They could just add a tax on cocktail napkins, sort of like the tax on recordable media. After all, isn't most good intellectual property created on the back of a napkin, in a bar, just before last call?
I'm not making this up. I heard a story on NPR yesterday about some British company saying they were going to patent potato chips (don't know if they meant American style or fish&chips style French fries).
Published a book called "The End of Work", a few years ago. I was too busy with work to read it then. Now that I am laid off, maybe I'll find the time.
Forget about antigravity boot, warp travel, and the like. I think the most important discovery is that those ultra cold particles they are shooting are probably responisble for that icy-cold spot in my bed. Seems to happen at about 3:00AM PST, which is probably about the time they get around to firing up the equipment in Grenoble, after their espresso and pastries.
Dark matter will be declared a terrorist tool. Anyone found harboring dark matter will be found guilty of aiding and abetting terrorists.
BTW, I've always wondered, is the matter that has been sucked into black holes considered is the total matter of the universe equation? It seems that everywhere they look, they find another black hole. Maybe there's alot of unaccounted matter out there.
When STNG first came out, I thought it would be cool to have a series showing what it would be like to be a rookie at the lowest rank on the Enterprise. Stuff like replicators that didn't always work right: "I wanted a Gornburger, not this Klingon worm crap.". Or low resolution holodecks. Or "Do I smell burning ham - or did Kirk singe himself again? Hey, what's with this red uniform?"
Well, they did the same thing with Smalltalk. It took M$FT at least 20 years to come up with a somewhat stable version. How long do you think it would take them to rip-off ^H^H^H^H^H^H^H develop a Plan 9-like OS?
(BTW, the do give credit to Inferno, an embedded little brother of Plan 9.)
Well, one difference is that in a real war, soldiers kill other soldiers. In this case, a handful of cowards killed hundreds, if not thousands, of civilians.
Open source on WinCE? Has your friend read the license agreement? Is that allowed? I'll bet he gets a visit from the M$FT legal team, especially now that you've posted it here. Don't you know they monitor this sight closely for license violations, new ideas to steal, and anti-Microsoft thought-crime?
Why can't M$FT be prosecuted for Denial of Service?
If I install, let's say FreeBSD, then I install Windows, it will wipe out the FreeBSd boot manager (without asking), thus denying me the FreeBSD service. Why does M$ think they own my boot track?
LetterWriter 3.0 - Different letters, many identical phrases, some from dead people and non-extant addresses.
LetterWriter 2.002K - All letters in a batch can be crosschecked for identical phrases.
LetterWriter ME - The version mentioned in the above message.
Name change to MSGrassRoots XP - Microsoft purchases a free letter writer service, which happens to run on FreeBSD. MS claims it will port to NT.
MSGR Ultimate - AI-generated letters. Problem is it requires Beowulf cluster of Linux machines.
MS Attorney General 1.0 - Sends letters to anyone who previously sent an anti-MS letter. Letters are identical, and say that the state police will soon visit to verify your software licenses.

Well, now that you asked, everyone at Bell labs supposedly uses it.

They met in September 1941. I guess that means we can't know where they met.

Why don't you guys ever have any articles on underclocking? Are underclockers really that bad? What are some of the advantages of underclocking?
- Underclock a 2.0GHz to 1.0Ghz, and you can throw away your CPU fan.
- Underclock to 500MHz and you can get rid of your case fan.
- Underclock to 4.77Mhz and you can run older versions of Fligh Simulator.
- Underclock to 4.0 MHz and you can pretend you are running a Z80.
- Underclock too 100KHz and you can actually watch your instructions exeecute.

Bill wiped his ass with the last one.
It's the same thing as confiscating fingernail clippers from little old ladies.
How are you supposed to write to your representative if their mail isn't getting delivered, due to the Anthrax scare?
It would be more devious to make a site look like it's swapping music, then let the RIAA do your DoSsing for you.
Looks like we now know what happened to Ernie. He rigged the election in Florida, and is now occupying the White House.
So I guess it's not really a "C compiler, is it?
(boolean expression) ? TRUE : FALSE;
I guess I missed it, was it a NG episode?

Actually, didn't M$FT invent "thunking" (switching between 16-bit and 32-bit mode)?
