countries. If the US was so safe, why are they so scared of Muslims and Latino's?
The side affect of verifying we actually exist in a simulation, is to accept the fact that something created and is controlling the simulation. Therefore, religious people may be right in saying there is a god.
Politicians in the US want to keep control because it gives the US an advantage. The point of transferring control to ICANN is because countries do not like the US holding control and having that advantage. If the US takes their ball and goes home, the other countries have a plan to create their own system. Either the US will have to join the new system or get shut out of E-Commerce internationally. The reason they are considering a transfer to ICANN is because they will still have some influence.
So either share the ball, or the other kids will just buy their own ball and won't let the US play.
The only thing the programmer did is perform a currency exchange. Hardly illegal, banks perform it all the time.
If I go to a bank and change 1000.00 dollars Canadian to US currency and I tell the bank teller I'm going to buy stolen credit cards, then is the bank money laundering? No. The bank customer is obviously.
Same for this guy, the FBI is exchanging their money for bit coins, and they are saying they will use the bit coins for an illegal purpose. From my point of view the currency exchange performed by the programmer is not illegal, what the FBI plans to do with the Bit Coins is.
I don't understand how he can be charged for an illegal act that the FBI said they were going to commit.
I'm a Parent that had two terminally ill children. I attended a lot of grief counselling groups. What you find is that the people at these groups always want to find a reason for why their loved one died. They often want justice for the lost family member. That is why 80 percent of marriages don't usually survive the death of a child, because one parent tends to blame the other for the loss. This situation is not different, the mother wants to assign blame to someone/something as a way to come to terms with her loss. She is wrong and ignorant regarding the effects of WiFi, but she should be pitied.
And in unrelated news, 2 local programmers were swatted in a dawn raid that saw all their computers confiscated and accidentally broken. The two young men are being held indefinitely until the police are certain they can be cleared of all charges.
If the Class Action is successful, then other companies could be sued too. Samsung started accidentally inserting ads right into television broadcasts while a show was playing recently. They built their ad serving infrastructure right into the televisions they sold. Samsung and Lenovo are stealing internet bandwidth to show their self serving ads, and without users' knowledge, as well as compromising the security and privacy a user should expect to have.
I expect Lenovo will get a lot of support from corporations like Samsung in this class action suit because of the ramifications the outcome of the case has for the other corporations.
India claims their invention of messengers is a precursor to the modern internet, thus they invented it. Indignant Al Gore re-asserts his claim to inventing the internet.
When I think back to my University years, I think about the long tradition of cheating that has always existed.
I bet there is hardly a single professor, principal, or dean out there that has not cheated during their schooling. Consider plagiarism, the easiest form of cheating that can be detected; If you were take all the essay's and documents produced by any given educator, politician, or other professional, and had it analyzed, I would bet my last dollar you would find some evidence of plagiarism.
Can anyone in Slashdot claim they have never cheated during their education? Are you not relieved that your materials were not analyzed by cheat detection algorithms? I know I am. I was only interested in mathematics and computers and didn't care about all the mandatory classes I had to take. I admit I took a few shortcuts with those mandatory courses, and I mean a few, but I didn't totally abuse the system either.
I don't agree with cheating advocates who claim they have a right to cheat, but I accept that it happens and that all such people can go on to have productive careers. What I'm against is the hypocrites that cast the first stone and condemn cheating, when they successfully got away with it themselves when there was less oversight.
Hey Smug guy,
It turns out that two viruses can intermix their genetic material through a process called reassortment. When 2 viruses infect the same cell an antigenic shift can occur. The viruses can exchange genetic information which means a mutation of the virus can occur.
Obviously you did no research when providing your enlightened response. Maybe you need to get out of your mother's basement more often.
The FBI arrested the CEO of StealthGenie for providing software that can be used for stalking, and here you have a story where Police Agencies are providing stalking software for free.
Does anyone else find this hypocrisy hilarious?
So consider a plane with some passengers that have a cold or flu (happens all the time) and mix it with an Ebola carrier. Would this not make the plane a Petri dish for making an airborne variant of Ebola virus?
Just consider how easy it would be to share bodily fluids via the bathroom on a trans-Atlantic flight. Also consider how passengers are squished together tighter than sardines these days.
Can anyone advise why I should not be terrified to be on the same plane with an Ebola carrier regardless of assurances by medical officials that it is not that contagious.
You could argue that there are several legitmate uses for the software. IE Parents monitoring their children. Law Enforcement using the tools. Companies monitoring phones supplied to employees.
How is this software marketed? Is it strictly to stalkers? I kind of doubt it. It's just a technology that can be used for nefarious purposes.
You could just as easily argue that the government enables stalkers due their creation of roads and sidewalks that allow stalkers to follow their victims more easily. It is hard to see how they FBI can prove their case.
No country is going to buy weapons from a country that could disable them. It just would not happen.
And unless you are Iraqi, ISIS did not use the weapons against you. They did use the weapons against US Interests in the region though.
I don't understand how an overpriced tablet can lose money. Perhaps it is all the advertising that is causing the sinkhole. All I know is that for the price they charge, a keyboard should be included. No keyboard, no sale to me.

If you are ranking countries by freedom of speech, then the US is only ranked 41st in the world as ranked by the 2016 World Press Freedom Index.

Just add the label "GMO Created by Intelligent Design" and the whole Heart Land will buy the products like gene spliced hot cakes.

If the researchers fly 50 planes then they are not autonomous. Better to say 50 autonomous planes fly while researchers look on.
I taped it on my Betamax machine.

Way to educate me with your reasoned response. Why did you even bother to respond other than to feel smug.
