    Bruce Welch is bass guitarist with the Shadows, originally the backing group for Cliff Richard. Richard's and the Shadows' copyrights will start to expire when they hit the 50-year mark in 2009.

    Welch isn't dead and is an active, touring musician with a back catalog that still sells. What about artists that don't die prematurely on the shitter while pumped up on too many meds like Elvis? With medical advances, people are living longer than ever. Are you saying they should have the right to their copyrights taken away, and any furute royalties?

    Really? You know, while I have people I already know attached to me in Orkut, I really find it hard to see how you can sensibly make friends on that system.

    Yet for many, the opposite has occured. I started out 'friending' and being 'friended' by all former collegues. People I havent seen for years now. Yet I've made great friendships with people local to me where I have gone to dinners and parties. My old co workers? I never get the time of day from them anymore. What's so hard to believe?

    I run my own mail server and host my own domains, the oldest domain being 7 years old. I read my logs and many (not all) of my domains are dictionary attacked several times per hour, every hour of every day.

    Please don't tell me what not to post, and so you know Orkut isn't a pay site. Anyone who pays for an invitation to Orkut on eBay is a fool, when there are loads of people who will send the requisite invitation for just asking (yours truly included).

    I posted the only bit of information related to the orkut community group worth looking at, if you really want to know. There's nothing else.

    If it's bukkake you want, this ought to get you some.

    Is Washington Mutual's service so damn slow and so damn bad that I need to put my kids in a playpen and sit around drinking coffee??


    I've had accounts with them for 10 years. I actually found the service to be pretty good.

    That being said, this is one of the dumbest things I have heard of in regards to patents. Bad idea.

    To be accurate, Hotmail's spam folder is not called either a bulk or spam folder. It's called 'Junk E-Mail'. I agree with your semantic dissection of bulk vs spam (anyone who's spent time configuring an MTA, procmail recipes and spamassassin would as well I gather) but Hotmail calls it junk.

    This has nothing to do with freedom- it is a business decision. Microsoft does not have a "right" to advertise on LT, hence, no freedom is being denied.

    As the site founder, you think he has no leftover interest in how it's run and if they use pop ups or not? It's easy enough to enable pop-ups just to see what they are doing with the site. He may have been paid off, but when you see a nice simple, but well navigable side turned into the steaming pile of crapola it's turned into, it would bug me too. I would have stopped looking at slashdot years ago had they not allowed me to at least change my interface preferance to the bare minimum.

    This is totally off topic and feel free to mod this down (I already took a no karma bonus), but this is totally untrue. Pro-lifers do open pregnancy clinics that do indeed steer them away from abortion, but they are NOT Planned Parenthood clinics. That's a very important distinction.

    On topic: Go Dave- Linux Today started sucking when you left, I last looked about 4 months ago and it was a mess of a site. It sucks really bad.

    Well, come on- skipping several major releases and doing an OS upgrade rather than reinstall- 7.0 > 7.1 > 7.2 > 7.3 > 8.0 > 8.1 > 8.2 > 9.0 and he thought there would be no problems?? Dream on!

    The Thunderbird people should have made it so easy. The first time I upgraded, I missed the part about finding and replacing all the instances of your user folder name in prefs.js. Consequently I lost an afternoon trying to figure out what when wrong when the same action worked just fine for the browser. I should have done it on a weekend as I had to keep running to another computer to read and respond to customer email. I don't have a problem with it now since I fought that battle once but I'd be glad to have that time back if the process was exactly the same.
