Use as high explosives to bore through the tunnel. With the tens of millions of note 7's apparently they could built a tunnel linking south korea to china via north korea and have some to spare.
To me Tesla lost a great opportunity to make it 100% reduction, just turn autopilot off immediatly before any crash, then you would never have autopilot on... profit/sacarsm
You hit the nail in the head!
non-standard modules is a big no-no, motorola is also trying to get a modular phone going with moto z, but the modules are made by them, and only work it that phone, so they are hard to come by, expensive, and you cannot use them after an upgrade or if you change phones.
I was really excited by project ara, but then google for some reason decided that changing the screen and chipset would not be possible and then, for some reason, created modules that were pretty useless like a tic tac/pill holder (why???) and the modularity became a gimmick.
If we are doing car analogies, I think a closer one would be they selling a car with no stereo and using a different electrical interface, so only the one provided by the dealership, at a very very high margin, can be installed in place.
There is no benefit, is just people being ignorant and/or not being able to do math. Solar panels, even when installed in a great place at the recommended angles and directions take a pretty good amount of time to pay for themselves, because they are quite inefficient at converting solar radiation to electrical power, when you remove the optimum installation angle, the self cleaning that this angle provides, a thicker more opaque glass to be able to handle traffic going over it, the scratches and dirt that will build over time, and other factors, the overall efficiency drops dramatically and you end up with a solar array that is crap and a road that is horrible.
To me is like the food trends, like detox, for the ignorant they sound plausable and even great ideas, but to anyone in the field they are clearly a scam or a delusion from a crank.
They find out that installing those panel on the side of the road at an angle will greatly increase the power output, and that you don't need to keep cleaning the panels, and that with nothing to interrupt the sun light and effectively turn off sections of panels, they can also increase the power output, and that without heavy vehicules running over and screating the panels, they can have constant power output for the lifetime of the panel, and that you don't need to interrupt traffic everytime a panel gets damage and kill a whole section, and that.....
Not even that, the way people generally circumvent content protection is not filming the screen, is using HDMI splitters that remove the HDCP in the process and use a common HDMI video grabber card to record, it is surprisingly easy and not that expensive.
So they have reason to worry, but IMHO they should embrace it, stop spending huge amounts of money trying to create content protection schemes that simply don't work and make the life of people who actually spent money to consume more difficult, and accept that there is this cost of lost sales that will never go away.
If they want to spend money to try to get piracy (hate this term) to go down, do it on campaigns that shame people into paying for the shit they consume, and specially invest even more on make consume said shit dead f***ing easy.
I think it is more likely it will only have one door, and as they are probably developing an electric car, it will use a different standard that will only work with apple approved filling stations (imagine a YUGE magsafe connector), people will try to use dongles and adaptors just to discover that it needs a chip to initiate the power transfer.
The voltage will be 314.15 Vac at 271.82Hz, which will be pattented and nobody will be able to use unless apple gets a cut.
The car will be made entirely of magnesium to be lighter, even though it will catch fire with the smallest of accidents, the design will be minimalist, no stering wheel (it is autonmous remember) but when it gets lost or can't park because GPS signal is crappy Cook will say you are using it wrong.
And to top it off, it will use apple maps exclusively, so you will always be late as it will take you to the wrong place everytime.
KDE connect to me was very useful when my HTPC keyboard died, I used my Nexus 10 as a keyboard/remote control.
It also integrates with amarok so you can control the music, shows messages as notifications on the desktop and can even transfer files (although this works only sometimes with me).
Management is going awry at google, creating several projects than canning them all, getting products that people used, liked or even loved with a passion like Reader and Talk and just getting rid of it. Make moves to unify everything just to separate a few months after, make great hardware and just neglect it or change in a direction that consumers don't want (no vanilla Nexus, really google, really??)
Something is rotten at google, I think there is a lot of back stabbing and rug pulling that we are not seeing that is affecting the final products.
I'm really afraid that any day now they will touch Gmail and Search and will start a down spiral so steep that the crash will be inevitable.
I came here to say exactly this!
The fatal accident in Florida I can by the excuse of weird contrast situation for the camera in conjunction with speed above the limit and the truck starting crossing without proper distance to incoming traffic, but there is a video of the crash and it was in great light conditions, at low speed, with the other vehicle stopped (and with proper warning signals) and with enough space to all sides! That's exactly the kind of situation a assistance system should have avoided!!!
If I was driving with the autonomous system on, with attention to the traffic and my hand on the wheel I WOULDN'T have moved my hand, because I would be sure a system like this would avoid the other car, and I completely agree with the owner bashing Tesla because they advertised it as being the best thing since sliced bread and now are back paddling saying that it is his fault for not having his hands at the wheel... totally "hold it wrong" moment for Tesla here.
Looking at the video what seemed to have happened is that the autonomous system decided that keeping inside the lane was more important even if there was not enough space, or it just did a bad calculation and "thought" that it had clearance.
That's bullshit!
It is like saying that sitcoms are poisonous to friendships because it creates in people a expectation that all their friends should have great one-liners every 30 seconds or so, and people are getting depressed because there is no laugh track in real life to your own jokes.
Everyone seems to have their explanation, so I'll give mine.
It is certainly a combination of factors, but I think mainly is that people are marrying later, a LOT later.
For centuries people got married as soon as possible, an unmarried 20 year old woman was probably something rare, now a big segment of the population is marrying for the first time in their 30's, because education takes longer, economic power of middle and lower class has degraded greatly, so having enough money to get out of your parent house takes longer, and if you get someone, it is socially acceptable now to have sex before marriage (specially for women, for whom it was a much bigger taboo), and also less pressure from the parents themselves to get their kids married.
And I bet the survey considers someone having a sexual partner if they are married, even if they don't have sex for long periods of time.
This would be a great idea if it was on top of the road or by its side, doing this on a road is stupid!
Solar panel efficiency is not the greatest when pointing directly to the sun, with a high transparency and CLEAN glass on top of the silicon, being completely horizontal, with a opaque glass (because tires need to adhere to it, so it needs some texture), and that gets dirty with time will be just pointless.
And there are other factors that makes it even worse, the panel are connected in series, due to the low voltage generated, then in parallel, but if light on a panel is blocked the voltage of that block drops significantly and the series of panels practically drop off the circuit, and in a road you basically have this constantly!
To make it worse, the features this bozos said could be integrated in the panel are ludicrous, like LED signaling or deicing... they simply didn't do the math or a delusional, LEDs have a hard time beating the sun light in broad day light at a distance, even if directed to your eyes, and you know what is capable of using the sun light very efficiently to mark the ground? paint!
And don't get me started on deicing, do they have any idea how much energy it takes to melt ice? phase change consumes a immense amount of energy, and do that to millions of tons of ice is much more energy inefficient than just scoop it to the side of the road and wait for higher temperatures to melt it.
I'm confused by google, I really REALLY can't understand their messaging app strategy.
They had a great, easy, fast, and ubiquitous app with Gtalk, it had an open protocol, integrated with several third party software, had a simple and effecitive desktop client, then, out of nowhere they decided to do hangouts... ok, it added video and some other bells and whistles, but it was worse, it was separate from Gtalk in the begining and just pushed people away. Then they decided to stop supporting gtalk and tried to push everyone to hangouts, which actually pushed everyone to whatsapp, which had better features for mobile, then they starting messing up with hangouts to the point of mine stopping working on mobile network, I could only send or receive messages over wifi (to this day I don't know why), and now, out of nowhere again, they lunch not one, but two SEPARATE apps, that pretty much did the same as hangouts.... and literaly nobody is using, I couldn't even bother to download to check it out, because of what they did previously.
They shot themselves on the foot by messing with software that had a large userbase and instead of building up on it, completely missed the boat on groups, made the interface worse or created a parallel application thinking people would flock to it just because... google.
I think they missed the most important one... Pr0n.
I know the private/incognito mode is for that, but if you gone create default profiles, let's not be prude about it.
Oh, chromium these days is the worst on gentoo, it takes even longer than libreoffice, and a new version seems to be out every week, on my computer it is taking 1h20min to compile, firefox is a breeze at 15min.
sometimes I postpone building chromium, just because it hogs my machine for so long, and it is not a bad one, I have a core i7 3770K with 16GB of RAM.
I live in Rio and the Olympic games should not have been held here, for several reasons, but Zika is not one of them.
The summary is phrased in way that give the impression the guy is a medical doctor, when actually he has a doctorate in law, and although he writes for the health review, he doesn't have a medical research background.
Zika has already spread pretty much to everywhere that has the mosquito (aedes aegypt and others) and the olympics will not cause much of an impact, specially because it will happen in the winter, when the mosquito borne diseases almost disappear, because the mosquito population drops sharply due to the smaller amount of rain. And by the way, Rio is NOT the place with the highest amount of cases of any state, of either Zika or microcephaly.
Further more, Zika is a very mild infection for the great majority of people infected, with most (~80%) not even being symptomatic, and did not grabbed the headlines until Brazilian health and safety authorities connected the increase of microcephaly cases to Zika infections.
The only risk for the guests is if they are women, pregnant or planning to get pregnant at the times of the games, or if they fuck everything that moves (in that case, call me ^-^) and the risk of getting pregnant can be easily avoided by either not coming (as suggested) or by simply using anti-conceptional methods.
according to this page solar MWH in UK are in the 125 to 180 pounds range, and that Hinkley Point C MWH price would be sold at 92.5 pounds, but to me something seams fishy.
Another thing, at this price point, and assuming 100% availabily throughtout the year, the plant would earn about 2.5billion pounds a year, so it would take at least 14 year to get a return on investment, not taking into account fuel and other operational costs, pretty bad IMHO.
As I said on the red site, I still think solar or wind with a battery (molten salt or other technology) would still be cheaper and with as much availabily, and maybe greater power output.
Use as high explosives to bore through the tunnel. With the tens of millions of note 7's apparently they could built a tunnel linking south korea to china via north korea and have some to spare.

Exactly! Does it have chromecast support? no? sorry Bezos...
Or we could just change the tires on the cars to have one side with a small radius e the other side with a big radius!
There is no benefit, is just people being ignorant and/or not being able to do math. At least the blender joke "I'll do my own self-driving car fleet test with black jack and hookers" would be funnier.
Solar panel roads are just plain stupid.
Does this work with humans? err... asking for a friend.

You may scape the NSA but you will not scape the prying eyes of your neighbor.
