A friend of mine griped that she couldn't find poutine. I asked where has SHE been. It is in practically all the hamburder joints in BC. I've found it in. McDonalds A&W Harvey's New York Fries.
Might even be in Burger King though it has been a while since I've been there.
I have just gone through patching our NT4 workstation boxes. (we have some mission critical software which only runs under NT) There is one patch which is part of of the critical patch lists that would 90% of the time render the machines unbootable. I have two machines that I have to reinstall from scratch because I wasn't able to recover them.
It took me a while to isolate the specific patch which blew up the machine.
Also MS Project 2000 installed on a windows NT 4 workstation would blow the machine up about 50% of the time.
I was at this site a few days ago. The day after I was at it a friend tried to get to it. It was dead then. I suspect it recovered just long enough to get slashdotted.
For more information about the phones and the technology behind it check out the Press Release made by the company doing the electronics behind the phone.
My mother worked in an insurance firm as a book keeper. The equipment there was a little tempermental. The dot matrix printer was especially tempermental. One day the pay roll clerk sent a print job through.
The machine started printing then stopped. They couldn't find anything wrong with it so she started calling it names. My mother joking said "see now you've hurt its feelings. You have to apologize to it." Going with the joke the clerk apologized to the printer.
My friend worked in a similar office. (unfortunately, he isn't in right now otherwise I would get the name of the machine. Something starting with an S. It had redundant EVERYTHING on it.) Not only did he have engineers show up but every now and then a FEDX would arrive with a new part for the machine. They didn't even know it was down. Sure enough they would take the part out back and there would be an error message for the affected part. This thing called home all the time.
A very cool box. They don't make them like that any more.
A friend of mine was fairly cracker jack in mechanical engineering. During his final year labs he loaned his lab report to a friend.
3 years later he is TAing the same course. He gets a report that looks awfully familiar. He grabs his finished lab report and realizes that the student had copied his report from 3 years ago.
Needless to say the student did not pass that lab.

There is always turning it off until you absolutely need it and then turning it on long enough to talk. My phone is off when driving anyway. I don't need the distraction.
In the article they say We purchased the Linux-Mandrake 7.2 Complete version from a computer
store.
Does anyone know if that is a difference between the downloadable ISO images and the "Complete" version?
Using the downloadable ISO and an expert install I installed Apache straight from the initial setup. I also noticed that the apache rpms are available under
Mandrake/RPMS on the install CD (not the supplimental CD)
I was hoping someone would say this. When people start learning that they can't make backups anymore they will buy equipment elsewhere. It happened to copy protected software it can happen to hardware.
And it will happen much faster this time because they will be trying to go from no copy protection to full protection. With software they more or less started out copy protected.

A pitty you've missed BOTCON. This year we had the first full screen movie showing since 1985.
Well it isn't completely unheard of in North America. I just purchased a new Chrysler Cavalier LS 2000. The more expensive radio (the one with CD and tape player) has RDS.
Unfortunately, I couldn't hold out for it. The reason I was getting a new car was because the old one was rear ended and written off. I couldn't wait the 6-8 weeks for the car I wanted to ship from the factory.
Not everyone can efile. I know that under last years rules I couldn't. (Beleive me I tried but all my inquiries came up with you should have received instructions in you packet if you are allowed to efile. So all I got were the stickers and then envelope. The rest I had to print out.) I would like to see them open the rules up a bit so I could efile. The program I use for taxes is capable...
A friend of mine has his web cam aimed out of his window towards one of the local bridges. Shortly after he put it up he started getting once an hour on the hour hits from the local weather office. His curiosity finally lead to calling them to find out what was going on. They were using his web cam to suppliment their weather data.
Now he tilts the camera up a bit to catch more of the sky for them. I don't know how much data a web cam can provide on a fast moving storm but I wouldn't completely rule it out.
The interesting thing is it is now out on DVD. Chapters (Canadian Bookstore) had it available on their web site a few months back.

Oh I fully intend to check out vmware when I get a new computer. I was going to get it for the current one but I was told it was a little too under powered to run vmware at a tolerable level. (Current computer is a Pentium [no pro, II or III just the plain original]) 166. However, I still may need to dual boot if vmware doesn't work as expected.
The new computer will be better suited for multi-media applications. The Pentium should make a great fileserver.
Thanks for the suggestion though. The advice is appreciated.
I've been drooling over the possibility of a new computer for a while but I hadn't decided what type of video card to get or wether to stick to CDrom or try DVD. (The computer would dual boot between Linux and NT. There is still one program I'm stuck running on NT.)
Now I'm glad I've waited a bit. I can wait a bit more for prices to come down and by that time this board should be released.
My parents told me that my desire to do a Copmp Sci course at university was due to the fact that I was a "tomboy" and I would grow out of it. (I haven't yet) And my "A" level comp-sci teacher discouraged girls from taking his class as we "would not follow through and get jobs in the industry."
My sympathies on the Comp-sci teacher. I had a very similar experience in high school. I had an interview with the guidance counselor to change my course load. (I wanted to drop band in 10th grade to make room for calculus in 12th)
I was told my course load was too heavy on the sciences and maths and I needed band to "take a break" from all of that hard work. (I didn't know it was suppose to be hard.:) He even suggested that I drop a science and take "art".
Fortunately, my parents supported me and didn't care if I was a tom boy. They only cared that I prepared my education to get a good job in something I enjoyed. If I had listened to that counselor I would have been short several courses I needed to enter engineering. As it was Biology was the only course I didn't use.
Now I am working as a programmer/sysadmin/power quality expert etc. (little bit of everything) and quite happy at it.

It has finally migrated past Quebec
This change has a tendance to kill a lot of spam blocking software which rely on a failure message if a domain is not found to junk bogus emails.
You would be surprised.

The show is Full Metal Challenge.
They take teams from around the world and give them 30 days to build the world's best vehicle. (They also have a budget but I forget what it is)
The show tests the vehicles that come in and give a description of the build as well as some explaination for the design choices.

BTW this is in BC Canada.
- It wasn't a chat room
- It was an email suggesting a NEW product from the company.
Excuse me.... But wouldn't it be smart to ENCOURAGE people to talk about your product / line of books? Now what they will talk about instead is the stupidity of their lawyers.
