This needs to be posted all over every time a Facebook article makes the rounds. How folks don't understand that the Zucc does NOT have their users (the product) best interests at heart is beyond me..... and these kind of shenanigans is exactly why I do not have a Facebook account, and never will. I'm sure they have a shadow on me, and I'd love to know a way to (for lack of a better term) FOIA that info from them.
Let's slow everyone down so it will stop piracy!!!
Give me a break. Even when I had a lowly 2400 baud modem I'd just dial up, queue my downloads, and let it run "in batch" if you will overnight. You can't stop me if I really, really want that content, don't want to pay for it, and it is available from the local pirate-area.
Perhaps make content that is good enough that I want to actually BUY? What a novel idea!
100% this. If your photos are "public" (without having to authenticate to whatever $social_media site you put them on, you should have no expectation of privacy. Like the other posters below said, I try very hard to guard where my photos are taken and if they are specifically ask what is going to be done with them.
I actually have said this before. Pick your $dreaded_disease and it would not surprise me in the slightest if 100% proof surfaced that $some_evil_company had the cure for ages, but stuffed in a safe somewhere in lieu of just putting people on maintenance. I'm not saying I believe this, but it wouldn't shock me if someone showed me proof that it were true.
My other thought is though, as the saying goes, three people can keep a secret if two are dead. How could someone of good conscience keep a cure for say some type of cancer secret? Probably getting paid lots of money to keep quiet, that or threat of death.
The AC was downvoted, but I have seen this happen at $work. Default printers being different, document initially created with a different version of Office...this mangles the document. My usual fix is to open the document in LibreOffice, fix it, save it as a.doc(x) or whatever MS format is needed, and then re-open in MS Office. Works 99% of the time.
Yep. Lawyer is doing word salad. One those "could have maybe perhaps" cases that give lawyers a bad name.
Apple will probably (pardon the pun) swat him with a bunch of cash to go away. They (Apple) could probably crush him with their army of lawyers but a settlement is quicker and simpler than a big PR mud-fest.
At $work we are also looking into making MS "less relevant". i.e. searching out ways to replace most of the servers "in the back" so we're not so tied to Microsoft's whims and shenanigans. My holy grail would be to get rid of Microsoft entirely, but I'm not sure I'm ready to fall on that sword.
This way, since our main line of business application would no longer be coupled to Microsoft, it would buy us time to move to Windows 10 on our terms, not MS's. It would also then give us time to investigate desktop alternatives, as the new back-end system would be a hybrid of browser and "green screen" if you will.
What happens if you never connect it, or just connect it long enough for a firmware update then firewall it off so it may be "on" the local network, but cannot get to the public Internet?
100% agree with you. I have known relatives that have had to spend down all their assets to stay in a "memory care" unit when they could no longer be legitimately safe at home. To me, it's total bullshit. If this happens to me, give me something laced with something else and let me go to sleep permanently. Also, a underground safe to hide cash, as well as a dead mans switch for folks to find it when I'm gone.
It's horrible to see everything you've worked for just flushed down the toilet for you to "just exist". Horrible way to live.
Here's hoping there's a cure. Or even a "stop" - i.e. if you start experiencing symptoms, get this treatment and it stops the disease in its tracks. Reversal would be a holy grail but I'm not holding my breath.
"We're sorry." (No, we're only sorry we got caught)
and
"We'll try to do better." (No, we'll try hide it better in order to not get caught next time)

Everything in moderation; nothing in excess.
Everything is going to kill you nowadays, might as well enjoy it.

Perhaps it will stay down?
The only winning move is not to play. (and not use Facebook)
Careful with that generalization there bud.
I am over 40, and started with VT220's, Apple //'s, and DOS.
PGP was a thing in the DOS days.

Heh. You're just NOW figuring this out?
I knew it from the start. Never had a Facebook, never will.

With that much scooter "turnaround" that just seems ... wasteful.

"We take your security and privacy seriously."
Is a synonym/lawyer speak for:
"We done fucked up. Please don't sue us."

Why in all that is holy would you want to pollute a Pi3 with Windows, even worse the tinker toy that is Windows 10?

Well, monopolies are gonna monopoly. It's hard to teach an old Microsoft dog new tricks. Nadella better reign this guy in.....
Yep. ... and I'll purchase it if needed from one of those online pharmacies for pennies on the dollar.
One can only dream.....
I wish that were the case!

Yeah, fuck you.
Or perhaps you are trolling like the little anonymous prick you are?
So, let's just say he has mental illness.
Going to prison and not being treated correctly for this mental illness is going to solve the problem, how?
What happens if you never connect it, or just connect it long enough for a firmware update then firewall it off so it may be "on" the local network, but cannot get to the public Internet?
I assume they don't make money in that case?
Wow. 5th grade called. They want their "digs" back.
What if I use Genie's AlladinConnect, you insensitive clod? Am I shut out of this? :)

I'm going to undo all my moderation to post this.
