Sorry, but the matrix had a few 'neato' effects, most notably the bullet-time sequences, but TPM was probably the most visually stunning movie in history. Say what you will about the movies problems, but to brush off ILM's groundbreaking work like this was a slap in the face
In the word of Gene Siskel (may he RIP); "I disagree Roger" Bullet-time WAS the most visually stunning FX of '99. Check out the DVDs making-of feature. They had something like 50~100 35 mm cameras circling the set to take those pictures. THAT had never been done before. CGI effects? Been there done that. It was stunning set design, but hardly groundbreaking stuff. ---
With Wrapster (see article) allowing quasi-anonymous distribution of anything, how long before viruses, DDOS zombies, BO2K and other trojans start invading... ? After an hour spent on OpenNap's chat channels, people have no clue of the implications. Some will gladly download EXEs and just run them, boom, like that. AS long as people stick to transferring media documents (JPG,ASF,RM) we're relatively safe. But mark my words, the first Wrapster-related massive infection will happen in the next weeks, if not days. This is like a huge clusterfuck where everyone's wearing masks but no rubbers. ---
It's silly. There are no legal 'Terms of service' that apply something you bought.
Perhaps they can deny maintenance, warranty or access to their ISP, but that's it If they want to retain control over their hardware, use this business model: ISP signup cost: $100 (Includes installation and free(*) I-opener terminal) Monthly fee: $29.99 (* includes $2 IO-pener rental fee) ---
Since encrypted emails practically guarantee authenticity of the sender and/or receiver, it becomes impossible to repudiate. However, sending everything in the clear using non-secure channel means you could possibly repudiate any email evidence: Just demonstrate how 1-anybody could have altered the contents 2-anybody could have used my PC to send that email 3- the plaintiff could have forged the message (obIANAL) ---
Is it playing in theatres around town? Post it here and spread the word!
On a side note, the Public Library in Ottawa, Canada has a LD copy of Fantasia; Free for residents, $35/y for membership. They also rent out LD players.... And macrovision didn't exist in the LD era (nudge nudge). ---
Well Hydro-Québec said the power failure was due to the auroras, but I think it's because they had a crappy power grid. Look what happend in Ice Storm '98... OTOH, pitch darkness is best for looking at auroras...;-) I remember the skies being RED -- apparently the rarest types of auroras. Weather here in Ottawa, ON is clear skies. We should be in for a treat! see ya outside. ---
Oops. Too late. Forget the movie... it should have been done 3-4 years ago. If there is a movie, it should come after the series is ended. And whatever happens -- NO LIVE ACTION! ---
And on which 'continent' do individuals live??? Say I have a web page concerning my life, ambitions etc. No one but my friends and relatives care about that information, but it's still out there on the net. EgoNet? MeNet?
It's an e-monstration by angry netizens... but WHO are they and WHAT are they picketing against? Just about as silly as an angry mob of people, all concealing their identity holding up protest signs with nothing written on them. ---
