Boot the computer with a Linux LiveCD and copy the files off to a usb drive or send them by email.
I'm not looking forward to the next reboot, I can tell ya. Holding off on that. I went ahead and installed the recovery console, and put the instructions on c:\ as a preemptive measure.
(honestly, without proper anonymous closures, I feel crippled as a programmer... as a tool for building clean, reusable, modular code, they're simply invaluable)
Feel like elaborating on that? I've been doing programming on the side for years, with most of the common languages, and I don't even know what that means.... (/grin)
The file picker is not ugly per se... rather I think you mean that it is a poor design. That may be true, but I suspect it has little to do with the underlying toolkit.
I don't think most people would object to the things you mention, they are pretty good actually. The problem comes where the police are tracking the movements of innocent people for no good reason.
If they had said, "all non-matching data is dumped as it is cleared," I would feel differently.
The networking effects of the Wintel PC are much stronger and deeper than the consumer electronics markets. That's why a new PC platform won't be popular anytime soon--no matter how good it is.
It was a smart move for Apple to shift its efforts to areas where its expertise can be better appreciated. All you have to do is check the price of AAPL over the last 5 years.
Whatchoo talkin'bout Willis? Apple is making money hand over fist and won't be going out of business even if the iphone is a total flop, which it wont be.
Sorry to hear that.

It's a shame it only seems to burn their wings off, I was hoping for complete flaming annihilation.
Not this time. Not with 30 billion cash in the bank.
I think I finally understand the Disney corporation, thanks.
Also, I'm hoping with the Pixar guys a the helm, we'll see higher quality product.
I'd be interested in this euro Windows 7 with no trace of IE ... where can I get it?

Other than some poor choices for string formatting, I don't find that python example particularly hard to follow.
The perl above seems to be as streamlined as possible, nice to know it can be done.
Double-click the tab bar and get a new one ... that is the best way. Ctrl-T is the second. ;)

I took a precursor with me a few years back. Very light, with builtin webcam and dvd burner. Nothing else is even close at this size.
Honorable mention: Mac air, but no optical drive!

Too bad? You mean thank god!
Now, everyone go back to watching Turista!
Sure, I just think Apple could have been smoother here ...
They shoulda dropped the price $100 this time, then another $100 in November.
This would have given them two news events for the price of one, and spread the pain a bit to make it easier for the most loyal customers to take.
Oh? Do tell. I had a big problem with expat libs lately in gentoo, what was the cause? do you have a link handy?
